  1. The NWCA thing from last year is an error and is on me. I wrote that section - I handle the Coaches Poll - and when I was writing it, I meant to include a modern-era time descriptor, since the Iowa and Oklahoma State (one of them) streaks ended in 1999 and 2011, while the other Oklahoma State streak is from 1932. I've since updated that post from last year to avoid the issue arising again with something that was missing proper context. I've since written (multiple times, I believe) what the record is in NWCA poll releases. The "Division I" record is 76 (broken in 1951). The NCAA record is 77 (St. Cloud State, broken in 2022 one match after they set a new record). Since Oklahoma State's 76 was in an era prior to Divisions, I call that "major college" since it's a current Division I institution in an era that pre-dated even the college division. The modern era record would be 70. The all-time "D1" record is 76. The NCAA record is 77. Here's the working list (since that article was written in the midst of Grand View's win streak) https://almanac.mattalkonline.com/top-college-dual-meet-win-streaks/

  8. Maybe Sealey has already peaked? Maybe after winning his WC he lost motivation? I've seen tons of kids who were unstoppable in HS grind to a complete stop in college. Once they hit a room where they aren't king and are getting hammered every day they lose motivation and get HEW. I can't imagine a tougher room than PSU has right now.

  9. I contend it's a weight issue more than anything for Joe. He took down Marinelli twice at the BF lost 11-6 at 163.4. He wrestled last year at 165 lost 2-2 to Ferrari in UTB in the ironman finals I will add Ferrari beat him soundly at who's 1 a few months prior. I am guessing 157 is because of there being no shot he sees the lineup at 165 for at least two more years but if it's a hard cut for him I doubt he is getting as much as he should out of practice on top of the in-match issues that honestly would probably be normal for a non-PSU true freshman at this point. At the end of the day, I did not see how he fit into this lineup before I saw him wrestle this season and this probably only strengthened that sentiment.

  10. On the whole I thought Ruth was not engaging and you have to defer to the ref on the mat. To nit-pick, though, I thought that two of the calls were arguably harsh. One was on the bottom, this is one I've seen a lot recently, the bottom man is flat, top has a lot of pressure on with a leg basically tied up and is parallel, not really sure what the bottom guy can do in that parallel position. The other was the second to last stalling, Ruth escaped very near the edge and then wasn't able to circle back to the middle. Not going to cry a river for Ruth, though, he wasn't really wrestling.

  11. That is a hilariously bad take. Starocci had four takedowns against a guy on rollerskates. What about four takedowns is "without really trying to score"? What is Ruth supposed to do? Try to score. He was the only one not attempting to score.

  12. Meh. Starocci engaged his classic underhook, drive forward, feign knee pick even though it's no where close and earn the stall. He was pushing without really trying to score. Other than not get underhooked, I don't really know what Ruth is supposed to do. He seemed to be giving relative effort to circle, but couldn't out-circle Starocci's pushing. Regardless, it wasn't competitive.

  13. I just did a speed run of the ASU/Oklahoma match. Good lord, ASU is a shell of it's former self. It is really starting to feel like the whole program is going down the drain. Just dead in the water, no momentum, and it feels like something bigger than a head coaching issue. How long do we think before we find Zeke heading up a program with more institutional support? He's never been one to stick around a stagnant or unsupportive institution. And now that his only athlete of any real reputation has jumped ship, it feels like it's time for some turnover.

  15. I didn’t marry a liberal woman. I work in IT, very left dominated, but we really never ever discuss politics. That is a big no no in my field. I just don’t know. Is this true? If so, can their husbands do anything to help them? Maybe shovel the snow or change the oil in the car. I really am not sure here. Open the hard to open jars? Liberal women the 'least happy and loneliest' in America, according to a new survey New evidence in the 2024 American Family Survey, found that 37 percent of conservative women from the ages of 18-40 reported being satisfied with their life. Only 12 percent of liberal women in the same group said they felt the same way, while 28 percent of moderate said they were satisfied. https://nypost.com/2025/02/14/lifestyle/new-poll-shows-liberal-women-the-most-unhappy-lonely/ https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14398225/amp/liberal-woman-happy-lonely-america-survey.html There are more articles but they get redundant pretty quick.

  24. Iif you want a laugh read the HVI (PSU) and HR (Iowa) threads about the PSU/Iowa dual. Both fan bases think all the stalls on their guy was the reason Rivera should never ref again. Oh and he didn't call any stalls on the other guy.

  30. I would definitely say young guns would be the next best bet but PA vs Wisconsin so I am giving the edge to Askren given the state depth. KD has Jayden James and PJ duke which is a smaller sample but they could both be generational I think. Seabolt puts out a ton of high level high school guys but they have not had the college results yet to my knowledge.

  32. Mitchell,Keegan,Sinclair all came up in AWA as kids Im not as sure about the Mirasolas,Parker,Millard etc. All of them were very good high school wrestlers but I believe the Mirasolas,Sinclair,Parker,Keegan were the only top 25 big borders scoles and Millard may have been close? @Husker_Du would no for sure. I know that Ben's plan is to not make these kids the best junior high or even high school wrestlers, he wants them to be able to continue to improve into college and they all seem to be doing that. Mitchell took 7th at super 32 his senior year and then in the same 12months beat haines and got a silver at junior worlds. Millard beating Chittum would have been nowhere on my radar, he was good but he took a lot of losses this last year.

  35. I was only referring to the final stall call, where Starocci was not looking to score, but actually looking to stall Ruth out. Starocci knew the match situation and pushed, and took "activity" shots to earn the final stall warning without truly attempting to score. Otherwise, he probably would have scored another takedown like he had shown the ability to do all match. However, I disagree that Ruth was on roller-skates, unless you want to agree that Carter made him wear them. He just couldn't handle Starocci's forward pressure, but I felt like he at least attempted to hold some ground, he just was unable. It's hard to look to score when getting pushed backwards and being dominated in the hand fight. When Carter wants to take ground and push, no one has shown an ability to stop him. This is the tactic he used for the majority of the match against Keckeisen, and Keck was pushed around the mat as well. I find it hard to fault Ruth's effort in that last sequence. I didn't say the call was wrong, but I don't know what else Ruth was supposed to do other than have the ability to not cede ground.

  40. You don't think Cael and staff would help tailor his training in a more productive manner? There are other guys on the roster that he could go with where I'd assume he'd find reasonable success, and at least have enough self-belief that he has the ability to score on a relatively unproven Brandon Cannon. Cael has also spoken highly of Sealey's progress multiple times when asked throughout the season.. I think if anything Cael would have responded with something along the lines of "you know, he's tough and talented, but we have a lot of really accomplished guys in the room and he's adjusting to a new level of wrestling." We're talking about the best coaching staff in the country.. I don't think they're letting Sealey be fodder at the cost of his development.

  41. This is why losses are over-valued and wins are undervalued in the current seeding criteria. The fact that this type of plan could even exist is a disgrace to the integrity of college wrestling. Guys should have more to gain from wrestling tough opponents than from ducking them.
