From ESPN: The NCAA issued a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately." If a player can negotiate an NIL at another school, unenroll from school, then enroll at the new school providing NIL, why do we have the portal? Why do we have certain dates athletes have to be in the portal? Other than add/drop dates for classes and being eligible (which can up to a month after the semester begins), sounds like the portal is more of "guidelines" than actual "rules'3 points

Yeah I agree. They had a couple trophy teams that were pretty good, but losing Sunkist (and funding) and Zahid were huge like you mentioned. Rebuilding the RTC is a big factor. If Ysaguirre, McClane and Larkin were in the lineup it would help a lot. It always seems to be a big mystery as to what is going on, but that's not uncommon in college wrestling. You may be right that they need a reset.2 points

His dad founded and coaches at Valiant Prep in Phoenix. He is not listed as a coach at Artreus, but he is probably involved in some capacity. The coaches are basically the ASU coaches and it's held at ASU. Kaleb wrestles for Artreus along with ASU guys like Figs, Schultz, etc. It would be hard to pry them away from ASU with Larkin's history, Valiant being just down the road, etc. But at the same token, is it the best place to reach their goals? Time will tell.2 points

He gets a lot of stick over the Burwikk transfer, but The Athletic has a story about Wisconsin refusing to put a football players' name in the transfer portal even though he requested, and the rules say they have too. So he just withdrew from Wisconsin and enrolled at Miami. Wisconsin has not commented, but the player's lawyer, an adjunct professor of NIL at Miami's law school, has some fun quotes: "I still to this day don’t quite understand what Wisconsin believes or understands its position to be,” Heitner said. “I gathered in the process that it didn’t even seem like they were fully aware of what they were relying upon to not put the player in the portal. I don’t know what the connect or disconnect is between the school and the collective. “It seemed like there was a lot of misinformation and I’m not confident that the school and or the Big Ten appreciates the myriad holes in the agreement that was executed, which we don’t believe is valid or binding.” Heitner said Lucas signed a memorandum of understanding with Wisconsin contingent on approval of the House vs. NCAA settlement, which has yet to receive final approval, as well as him attending classes there no later than spring 2025. He also noted Wisconsin had not paid Lucas any money so Lucas did not owe the school any reimbursement." And: “I would have never expected Wisconsin to maintain its completely irresponsible position throughout,” Heitner said. “So in a normal circumstance I would say I’m convinced that they understand the worst possible thing that they could do for their reputation would be to try to escalate this. But they haven’t used logic from the start, so I don’t know what they will do.”2 points

To be fair, he pretty much called the only way Van Dee could score - through exchanges. He hit a seven-point move in the first period and put Davis in a chase position the rest of the match. He just did it on a counter instead of a bad shot.2 points

The baseline defense for Penn State is insane. Watch Haines and Starocci and the way they just kill a pretty good shot, then move through their process of countering it and scoring. They each have their slight variations but the basics are the same. You can have your hands locked, leg pulled in, and they don’t panic. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

They've actually finished in the top ten in 2012, 2013, and 2016. From 2012-2018 their worst finish was 13th, so over a seven year stretch I would say they were a top 10 threat, even though they only accomplished the feat three times. Their line-up in 2012 was really solid. Four AAs and two R12s. 125 - Delgado (7th) 133 - BJ Futrell (6th) 141 - Fanta (NQ) 149 - Terrazas (R16) 157 - No qualifier 165 - Conrad Polz (8th) 174 - Jordan Blanton (4th) 184 - Tony Dallago (R12) 197 - Mario Gonzalez (7 seed R12) 285 - No qualifier1 point

WKN, you're going thru a lot mental gymnastics to defend utterly idiotic, nonsensical democrats who voted (several times) in an insane manner. the only thing you're right on is that there is, in fact, laws already on the books and every time they were broken or unenforced it was by a democrat admin, official or organization. if Virginia Tech is out of compliance and has too many Men's athletes compared to Women, they don't receive federal or state aid. but cities and states that break federal law suffer no penalties. withhold government funding for breaking immigration laws and watch how quickly these virtue signaling pigs fall in line.1 point

Surprised to see Vasquez gassed - he moved up a weight so it shouldn't be a weight issue. He could still AA, but he is on the outside looking in. He doesn't seemed to have developed as well as I thought he would. Same with Chlebove. He seemed to make jumps last season and has looked a little flat. Schultz just seems like he is done. Ruiz is a nice spark for th team. He has looked pretty decent this season. On top of Larkin, where have Ysaguirre, McClane and Manville been?1 point

I agree. And I believe I read that the “letter scene” was real and occurred after he placed 7th as a junior, so almost seems like the truth would have been a better story, being distraught from going backwards but then coming back to win, vs just beating one guy you lost to the year before.1 point

In all honesty, who even reads articles about wrestling? Most people get their wrestling news from social media, and the main content they consume other than actual matches is videos. The FloFilms and a lot of Flo’s video content is really good (just not Pyle’s monologues).1 point

This is what I am talking about. Your original post was about outrage. "Every single D voted against deporting illegal immigrants that have been convicted of sex crimes...seriously WTF??? How in the heck is this even a partisan issue??" And it was factually incorrect on several points. Every single D did not vote against the proposed law. No D that voted against the proposed law voted against deporting illegals that commit sex crimes, because there is already a law on the books that handles that exact situation. This was pointed out in the article that you posted and I quoted. But instead of owning your errors you want to double down. And then you, and others want to distract by pretending that the existing law is not being enforced. But, of course it is. With that out of the way, yes, I think illegals who commit sex crimes should be deported. What's more, I am very glad that there is already a law to handle that very situation. And I am grateful that the law is being enforced. No, I do not think all illegals should be deported. And if you do, then be prepared to deal with the inflation that so many here thought was such a problem before the election.1 point

That is all correct. I immeadiately fact checked myself and edited my post but I appreciate you presenting the information. Also flo has a series on Valiant which is a fun watch called "Eloy Boys". https://thehill.com/homenews/media/5092006-cnn-defamation-lawsuit-zachary-young-navy-veteran/ Jury finds CNN defamed Navy veteran with segment on Afghan refugees by Dominick Mastrangelo - 01/17/25 1:25 PM ET A jury in Florida on Friday found that CNN defamed a Navy veteran with a report on his business that aired in 2021 and awarded him $5 million damages. Punitive damages will be decided by later today the rest of the article says. Oh but wait!!!! https://www.yahoo.com/news/cnn-found-liable-defaming-u-173150968.html (Reuters) -CNN reached a settlement on Friday with a U.S. Navy veteran who helped evacuate people from Afghanistan after the U.S. military withdrew from the country in 2021, a judge said on Friday, hours after a jury found the TV news outlet liable for defaming him. The six-person jury decided CNN had to pay damages totaling $5 million. The settlement will avert a second phase of the trial that would have determined any punitive damages. CNN cried UNCLE. I was not aware that a settlement could be reached after a jury verdict is reached. CNN was in a very bad place if they went this route. They screwed up. They thought they were able to do and say whatever they wanted. And they were wrong. This shoudl be a huge cudgel to other "news" entities to be truthful and not opinionated. mspart1 point

That's a legit question.... can they progress and reach their goals at ASU? Chlebove, Vasquez and Schultz all seemed to have taken a step. back. Ruiz has looked good and Figs can be a wild card. Recruiting has been down and it doesn't help that they had a major de-commitment.1 point

Flo is Flo in name only. I’d venture easy 50% of the people who read Flo do it out of reflex remembering when Flo used to legitimately rewrite the playbook for wrestling coverage every month. They invest maybe 10% of the effort they used to. It is just a corporate click and subscription hunting webpage anymore. Maybe the Flo platform really breaks ground in other sports, but Flowrestling specifically is a cold stinky skeleton of what it used to be.1 point

RADIUS (2017) Here I continue my journey through the 100 best free movies on YouTube according to Rotten Tomatoes. Radius is #66 in the top 100, and it is supposed to be a Sci-Fi thriller that is also part mystery. It has a 93% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The synopsis provides: "When he wakes up after a car accident and doesn't have a memory, a man makes his way into town to look for help. As he heads to town to look for help, he discovers dead bodies that have strange pale eyes." This movie was awful stinky garbage trash. The Science Fiction was stupid and pointless except as a plot device for a cringe plot. The acting was horrible. The pace was a crawl, and the special effects were worse than or equal to the special effects that I personally apply to a two-minute video about ILLINI heavyweight wrestler Luke Luffman. The only mystery offered by this movie is how the **** it received a positive recommendation from 93% of the film critics who reviewed it. I was so stunned by the awfulness of it — I felt so scammed by it — that I was determined to solve this mystery. I believe that I did. The first clue was in the movie credits. As they roll by, you learn that the movie was made in Canada by Canadians who worked for a Canadian production company. It was filmed entirely in Canada. Moreover, it received a special tax exemption from the Canadian government. The second and final clue came from the critics who reviewed the movie. You actually have to dig a little deeper than the reviews themselves. You see, Canadians look a lot like us, they sound and write like us, but they are not us. They are Canadian. Never forget that. To solve the mystery, you have to go beyond the reviews and google the names of the critics. Approximately 80% of them are citizens of Canada or the UK, which is what I call "Stuck up Canada." The American critics who recommended this pig slop were from Minnesota and Oregon, which are like mini-Canadas without the hockey and good manners. It's sad that these folks would destroy their credibility because of geography, I write, as a writer for the ILLINI Wrestling Blog & Forum & Beyond Plus, but that's the world we live in. My hypocrisy is fine, yours, when it affects me in a negative way, is the worst thing ever!1 point

They have one of the GOATS, Andy Hamilton. Kyle Klingman’s resume also speaks for itself - so from a position of “professional” writers, they have two of the best the sport has. Andy coordinates a network of writers who do the “insider” stories they feature on a number of programs. Guys like Jim Carlson and Travis Johnson have bonafide careers in journalism, others like Brian Reinhardt are former SIDs. There’s also some guys like Nick Corey and Dylan Guenther who have written for different spots, usually centered around a certain region or school. The insider stories are consistent and good reads. Engagement headlines for the social juice is just part of the world now - like most places - there’s always going to be a stinker of a headline here and there.1 point

Im not sure why I feel like Van dee gets this one against Davis. I like that he kind of forces exchanges to happen. A lot of guys allow Davis to dictate where the match goes. Now if he can't create good opportunities against Davis which is possible it could lead to bad shot entries and easy scores for Davis but I thought Van dee looked really good against Farber and Wells in his last two and does have the win over Ragusin who when healthy I would probably pick over Davis.1 point

I think the situation is fluid. As the NCAA accrues loses in the courts they are hesitant to enforce any of their rules that affect eligibility. They are also more inclined than ever to grant additional eligibility. For that reason, I hesitate to rely on precedence when trying to figure out what the NCAA will do now, other than to say they are far more likely to grant extra years now than at any time in the past, even the very recent past - like last year.1 point
