College wrestling has issues and these two burn my butt! I travelled to Nashville to watch the duals and spent good money for tickets, gas and lodging. The hosts decided that programs were not needed for this event. The friend I was with didn't have a working knowledge of the teams or the athletes and had no way to get a handle on the competitors or what the expectations should be. Piss poor! Especially for the cost of the tix! 1/2 of the gym did not have the ability to see the team score! The only score boards with the team score faced only 1/2 of the gym. I wrote the folks at Journeyman about these issues and their answer was to follow along on Tournaflex.com. What a crock! Wrestling is its own worst enemy!3 points

Not a bad way to start life - a Stanford undergrad degree - a graduate degree from another school, a couple hundred thousand in the bank, and all American wrestler on your resume.2 points

Lehigh typically send a contingent of six (or less) to Midlands, preventing the event from counting as a official date for the team. Pretty rare for Lehigh to send a starter, unless they need bouts. Beard was an exception last year. Hines makes sense with his recent move up to 149.2 points

Few guys that are registered but have not wrestled this year: Braxton Amos Marc Anthony McGowan Ohio State has a selection of backups/redshirts: Davino, Kilkeary, Birden, Cannon, Bell, Gonzales2 points

Buckshot, I agree wit you 100% regarding making it hard to watch! Every article written about upcoming events should include date and time of said event! Flo and Track should include in their dashboards when each session of tournaments starts and which round will be wrestled which session. One shouldn't need to be logged on to their device to be able to determine if the semis are tonight or first thing in the morning when sitting in the gym! My big pet peeve is the stream for events not starting until moments before the whistle blows! No.way to.tell if you have jumped through the right hoops to log in to watch and by the time you figure it out, 3 matches have been wrestled.2 points

I saw David Taylor in North Carolina at tje Scuffle. Tsirtsis at Midlands as a redshirt freshman. Live . Those were the days. I can go on. But besides the Big tournament. They were always in he best places to be every year. If you could make it.1 point

It's my understanding that ILLINOIS is not sending their starters except for Caelan Riley. The Northwestern site lists 37 teams attending, and the list in the original post has 37 teams named. Wrestlestat.com has 20 teams scheduled for the Midlands, but that's because they only put them on the schedule if they are on the team's official schedule. I expect that like the ILLINI, Michigan, Ohio State, Missouri, Lehigh and a few others are sending partial squads. With 13 Orange and Blue wrestlers attending, that means a fun-filled Sunday and Monday for me! Get to see the young guns! The tournament doesn't have the star power at the top, but most of the weights have 10+ guys ranked in the top fifty-ish at Wrestlestat.com. We went last year and were a corporate sponsor, but it wasn't on the school's schedule this season, so we passed. Maybe we'll be back next year.1 point

That was my thought. Do the Woods and Griffith move.. get your Stanford degree and go wrestle 1 year as a mercenary and make some money.1 point

Destroyed? I put Shayne on his butt and nearly scored in the first.. they go back on their feet and Jordan gets the first takedown. I actually was surprised that it looked like Jordan Williams had the better of Shayne on their feet in the first. I never thought Williams was going to win, as I figured he'd fade by the third, but Shayne got on top and it was over. "Sophomore Shayne Van Ness, ranked No. 2 at 149, came back from an early first period deficit against No. 16 Jordan Williams to pin the Trojan at the 4:39 mark of the second period" Per Gopsusports.com EDIT: I hadn't caught up on the thread before replying. Sorry for restating what's already been said. Regardless of the SVN match, I agree that Taylor needed to establish a culture and dealing with a "wild child" while trying to do so makes for a headache. Hopefully Williams goes on to have success, but it likely wasn't going to work with someone who expects the structure and dedication that DT does.1 point

I was hoping we could see Crookham vs Byrd, but neither are registered for their respective team1 point

Could be that absolutely. Could also be financial if he sees himself getting his Stanford degree with another year left of eligibility for the highest bidder. Could also be health related even if not a true medical redshirt. Saying weird reason from me was the wrong way of me phrasing it. I was noting that it was an unexpected outcome, but the reasoning may actually be sound.1 point

If I recall correctly Soldier Salute was created as much to be an alternative to Midlands when Midlands cancelled due to the pandemic.1 point

Wrestling is the only sport that puts an effort into making it hard on fans to watch it. Other than Nationals and conference tournaments they keep schedules under wraps. How many times are people on message boards asking when the next round begins or if consolations will run concurrent with the championship round? It's almost impossible to have an event streamed without some kind of issue. Best case scenario is that the stream works but if it does you can bet the farm that the clock/scores won't be shown for at least half of it. If the powers that be had their way we wouldn't even get schedules, they'd just have meets randomly and the only people who would know about them would be the coaches and teams. And then there's the secrecy around players changing weights and injuries. I love PSU but I'll never understand Cael's need for holding back any and all information. Does he actually think that announcing Brooks was moving to 197 in preseason would have hurt him?1 point

I suspect that on the one I posted, Scott might have thought Shapiro was going one direction and Shapiro went the other, so perhaps Scott turned into Shapiro's go-behind. That's the only way I can think he managed to get behind him so quickly. Shapiro has one of the best ankle pick takedowns, and he didn't try to use it. I just hope he has foregone the upper body TDs and keeps his feet firmly planted on the ground.1 point

I think I'll draw big conclusions now. I don't get why everyone should wait until after the fact to draw conclusions. We aren't a bunch of analysts going over past data. We are message board fans commenting on what's happening right now. This would be a really boring place if we all just waited until after the season to have any conclusions.1 point

If you’re trolling, you’re doing an excellent job. If you hold Zeke accountable for the first handful of years, I don’t know what to tell you. He is far from perfect, but downplaying a non traditional power that’s finished in the top 10 five out of the last six tournaments is the elitist bullshit that holds this sport back.1 point
