This just in. Over the weekend Aaron Brooks was forced to appear at halftime of the PSU football game to turn over his 197 pound title to a guy they found in the stands who weighed 197 AND was taller than Brooks. When asked about the seemingly arbitrary way to determine a national champ, Brooks said, "Some SOB on Intermat realized I was too short for 197, so they are making me do this. He better pray to Allah I do not find out who he is." Sixty seven year old Baron Rooks, seen clapping to Brooks' right, was not surprised. "I knew I could take Brooks on the measuring tape and equal him on the scale. This is the right thing. It is just a shame it took so long," Rooks said. Rooks, a manager at a mall-based fast food chain in Omaha, Nebraska is planning to display his well deserved trophy next to the cash register.2 points

Didn't look bad to me but who knows how brains work. Any insight into this? Its an odd situation...sort of want to say I hope he's just a drama queen, which is a lot better situation than him being hyper concussion prone and the staff not caring.1 point

PJ duke expressed that he will stay 70kg and wants to make the world team next year. Assuming both Green and pantaleo wrestle at trials I think PJ will be the 3 seed. At this point in their careers I think it is safe to assume that Green and Pantaleo are no longer getting better at least from a physical standpoint where as PJ is probably making the most strides he will make in the next year or two. The same can be said for Marcus Blaze who I assume will also be the 2 or 3 seed for world team trials if he goes 61kg. Forrest also took 4th at trials albeit from a Desanto default so hes probably worth noting. I would probably not predict either guy to make the team next year at least no right now although I give PJ better odds simply because he does not have to beat Vito. A lot has been made about our lack of success this year but I think when you look at the possibility of putting two 18 year olds on our team and having confidence that they could go medal it paints a better picture of what the next decade of United States wrestling could look like.1 point

https://www.on3.com/teams/penn-state-nittany-lions/news/5-penn-state-wrestling-takeaways-from-media-day-updates-on-greg-kerkvliet-aaron-nagao-starter-battles-more/ From the article: 1. Aaron Nagao is hurt, Greg Kervliet is not 2. No decision yet at 157 between Kasak (up form 149) and Facundo (down from 165) 3. Coaches wanted Starocci to go 184 last year 4. There is still a chance Lilledahl redshirts(assuming if Kurt McHenry impresses) 5. 197 is also undecided between Lucas Cochran and Josh Barr 6. While there has been a round of wrestle offs, they will also use the non-conference schedule to make some decisions 7. Both Mirasolas are redshirting1 point

Well duh that’s obvious. David didn’t have people like Brock Lesnar whispering in his ear for the last decade. Too early to judge, but I like Gable back in the family for now.1 point

If Jax goes anywhere besides Okie State I'll be flabbergasted, even with the weird recruitment tactics. I'd love to be wrong and pull him and Bo (and Melvin and Keegan) into the Iowa Vortex! I think Bo and Iowa are a perfect fit, in particular, for Bo's goals.1 point

I hope you aren't pulling my leg. I have won stuff on these hear forums before. The last time @ILLINIWrestlingBlog mailed me a nice IWB t-shirt for winning. If I get my choice i'd like a calendar with a new fiscal or monetary policy and explanation each month.1 point

I don't think he has any significance to NCAA wrestling, if he is gonna continue internationally I'm very happy about it. If he's milking some NIL money before his next vanity project I don't care.1 point

This is super exciting. I'm not sure how one of the best young guys of all time returning could be less than exciting. Especially with a defending champ in his weight. And it probably indicates he will resume wrestling for the USA at a time when we didn't have a single champ. And somehow people want to downplay it?1 point

Doh. I read it as a question rather than a statement. My bad.1 point

He’s only had 3 NCAA tournaments. IMO he is more worthy of a “seventh year” than guys that will have wrestled 5 tournaments. I assume he goes 1331 point

Yesterday it was a list of the newly ranked freshmen on Wrestlestat. Today it is the non-freshman edition. Below is the list of sophomores, juniors, and seniors who started the year outside of the top 33, but now are in the top 33. Wrestlestat originally had Rocco Welsh at 174 for Ohio State, but now has Carson Kharchla Wrestlestat originally had Vinny Kilkeary at 125 for Ohio State, but after Brendan McCrone won the de facto wrestleoff at the Clarion Open he becomes the guy. Wrestlestat originally had Ira Jenkins at 285 for Michigan, but now has Josh Heindselman.1 point

1. You won't see my message because you block everyone and call them "dolts" 2. You are an ASU fan, get off my lawn! 3. You called for Bakersfield to drop their program....well, well, well....look where we are now. 4. You signed off last year saying you were "glad the Pac-12 folded" , so why do you care. 5. The Pac 12 coaches just met... No it's not the end of the Pac 12 and no they are not going to be an affiliates.1 point

I am guessing once they pivoted to get Kueter full time, they didn't want to come over the top and bring in Gable after Kueter sat out all of the football season.1 point

Time to turn an eye to the Buckeyes. Says Who? Wrestlestat says. The algorithm seems to prefer the Buckeyes to the indivdual. Wrestlestat has OSU ranked higher in six of ten weights with Kharchla's 174 ranking being the most significant difference of opinion. I have been trained to trust the machine's. I was a fan of that plucky young go getter Cyberdyne Systems Model 101 in the 1984 underdog classic, The Terminator. So let's go with Wrestlestat the rest of the way. All-Americans If Wrestlestat knows what they are talking about, the Buckeyes look to have somewhere between 3 and 4 All-Americans this year. The obvious one is Jesse Mendez. As the top dog at 141 he has a slightly better than 98% chance of All-Americaning. I know, I know. Dude has a title. Come on, of course he will AA. Not so fast my friend. Returning finalist from 2014-2024 only AA 89% of the time. Nick Feldman as a four seed has about three chances in four to become an AA. Putting it all together gets us 3.5 expected AA's from 10 weights. Ohio State is Clearly Better Than PSU I pointed this out on the Illinois thread, too. PSU currently has only 9 wrestlers in the top 33. Ohio State has 10. As I type, Ohio State has a better shot at matching Minnesota's all-time feat of 10 AA's than PSU. So, there is that.1 point

RV is trying to redefine what mainstream media means. It no longer means ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, NYT, WAPO etc. It means Rogan, AM radio, Fox. It is an interesting argument but one that I don't think holds any weight. mspart1 point

The new Wrestlestat rankings are out this morning (I believe Intermat updates tomorrow). Take a bow Freshmen. They have entered the building. Below are the highest ranked freshmen who were unranked in the pre-season rankings. Virginia Tech leads the way with three freshmen on the list (and both are in the top 14). Followed by NC State with two top 19 entrants.1 point

The issue with tackling misinformation is about finding a middle ground. Some on the left are fine with the idea of someone deciding what counts as misinformation. They are willing to take the risk that this power might be misused for the greater good. On the right, there's a big concern about this power being abused. They've recently (and repeatedly) seen examples where censorship has been unfair, secretive, and biased, especially in politics and health issues. They argue for freedom of speech and worry about any authority that could censor legitimate criticism or alternative views under the guise of fighting misinformation.1 point

Sure it might seem like division, however, its more about understanding. For example, I prefer subsidized education tied to performance: students with good grades would have their education covered, while those with poor grades would need to pay back some or all of the costs. And I like no-tuition college where students work for their education. It’s progressive to subsidize costs, while conservative to tie it to performance. I'm moderate right on education.1 point

An elite freestyler who's good on his feet could get by on day one. 3pt TDs catch and release all day. Gives up RT? Who cares1 point

Not really. You figure it out, it's figured out. You don't need to super duper figure it out. This kid...who just teched Vito, he comes to Okie St, they spend a year with him on bottom Wrestling, arms in, blocking off, two on one, come up and he'll be out most of the time. On occasion, he'll find his way into scrambles and...figure it out. Vs a guy like Crookham, I think it's entirely likely he beats him right in Folkstyle...but give him a year with, Fix, Gillman, whoever at OSU, or in PSU's program...and I think you could find a strategy to beat him this year. I say Crookham because I believe he'll finish his career with 1 loss and 3NCs if healthy, he's that good. But you still have 5 minutes on your feet. I think that's...4-5 TDs for the kid who just ran through the WC like his name was Gable. I'm not understating how good a kid like Crookham is on top or how hard it is to learn how to get out, but it's not like this kid is starting from scratch. Plus, just watch the way the kid Wrestles. I think it'd take about 3 seconds for him to learn a tilt. He looks like Lee on top and...John Smith on his feet. And he's 20 years old. With respect...that's the same age Beau Bassett will be next year at this time(not a shot, Bassett is a stud...just some context).1 point
