61kg Uguev vs Ono first round Bottom side is def tougher for Vito. Maybe Tuskaev in the quarters and should be a tough semi for him likely against the winner of Uguev vs Ono. 70kg Green has as good of a quarter draw as could be expected but will likely hit Ramazanov or Kudiev in the semis. 79kg Burroughs should have Nokhodi in the quarterfinals; maybe Kentchadze or Takahashi in the semis. 92kg Taylor vs Sadulaev first round And of course Ghasempour is on the same side so the top-side semi will be the finals in all but name. --- While I'm glad we'll get to see the Taylor vs Sadulaev matchup, this is once again proof that our sport at the highest levels has clown-level rules when it comes to seeding. I know UWW wants to promote their ranking series events, but these types of lopsided brackets are just laughable for any serious sporting organization. They need to add a "common sense" clause or something to the seeding criteria.5 points

We know how that got to this weight and point. If you don't think it is still one of the best matchups in freestyle history, please tell us one that supersedes a 7 time World and Olympic Champion (2 Olympic Golds and 5 World titles) vs. a 4 time World and Olympic Champion (not to mention that they also both have a silver at Worlds).3 points

Lot's of respect shown in that match. Lucas Byrd was mean against his own teammates. Wait'll he gets ahold of your favorite 133er! Kannon Webster versus Jake Harrier was a one-point match last year. Jake was the starter the year before. A match that I really wanted to see was Zac Braunagel versus Isiah Pettigrew. Isiah started last season while Zac was on his Olympic redshirt. The match did not disappoint! Luke Luffman is somehow quicker than he has ever been. He's always been agile, but WOW! I would give outstanding wrestler awards to two ILLINI: Jason Kraisser and Braeden Scoles. Scoles convincingly beat last year's true Freshman starter and National Qualifier Chris Moore and a really tough spot starter in Caden Ernd. Jason Kraisser pinned both his opponents, including Logan Swaw who got the start at B10's after the injury to Joe Roberts. I expect both to shoot up the rankings once the real matches start. The Most Improved Award goes to Antonio Alvarado. Kid's got moxy. He'll be a starter and win some matches one day. For match-by-match descriptions and video, check out this link.2 points

This thread started...in a silly way, but 1-No criteria. Put them back into the Center and let them Wrestle until someone scores. 2-I thought the rule used to be you could only do one gut(maybe it was 2) unless you held them there for a 3rd point. I wouldn't mind that. That's about it. I think there's too much trying to "fix" what's not broken.2 points

Minnesota doesn't do official wrestle-offs, but the open practice yesterday gave some indications. Salazar seems to have the edge over Nelson and Nagel at 197, who both would be solid starters. Brandon Morvari and Cooper Flynn were very close at 125, but neither opened up much so hard to say for sure. Bennett Tabor has put on good weight at Hwt, and I think will jump up significantly in the rankings. Max McEnelly is going to be a problem for a lot of 184 pounders. Tommy Askey, Andrew Sparks, Drew Roberts, Vance Vombaur, and Clayton Whiting also looked in great shape and favorites to start at their perspective weights. Tyler Wells at 133 did not participate yesterday.2 points

Do away with leg laces and trapped arm guts. They're match-ending and boring. Exposure points are only awarded if control is shown. Instead of standing them up after 10 seconds give the top man a minute or two to do his stuff. If the bottom wrestler gets away reward him with points. There's more improvements but these are a good start.1 point
-
Yes, that would be a much better and much fairer process and one that doesn't lead to the absurdity of two bronze medalists who don't wrestle each other.1 point
-
This isn't that difficult. Just use regular brackets and have full wrestle backs problem is solved. But that is using common sense. But the UWW doesn't have any common sense.1 point

That might be a good reason along with all the other Incendere rhetoric that they spew 24/7. You know everything they accuse Trump of doing or going to do the Democrats and the Liberal media do in spades. I mean they weaponize the DOJ. They try to censure free speech. There biggest lie is about abortion. It is now up to the states. Women have the freedom to practice safe sex. The have the freedom to use safe birth control. They have the right to choose their sex partner wisely. Abortion should be safe, legal and rare.1 point

Yes, the DT-Sadulaev matchup is one of the best in freestyle history, so you at least separate them on opposite sides of the bracket to build interest and enthusiasm for a potential championship final. And while we will get the match, it is first round and then excitement wanes. What are the chances of them drawing each other? I haven't done the math, but it is probably less than 5%. UWW is arguably better at corruption than building interest in the sport. And American audiences will need to get up or stay awake between 4:30 and 5:30 AM to watch. Set your alarms now, however.1 point

Should be 4 pts - same outcome as if bottom wrestler got an escape and takedown. In fact, they should be rewarded for doing it in a more efficient manner; screw it - 5 pts!1 point

I mean their strategy this term is absolutely no policy and just that he’s hitler. If the most liberal rags on the planet can’t endorse her something is wrong. That and the twinkle toes dude that’s supposed to get the Midwest manly male vote. That’s another good idea lol. Shotgun loading much and jazz hands….. tends to work with bears and packers and Vikings fans lol. That one guy with the 50 alt handles on here must be crying in his parents basement right now. i expect better memes this time if kamamalalal the kackler loses.1 point

They stacked the deck for Biden in 2020 also. He was no where in the first two primaries. Then the dems got nervous because the whack jobs were in front and they got Clyburn to pick up Biden, brush him off, and get him to win SC. Then they stuck Biden in a basement and all the other dems found their ways out of the race to avoid the Epstein treatment of some sort or other. They will continue to stack the deck. Electioneering (diddling elections) is their calling. It's what they do. Like the scorpion in the famous fable with the frog, it's what they do and they can't be expected to do anything differently nor be blamed for doing it.1 point

That's really weird. I guess they can't endorse Karma-la in good conscience. mspart1 point

Holding out could also work against a kid. We're talking about wrestling, which doesn't have deep pockets like the NIL collectives that drive football & basketball. Funds could run dry as other wrestlers are signed, or a collective might decide to splurge on another top guy. If money is a huge factor for BB, it might be in his best interest to be transparent and ask for best and final offers up front while the money's available and there's an appetite.1 point

what is the media telling us why wont the dems endorse the dems1 point

Takedown - and escape. Score is 3-1 Takedown - reversal and escape - score is 4-2 Both situations end up with both on feet. 2 pt differential. I can see the OP’s point. Or wrestler B starts on bottom. - Reversal then escape … net 1 pt improvement - Simply just escape … net 1 pt improvement Again, can see OP’s point. I’d suggest the reversal deserves more reward.1 point
-
2.5 points Yes 2 doesn't really seem right given what usually happens is an escape after the reversal basically making the revesal worth the same as just a straight escape. But if you really want your reversal to have value then follow it up with a minute+ of riding time. Yes that's hard to do thus: Reversal should be 2.5 points. Everything is digital now days, it's just as easy to put 2.5 on the score board as 2.0 or 3.0. This could also elimate a lot of OTs. But alas the decision makers have experienced too many concussions and are unable to understand how simple this is.1 point
-
Yes. Generally reversals are much more easily avoided than takdowns. It usually takes a major mistake by the top man, who pretty much has to assist the bottom man in this endeavor. Most of the time, the offensive wrestler just has to let go and he will not give up R2.1 point
-
The way I look at it is the powers that be use the scoring rules in two ways. One is to promote activities that they want more of. They want more takedowns. They made this clear when they changed a takedown from 2 to 3 points. The other way the scoring rules are used is to reward degree of difficulty. It is very difficult to expose your opponents back, so the longer you expose your opponents back the more points you will get. It is harder to pinfall your opponent than to beat them by a point, so you will get a bonus for this more difficult activity. For me, the reversal satisfies both elements. It is a takedown in the sense that the person who was up prior to the action is now down. And it is exceedingly difficult. For my money a reversal should be worth 3 points.1 point
-
Just give a point to the guy who had criteria once the match is over, similar to the OT rideout. It looks better in results. Less confusion, esp. with casuals.1 point
-
you do not have to have control to score exposure points / it who initiates the action but control is not always awarded I'm well aware of that but let's be honest talking ways to improve freestyle criteria is BS , when score board reads 4-4 is that not a tie1 point
-
The bottom wrestler did not achieve a takedown. The people who make the rules are looking to emphasize takedowns.1 point
-
goodbye to grounding control should need to be established before you can score exposure points add OT - no more ending a match with a tie score1 point

We use to have a limit on number of consecutive guts.....maybe lacelegs as well.....I agree with this.1 point

Yea we'll see how JB fares this time at 79, but he hasn't lost there that much internationally, except for that one criteria loss to Savadkouhi and that was off-season basically. Marsteller was and is a bad matchup but he adjusted. I agree with most points above and that Magomaev, Kentchadze (for whom, 79 is actually a really great weight), Nohodi, they are all medal favs. I just think JB has that extra touch that these great wrestlers don't.. Even at 36 years old1 point
-
Yeah. You're wrong here. DT is building the RTC to be as good as the college team. He's going to be wrestling pretty much all day. Multiple times a day. DT isn't going to run Zahid down to make him wrestle together, but they're going to practice together quite a bit. That is Zahid's entire point of moving to the Cowboy RTC. He wants to be pushed.1 point

Well the “lung breaks,” need to be reviewed. I think that on the 2nd one it should be a caution and one.1 point

Maybe "freestyle" actually refers to the refs - they get to freestyle and interact with the match however they want lol1 point
-
Limit the amount of ref whistle blows to less than 100 per bout. And maybe let wrestlers actually engage for more than 10 seconds of mat wrestling. Freestyle is a misnomer. It should be called takedown wrestling and reviews.1 point

Limit the number of times you can leg lace or gut someone to 2 in one sequence. That seems reasonable to me to prevent early ends of a match and keep things interesting.1 point

For me.....46th NCAA Championship dating back to 1972 (Maryland).....this will be 40 in a row, dating back to 1985 (Oklahoma City)....before I retired, it was a vacation, today.....it's still a vacation....lol. Some day I plan on being the last man standing....oh, and by the way, I can prove I've been to each of those NCAA's!!!1 point
