  2. Will you take 4 minutes to listen to what Trump said on August 14th, and then revisit his words from August 15th. The transcript is provided under the video from August 14th. August 14th ...but based on the events that took place over the weekend in Charlottesville, Virginia, I would like to provide the nation with an update on the ongoing federal response to the horrific attack and violence that was witnessed by everyone. I just met with FBI Director Christopher Wray and Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The Department of Justice has opened a civil rights investigation into the deadly car attack that killed one innocent American and wounded 20 others. To anyone who acted criminally in this weekend's racist violence, you will be held fully accountable. Justice will be delivered. As I said on Saturday, we condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry, and violence. It has no place in America. And as I have said many times before, no matter the color of our skin, we all live under the same laws, we all salute the same great flag, and we are all made by the same almighty God. We must love each other, show affection for each other, and unite together in condemnation of hatred, bigotry, and violence. We must rediscover the bonds of love and loyalty that bring us together as Americans. Racism is evil, and those who cause violence in its name are criminals and thugs, including the KKK, neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and other hate groups that are repugnant to everything we hold dear as Americans. We are a nation founded on the truth that all of us are created equal. We are equal in the eyes of our Creator, we are equal under the law, and we are equal under our Constitution. Those who spread violence in the name of bigotry strike at the very core of America. Two days ago, a young American woman, Heather Hayer, was tragically killed. Her death fills us with grief, and we send her family our thoughts, our prayers, and our love. We also mourn the two Virginia state troopers who died in service to their community, their Commonwealth, and their country. Troopers Jay Cullen and Burke Bates exemplify the very best of America, and our hearts go out to their families, their friends, and every member of American law enforcement. These three fallen Americans embody the goodness and decency of our nation.

  3. Joe Biden's Timeline of Racial Comments and Actions From 1971 to 1974, Biden's legal residence had a deed barring ownership by African Americans. In 1974, Biden made an analogy of himself as a 29 year old in the Senate to being a "token black." In 1975, Biden asked if "the only way a black man or woman can learn is if they rub shoulders with my white child?" In 1977, Biden said that busing would cause his children to grow up in "a racial jungle." In 1977, Biden voted against Black Justice Department nominees specifically over his opposition to busing. In 1977, Biden said he asked to join the Senate Judiciary Committee specifically to lead the charge against busing. In 1979, Biden voted to allow racially segregated private schools to keep their tax exempt status. In 1981, Biden said George Wallace was "right about some things." In 1984, Biden used the word "boy" to refer to Jesse Jackson. In 1985, Biden made a favorable comparison between segregationist Senator John Stennis and Confederate General Stonewall Jackson. In 1987, Biden "sought to appeal to white voters" by touting an award he received from George Wallace in 1973 where he praised Biden as "one of the outstanding young politicians in America." During his 1988 campaign, Biden falsely claimed he was part of the civil rights movement, saying he "marched" in his "youth." In 2006, Biden said, "you cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent." In his 2007 book, Promises To Keep, Biden admitted that, as a young person, he had "no real relationships with Black people." In 2007, Biden called then-Sen. Barack Obama "the first mainstream African American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy." In 2010, Biden delivered a 22-minute eulogy, the longest speech, at Senator Robert Byrd's (D-WV) memorial service, calling the former KKK member a "friend," "mentor," and "guide." In 2016, Biden praised segregationist Senator John Stennis as a "friend" and an "honorable" man. In 2019, Biden recalled the era when "he was able to get along with segregationist senators." In 2019, Biden boasted that segregationist Senator James Eastland called him son, not boy. In 2019, Biden said the Obama administration went "into the hood" of Detroit to recruit minorities. In 2019, Biden claimed a major problem Black communities face is illiteracy, saying Black "parents can't read or write themselves," leaving Black attendees "shocked and frustrated." In 2019, Biden said that "poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids." In 2020, Biden suggested some people were able to quarantine during Covid because "some black woman was able to stack the grocery shelf."

  5. I enjoy the back and forth and on occasion learn something new. Like mspart, I TRY to stick to policy/data/facts/reality and not delve into the cesspool of attacking; however, admittedly I do tend to get sucked into it at times. And as others have said, it can be therapeutic to discuss things in a "safe" manner where the people who get super upset because people have different views aren't people I personally know and thus it doesn't bother me. Funny...just had a meeting with my boss and my peers and the subject of talking politics at work was brought up and I guess the policy has changed and supposedly it is acceptable now. However, we all agreed the problem is there are a lot of people who aren't intellectually/emotionally mature enough to be able to have those type of conversations in a work setting. This forum allows me to have those conversations I can't have at work because again, I couldn't care less that people on here get all bent out of shape and emotional when they disagree with me.

  9. I stumbled across a Bill Simmons podcast called The Rewatchables. The idea is that they talk about movies that they love to rewatch. These are the kinds of movies that if you are flipping channels you will stop to watch that one great scene coming up (think the courtroom scene in A Few Good Men - aka "You can't handle the truth"). They tend to explore the movie through categories they have developed over the course of doing 350 of these. The categories are things like most rewatchable scene, biggest over acting, what aged the best/worst?, was this guy really any good at his job?, if you only had one Oscar to give who gets it?, and who won the movie? Highly entertaining stuff. As a result, I now tend to view movies through that prism. So my most rewatchable in no particular order: The Godfather The Godfather Part 2 A Few Good Men Twelve Angry Men (the original) Man on Fire Bridesmaids In The Heat of The Night Lilies of the Valley The Quiet Man The Departed Good Will Hunting Step Brothers Old School No Country for Old Men The Big Lebowski There Will Be Blood Kingpin What About Bob Shawshank Redemption Apollo 13 The Hudsusker Proxy O' Brother Where Art Thou Cast Away Groundhog Day Stand By Me Caddyshack Pump Up the Volume The 40-Year old Virgin The Bourne Identity Coming to America Raiders of the Lost Ark Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade Hoosiers The Fugitive Goodfellas Casino Miracle Stranger Than Fiction Austin Powers" International Man of Mystery Unforgiven Saving Private Ryan Glengarry Glen Ross Plains, Trains, and Automobiles Iron Man Casino Royale My Cousin Vinny Searching for Bobby Fischer .....and probably more.

  10. I'd have to sit on my thoughts for a minute to give a full-fledged list, but my favorite movie of all-time, still, is the Princess Bride. Combination of genuine comedy, fantasy, action, romance. A perfect movie.

  19. In my opinion, the 50 was a bit much for a number of reasons: the Fed have the dual mandate of stable prices and full employment. these are both still within target range. although unemployment is trending upward, now with U3 at 4.2 in August, the Fed is trying to get ahead of that. inflation is not at risk of going far below target. in the Fed's view, 50 was needed. i would have started at 25. I also think its odd to be more aggressive so close to an election, given how many people conflate the economy with the part of the current president. I also think the forward guidance was way too dovish. As if to imply the neutral rate will be back closer to where it had been pre-pandemic. I don't buy that, barring some miraculous fiscal balancing act

  20. Why did he say there were fine people there "on both sides" when everyone there was attending a rally organized by neo nazis? He said that he wasn't talking about the neo nazis, but everyone attending a rally where they are marching and chanting "jews will not replace us" is a neo nazi by any definition.

  21. Surely 450,000 can't make a difference in a big state like Oklahoma? Dead people have been voting in Illinois for a half century plus, where in the Constitution does it say they can't vote? I see a Supreme Court case on the horizon.

  22. From my understanding of how the left thinks, only white people can be racist. I personally don't go around calling people crackers but the double standard is entirely too much. Any time they disagree with something it is immediately an ism or phobe, etc

  23. That he should volunteer to pay for the cost his lies about Springfield, OH has generated. Since his batshit crazy claim that immigrants were stealing and eating pets, there have been 33 bomb threats targeting city schools. City Hall and two hospitals have also been threatened. The result is that state police have been sent to the city to reassure citizens they were safe, the Office of Homeland Security is now dedicating resources to monitor social media for possible threats to the city's residents, Wittenberg college (which just resumed classes and sports after shutting down due to threats) has had to procure additional safety resources. So open up your wallet, Donald. You now have $2 billion in newly marketable securities you can use. Maybe he can sell some Springfield themed crypto, bibles, steaks, and online courses. There are just so many ways to foot the bill for the lies.

  25. Bomb threats at schools raise a red flag for me. In my area, there were several bomb and shooting threats after recent publicized shootings, which reflects copycat or attention-seeking behavior. The "eating pets" comment was a clever way to bring attention to the immigration issue, but the schools themselves aren’t related to this topic. If anything, targeting city hall makes sense.

  26. Making up the problem was the problem. And to say the bomb threats came from overseas is irrelevant. It does not in any way matter where they came from. It only matters that they came. And it matters that it was due to Trump's lies.

  27. You have no experience with war in your homeland, especially with terrorists, and evidently no concept, either. Terrorist’s advantage of civilian attire and hiding amongst civilians was conclusively defeated in an effectively targeted, and low impact operation. Congratulations Israel. 31. Why would one take the complex politics out of the reaction? Seems silly to. Let’s just sit back and wait till next Oct 7 and see if they can massacre more our women and children. The population essentially elected a terrorist org to run their country. What could go wrong with that decision…. Maybe your beef is with the vegetable in chief? I don’t see real (non antifa) lefties pressuring him. Maybe the press will ask the kackler incumbent hard questions before she is blindly elected ? Maybe not. But maybe.

  36. These aren’t people. They are Hamas. A terrorist organization that runs Gaza…. It was an act of war not some set of gang bangers. So yes. They’ve had it and are kicking them in the teeth. Let’s not pretend it’s the first time they have done it either. Their sole purpose for existing is getting rid of Israel so let’s not pretend these guys are local nice Boy Scouts. What should they do. Send them a Bundt cake and see if they want to play nice? are they open to a two state solution? Has it been offered and rejected a bunch of times?

  40. Years ago I met Chris Gardner at his office, Gradner Rich Securities. I was pitching him on outsourcing his more complicated trades to my firm. It was a weird meeting. It felt like he was pitching me, not the other way around. He seemed like such a promoter. At the end of the meeting he tells me they are going to make a movie about his life and Will Smith was going to play him. I smiled and nodded and thought this guy was so full of shit. A few weeks later my wife is watching 20/20 and they have a story about Will Smith portraying Chris Gardner. Son of a bitch, who is full of shit now?
