At 61kg we have Vito vs Blaze. I don’t think anyone expects Blaze — a high schooler — to beat the defending world champ. If he loses people will say something like “wow you made it the WTT finals as a high schooler. Amazing. Now get back to your homeroom.” And if he wins he’s a legend forever. Not a bad position to be in! At 70kg we have Green vs Pantaleo. It’s great to see Green back. Let’s see what these guys can do. At 79kg, we have JB versus Marsteller. Can JB reverse the outcome from last year? Also, how about that age gap between Blaze and JB? One guy probably lives with his parents and the other guy has like five kids. At 92kg, we have Zahid versus DT. This is a great matchup. Zahid is the reigning bronze medalist, and he was virtually even with Aaron Brooks at OTTs. And DT is DT. Of course, there may be questions about conditioning from one or both guys. All I know is that I’ll be watching for the cold spray. Oh and if Zahid wins, he might have the best Mexican Independence Day (Sept 16) of his life. I know I’ll be enjoying some Mexican food.3 points

Just imagine if he had no legs at all. 35 + 35 = a SEVENTY pound advantage! And no legs to shoot at! Now THAT is unfair. Don't even get me started on how unfair it'd be if he didn't have a head either.3 points

Well, let's hope we get a Taylor-Sadulaev match at Worlds because if it doesn't happen now it will likely never happen since I sense this is Taylor's last dance ... although who knows?2 points

What an exciting match. 2 ref assigned points to one ref assigned point. I do not understand why wrestling viewership is abysmal.2 points

He scored enough to beat 3 senior world team members in a row who made a combined 9 NCAA's finals while being significantly smaller than all of them and limiting Vito to a push out. I think he will be just fine.2 points

Interesting... O'Toole > Carr Haines > O'Toole Carr > Haines No match was close2 points

IIRC step outs had two purposes: 1) keep action in the center; 2) reward wrestlers who take offensive risks. The step out itself (for the most part) shows that one wrestler has forced another wrestler to go somewhere they didn't want to go.2 points

Classic Downey. Looks superior the first minute and a half, works in a nice throw, gets a nice lead, gets winded, takes a lung timeout, staggers to the 30 second break, catches a quick smoke, returns for second period, gives up 15 straight points for the tech, walks off during the hand raise while the ref calls after him.2 points

Clearly will be a big benefit to him. Wrestling with Vito and Yianni. The Big Red will welcome him and guide home to future success on the mat and in life as a whole.1 point

I agree. All of the one legged champions demonstrate how much of an advantage it is.1 point

Reckless presumptions on your part. Jumping to conclusions. Here's a plausible unreckless take for our brethren spreadsheet experts: This guy was probably setting up his deer blind for the upcoming famous West Palm Beach Rut that happens the 3rd week of every September on that exact hole of the golf course. The secret service recklessly concluded something similar to what you concluded and violated this man's hunting rights. Sheesh, dude. Your recklessness and jumping to conclusions is slowing down the FBI and SS from finding out what happened in Pennsylvania. They certainly don't need non-experts like you getting all chesty and jumping to BASELESS conclusions with NO EVIDENCE of assassination attempts. No court in any state has concluded that any assassination attempt has taken place nor ever convicted any felons so just back off. There is only 1 felon associated with this alleged attempt and his mere existence threatens democracy. Therefore please let the people trying to prevent citizens from voting for him conclude their work in the name of democracy.1 point

I wrestled him a lot in high school and was in his class. Did he have a strength advantage? Absolutley. Did he present unique problems? Absolutely. Are either of those things why he was an NCAA D1 champion? Absolutely not. He had the determination and attitude of a champion and he paved his way like every other champion.1 point

Feel good about everyone on our mens team bringing home a medal. If Ghasempour and Sadulaev go at 92 that will obviously be a brutal field but I think DT looked great. Blaze is obviously the main talking point for guys that did not win but I was also super impressed with Duke and Forrest as usual. Levi also looked really really good that shot he pulled in on Keegan was insane. Guys that were a bit disappointing for me were Keegan and Mirasola. Keegan probably should have teched Carr that rear standing stalemate was insane but from there he did not score another point in the tournament. I thought Mirasola was really going to push to be a top 5ish guy here and he just was not. would have liked to see Cardenas go through the entire backside he killed everyone outside of the Jacques match.1 point

Steps outs are definitely offensive points. They aren’t takedowns and they aren’t worth as much as takedowns. But I am glad they award the guy taking an offensive attack and driving his opponent out of bounds. Using JB and Ringer as an example, JB was definitely on the attack and earned those push outs. That’s not always the case, but I think the majority of the time it is and I’m glad they award those points.1 point

Yes. He will get bigger and probably settle into 65kg. Adding muscle to that technique and defense and he will be very good1 point

The door was open for less than a second when one cop grabbed him by his head and threw him to the ground as he was getting out of the car. I've watched well over a thousand traffic stops as part of my job, this was completely unnecessary. The cops job is not to rough up people who are rude to them; they are supposed to be the professionals in these interactions.1 point

When wasn't he complying with that? 3s after the initial statement when he first says he was getting out? When he took his seatbelt off, opened the door, and moved his foot outside the vehicle - was he not complying through any of that? This sound like another way of saying the delay wasn't unreasonably long. Probably means the office should have been more patient as the amount of time it took was reasonable. I realize that then the person you are arguing on behalf of is in the wrong it may be tempting to make any argument that goes your way, but this is incredibly weak. He was not complying with the order to exit the vehicle for 8s during which time he 1) said he was getting out, 2) unbuckled his seatbelt, 3) opened the door, and 4) swung his leg outside the car all whilst talking on the phone with his agent who is also a lawyer. So it wasn't some unrelated call. If the police allowed him to speak with his agent/lawyer it may have mediated the tense situation. The purpose of the detention was to cite and/or warn Hill for the moving violation and to do so in a safe manner. Before the order to exit the vehicle the officers had everything they needed to write him the tickets. They wanted the window down to be able to observe him for reasons of officer safety. Okay fine. He opens it, but they aren't satisfied with how open it is, so they order him to exit the vehicle. Supreme Court case law (Mimms) says they can do this. He takes off his belt and opens the door. As soon as the door opens Hills leg swings outside the automobile as the officer is reaching for him and grabs him. He stops moving or at least slows down after the officer grabs him. Why is the officer grabbing him? Is that justified? I don't think so for a couple reasons. 1) Hill was complying 2) The officer seemed to grab him as soon as the door opened and not in reaction to any delay after the door opened even though Hill is telling him he is getting out 3) There was no officer safety reason for it. If they were satisfied from an officer safety standpoint with an open window an open door provides even greater visibility. If the argument is that Hill was moving slowly after the door was open then there isn't really an officer safety argument for expediting it. The door is wide open they have full visibility of Hill and his movement. The open door negates the threat of him reaching for a weapon they can't see because of tinted windows. The car is surrounded by police. There is no immediate threat. Let him slowly exit. There really isn't any thing Hill could have done differently that would fully satisfy apologists for the Miami police when exiting the vehicle. If swiftly exits the vehicle some would say the police were justified in grabbing him because the swift exit could be interpreted as attempting to run. If he exits slowly and deliberately as he was doing then it's that slow is somehow noncompliance. To me that video had enough before that. He was intent on somehow winning the encounter with Hill and likely made the decisions to put hands on him before the door opened. He forgot what officers are supposed to do on a traffic stop - write the ticket. It takes the officers nearly 20 minutes to write the tickets and only start after some more important looking cops show up and tell them to. That is a creative interpretation. Here is an alternative interpretation. Hill says damn not because he's surprised at the officer's strength and ability to drag him out of the car, but that he's surprised the officer would grab him at all since he is exiting the vehicle on his own. Saying Hill wasn't exiting the vehicle is at odds with Hill statements and actions. Hill says he exiting the car. How can you intelligently argue against his on-site visual record especially when his actions in the video support that? 1) said he was exiting. 2) Removed seatbelt 3) opened door 4) started exiting the vehicle by swinging leg outside of the door 5) grabbed by officer. Finally I am confident in saying if Hill was trying his best to stay in the vehicle he would have stayed in the vehicle longer.1 point

I’m excited for the movie! However, I don’t want to get my hopes too high. Foxcatcher had an all star cast as well (even more so than this) and it was a bit of a let down IMO1 point

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from a guy who knows a kid who's going with the girl who saw him drop some weights at the gym and get confronted by a guy that he was too loud. The campus police showed up but he refused to give his name. I don't think it's serious.1 point

WR, RL was speaking specifically of Trump and I think that is clear. But he did not specify Trump, he said politician. My question to him, in not so much specificity, was does the same apply to Kamala. Is his rule of thumb universal or targeted? I think you are right, it will be stratified. If you don't like candidate A, suckers are the only ones going to see him/her. If you like candidate B, those that go are not suckers. mspart1 point

I have been deep diving on Ono just because I thought he was the OW of u20's he won the dogu this year teching uulu 11-0 who was last years world bronze at 61kg and beating atri 4-0 who was silver in 2022. I am not saying his match with Blaze was competitive but this is a guy that could legit win worlds this year and Blaze was able to stay on the mat with him. Really puts into perspective that Blaze could be senior world level right now and was wrestling 121 not even a full year ago.1 point
