Shane liegel wrestled d3. Pretty cool he’s ranked at 16. Would be a cool story if he made the podium.6 points

Great job by Malik Amine on the mic. I don't imagine he has a lot of practice, but he is already doing a strong job.5 points

At the Newberry Open (Newberry College, SC; NCAA D2) both of Newberry’s coaches are competing (149, 184) as a result of a fundraising challenge. I can’t help but feel as a fan of the sport that we need more of this! https://www.trackwrestling.com/opentournaments/MainFrame.jsp?newSession=false&TIM=1706461466768&pageName=%2Fopentournaments%2FBracketViewer.jsp&twSessionId=ecavakfdqi4 points

I am hard-wired to root against the heavy favorites, but Keegan O'Toole is hard to root against. Wrestles hard and wins with relative humility.3 points

How does anyone compete with the 10-15 programs that are willing to throw money at facilities and have donor support: Illinois is installing a $14M facility; Iowa is getting a $31M facility. College sports are becoming an arms race, even in a sport that has no true pro league or millions to be made like the average pro in the NBA or NFL.2 points

Joles over Poz is a pretty shocking result..Poz was undefeated and looking great so far counting this year and last (his redshirt year) he’s now 20-2 while joles already has 6 loses already .Poz is seen as a possible top 5 placer in the Rutgers world and community ( he did finish 4th as a true freshman)2 points

Why insult D2 like that?! I say drop them to D3! They could have a dual at Carthage College in Kenosha.2 points

Unless there has been a drastic change, they have scholarships. NIL cash I strongly doubt. What happened was the loss of 4 AA's - the three UM transfers and Yayha. And of course Deakin the year before. I'm just guessing the transfers were somewhat unexpected and they were caught short on using available schollys in recruiting. Anyway, it's start from pretty much scratch time. Not sure how they can get recruits like Welch, Tsirtsis etc. in this new $$ age. Could be a rough road ahead. Even Storniolo seems discouraged.2 points

At least it didn't cost Brown the dual. In 1999-2000, Army and Navy wrestled to a 16-16 draw. I'm pretty certain one of the Army wrestlers threw a fit after his loss and cost his team a point. How'd you have liked to be that wrestler on the ride back to the Point from Annapolis?2 points

I could be mistaken, but I thought all of DeAugustino, Cannon, and Davison were all grad transfers. And that Northwestern has zero scholarships (although maybe do provide some aid, but I have no clue) whereas Michigan has NIL money to throw around, along with 9.9 scholarships, and are another midwest school with top academics2 points

You could possibly squeeze in half of the Mizzou / Cornell dual at 1:00 (EST)... Oh wait - remove from list, due to ducks.2 points

I hate current replay in most sports as I don't think it justifies the stoppage, particularly because they blow the call anyway a lot, and because they can't reverse when everyone knows they should a lot. It's particularly frustrating in wrestling because it's an action sport and a conditioning sport. As a fan the stoppages have noticeably lessened the viewing experience for me. One of the best selling points for the sport previously was that there aren't any timeouts. That's gone by the wayside. I'm not totally anti electronic help. Tennis has been helped enormously by many tournaments going all laser calls. If the ball lands out, a recorded voice instantly yells, "out," and the point is over. There are no arguments at all. Who can you argue with? Also, the players have confidence in the accuracy. This improves play quality, because you don't have players getting doubts in their mind about the fairness of the competition. Someone mentioned balls and strikes in baseball. I actually advocate that they go all electronic on balls and strikes, and get rid of replay for everything else, all other calls stand. Missed balls and strikes affect the outcome of baseball games 10 times more than missed other calls. The players have zero confidence in the home plate umpires, most of whom are not good at their jobs, which are very hard even if you're good at it (ball moving 95 mph, moving a foot or more, large human blocking your view). My understanding is that the minor league experiment, kind of like the old tennis system of challenges, worked very well and did NOT slow down the game. The pitcher, catcher, or hitter immediately touches their hat, and the ump is immediately given the call. That's it. It really depends on the physics of the sport and whether, like tennis, but generally unlike wrestling, they're susceptible to a clear, objective, electronic result. But I start with a bias against because the breaks in action are so substantial, and the results often ridiculous (last minutes of an NBA game are a joke, so long, and they screw up all the time). Another thing and I'll shut up. A lot of the overrules are to me pretty pointless. When a runner slides in safe and then is off the base for .00001 seconds when his foot comes off before his hand comes on, have we accomplished something by calling him out? There are also some situations in basketball where the last person to touch the ball is basically a technicality, it's been knocked out by someone else.2 points

Sure is interesting that 3 years in Biden suddenly has an idea to shut the border down. - right after trump says he wants to run for President mainly on Bidens open border debacle2 points

That meme pretty much sums it all up. People forget about the choices people are making. There's talk about empathy and caring about others, yet, there is no talk about personal responsibility and personal choice for their actions. Which includes the people trying to come here illegally and the countries in which they are fleeing. I'll never understand the logic people on here use and say these poor people are leaving a country that is so bad, and it is so bad because of the US, but they want to get to the US?? Our government are a bunch of idiots about a lot of things, and we need to make changes, but holy crap, we are a GREAT country and there is a reason so many people want to come here unvetted. Letting people in without any sort of vetting process is essentially wanting us to be like the very countries these people are trying to leave.2 points

I had the opposite feeling today, coaches shouldn’t need to challenge as much and official challenges should happen more often. But also I feel like that does mess up the flow of matches. I want the right call so challenges are necessary, they need to make them quick though.1 point

Too many stoppages for my liking. Wrestling is a sport where conditioning is a huge tool and these stoppages take away from that.1 point

Wonder if anyone with actual human psychology experience would weigh in. (I have zero… other than one psych class a 20 years ago in college). I feel like refs that have the backup of replay just make the easier call then go to the film to review. Knowing they have that causes so many more reviews than necessary. Tempo in wrestling is so much more important than like the nfl or mlb to me. It’s a noticeably different product.1 point

huh? Hey! Some of us assistants are there merely for crowd control, morale support, yelling "SQUEEZE" at random times during a match, and keeping the snack table clean and orderly. Technique?!? Rules!?! Those things are for the young kids like the head coach and recent graduates lurking around the room.1 point

There is another video showing a view of the kid on top sinking in a choke and quickly pulling an arm under an arm, but I can’t seem to post it here from my phone. It was quick and the ref was on top of the position, before Brunson jumped in. So the discussion calling it a merkle isn’t fully accurate but no way do you put your hands on another kid. here’s the FB link to that post though … He shouldn’t be allowed to coach anyone’s kid, let alone his own if this is how he reacts to that quick of a position. https://www.facebook.com/share/v/gqjhkSUU2iHXkEL5/?mibextid=K8Wfd21 point
