Gray Simons won 7- 4 NAIA 3 NCAA. Officially it was the NCAA realizing no other sport gave 2 bites at the apple. But I wouldn't be surprised Haselrig prompted the thought process.5 points

Why did you see yourself in this role? The first thing that really hooked me was just wrestling because I loved wrestling so much in high school. Collegiate wrestling is different than professional wrestling. People are going nope, but collegiate wrestling is really an incredibly disciplined sport. Some people say it's a kind of sadomasochism. It's a wonderful combination of training, endurance, you know mental agility. People who are wrestlers are a very bizarre breed of people, and that's what originally hooked me into it. They're usually very individualistic... because no one comes to see your wrestling matches. Usually, it's you are in a small steamy room, it's always bizarre. I don't know if we can put this on TV but I used to have my own... my mother and father came to see me wrestle once. I was winning, but every so often, the coach would yell crotch ride, crotch ride. I know mom's going 'no.' But it's a wonderful sport I mean I really loved it...3 points

i wouldn't file this in the 'duck' category. Smith just got teched by McKee and despite Smith's hth over Ramos there's no way Smith gets seeded anywhere close to him. Smith needed this match more than Matt.3 points

I actually didn’t know the background of those guys, thanks for that. I am new to following wrestling this intensely, but Beard is a beast and I hope the best for him. (He beat my ass in HS btw).3 points

It’s good to see. He’s in USA singlet now, so it reflects on more than just Iowa now if he goes off the rails. But the difference in maturity and self control is like night and day. Proud of him.3 points

Binghamton over Navy by a single point in the team dual. There weren't any major upsets and there weren't any ducks or notable absentees. Binghamton is really well coached and has limited resources.2 points

Close. Very close. Scott Moore finished fourth for PSU in 2003 and third for Virginia in 2004.2 points

This is the new normal - duals don't matter, coaches and wrestlers don't get penalized for missing matches and everyone is hopping on the bandwagon whenever a guy isn't 100%. It's now expected that 1-2 of the top matchups in every dual don't happen. Embrace it!2 points

The funny thing about this topic is no one cares except Le Duke whose gonna be trolled out of her mind.2 points

Should be some good matchups this week. Pat Kennedy/Ruth, Ragusin/Bouzakis, Plott/Keckeisen, Jamison/Happel, Poulin/Volk and Mauller/Shapiro are a few of the ones I'm most looking forward to if everyone wrestles.2 points

Joey looks great. Was right there with Franek too. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see him on the podium in Kansas City this year.2 points

Yes redshirting and fingers crossed they show out soon. If Beard can handle three days of cutting he will be a force at NCAAs. He is a prime example of why a 97kg equivalent weight class should exist at the NCAA level. I think he beats Buchanan at a dual or on Thursday night but Saturday/ Sunday morning is going to be a very different match.2 points

Every Joey Blaze win and success gives me hope that Marcus Blaze will end up at Purdue. I sure hope Joey is liking Purdue, I need him home for the holidays and breaks talking up his time as well as Ersland and Co.2 points

Ironic. Sourcing articles incorrectly to prove a point they are not making to further solidify a position the no one is challenging. "Critical thinking, as we're taught to do it, isn't helping in the fight against misinformation." Is the line. And you're laying out exactly why this is true by your comment. We need to be better thinkers. Not to 'just' listen and obey. But to be better at navigating the information that is thrown at us everyday. That your take away is 'MSM doesn't want you to do your own research' is the wrong conclusion and highlights the point they are trying to make. That you are bias and only looking for and at information to pick out the things that you already agree with. That we are bad at searching through information and discerning objective information from biased data. Being better at understanding where MSM gets and processes their information helps you to hold them accountable if they begin to slip and feed you BS for money. So posting stories like these helps you to challenge their foothold in the information race and threatens their financial interest. Which should make you feel better about their motivation. Will it? Something tells me, no. But you do you.1 point

Well, it’s what we consider the D1 championship but it’s the NCAA championship with the longest history. There have been a single NCAA championship, then a University Division and D1 championships since the late 20s, but D1 didn’t exist until 1973-74.1 point

its great to see Desanto grown up and maturing. Desanto appears to be an eccentric, a genuine oddball which is awesome...he handled this nonsense with class.1 point

Since Smith beat Ramos already at CKLV (or Midlands or something), he has no incentive from the sport to compete against Ramos. Although most of us would frown upon that kind of behavior1 point

Effetes are not elite. Ivy city dwellers are not elite by any definition I accept. They are most definitely effete. My experience is that city and dense suburban dwellers everywhere think everyone else has too much freedom and want to control/limit what the other people can do. Maybe it is required in a humano-dense area for everyone to forfeit some freedom in order to get along. However, they should be able to communally make rules ONLY for those in their immediate area. I neither need nor want effetes in DC or NY or Boston or LA of SF all of whom are over 500 miles from me to have ANY say about how I live or what I do. It matters not if there are 1 billion million of them and I am only one. Majority does not rule, majority does not have authority, majority may not infringe my rights, majority may do none of the above Majority may only vest very limited authority in their own representative who may make decisions for a government that we have also given very limited authority to decide how best to defend us, secure borders, make roads, house criminals, and very little else.1 point

Beard beat Stout by major, 18-8, at the Princeton Open in November; then tech falled him at Midlands. Beat DePrez by MD last Friday, 12-1. Beat Cardenas 10-3 the following afternoon. The matches will be tougher for the other guys.1 point
-
On that note, can we talk about how passive Michigan was? I realize PSU is really good - I even suggested they could shut Michigan out if they wrestled all their guys, and they damn near did anyway - but in the majority of matches it felt like we were watching paint dry because the Michigan guy was blocking and refusing to engage. Ragusin and Lemley actually wrestled to win and you can probably include Bullock, but man, the rest weren't doing much even when their corner was begging them to try something. Rivera was being kind to the Wolverines, IMO.1 point
