  1. In the spirit of Christmas, I just wanted to express my gratitude for having a community of people that like to talk about college wrestling and most of you happen to be awesome individuals. Cheers mother***duck**ers

  3. Good post FC. Banter here sometimes puts us at odds, but that just reminds me more of my time spent in the wrestling room. Wrestling is a lot of things, but it isn't a chill sport. This is really a pretty cool place. Thanks Husker & Co for providing it. And Merry Christmas to everyone!

  6. In biology the answer is ONE "In a landmark paper based on the Human Genome Project, scientists showed that there are no “races” but a single human race—not in sociological terms, but according to biology. The project found that there is more genetic variation within a single population subgroup than between two different population subgroups. For example, there may be more genetic diversity within a population in Asia than between that same population and a different population in Europe."

  7. I don't know if that was directed at me?? Mine was meant to get a laugh. Nothing more, nothing less. Wild Bill trying to define "is". Is weed legal in OH? If not, maybe it ought to be. Merry Christmas to you too.

  11. Thank you for posting your video. It's wonderful. I loved it, as I love the Alistair Sims version of A Christmas Carol dearly. Your video is quite enlightening, providing a cool analysis of the beginning of the story, the background story of Laura Bridgeman and Dickens' writing about her. Very nice. One small quibble: I would avoid words like ridiculous when discussing this serious piece of literature that is everything that you so clearly expressed; it is a call to the reader to improve himself, and to do good in the world. It reminds me of some of the writings of Leo Tolstoy, who in one of his autobiographies lays out what he sees as our duty and responsibility as humans: to take this journey and make it one in which we improve incrementally, doing more good for others in the world. Merry Christmas to you and everyone. God bless us, everyone.

  12. To flush all that tradition? This is awful. I grew up on Lehigh and EIWA wrestling on TV! I used to enjoy attending the EIWA's. An all-Ivy qualifier...nope - and I'm sure most would agree. Full stands in the arena? More likely a HS gym if they are lucky, and they won't be full. From a spectator perspective (important), I would say they took 10 giant steps backwards. Would love to know what group of folks thought this was a good thing??

  20. The world population can be divided into 4 major races, namely white/Caucasian, Mongoloid/Asian, Negroid/Black, and Australoid. This is based on a racial classification made by Carleton S. Coon in 1962. There is no universally accepted classification for “race”, however, and its use has been under fire over the last few decades. The United Nations, in a 1950 statement, opted to “drop the term ‘race’ altogether and speak of “ethnic groups”. In this case, there are more than 5,000 ethnic groups in the world, according to a 1998 study published in the Scientific American. So should we go with 4 or 5,000?

  24. In January of 2023, Lou Deprez was injured in a match at the Southern Scuffle. Little did he know this injury was serious enough to end his final season of NCAA eligibility, and ultimately, his wrestling career. Because of his importance to the program, Head Coach Kyle Borshoff named Lou to the coaching staff immediately. He was very much a valued teammate on and off the mat. It was Borshoff’s intention to keep Lou around the program as much as possible, no matter the capacity. Fast forward almost a year later, Lou Deprez will return to the roster as a wrestler thanks to a medical redshirt. He brings one of the best resumes to ever step foot inside the Binghamton program. He is already a four-time NCAA qualifier and three-time EIWA champion while amassing an impressive 131 wins at the collegiate level. More importantly, he is the first two-time All-American in school history. He was selected as an NWCA All-American in the canceled 2020 tournament and finished 8th in 2021. In his last full season, he made the quarterfinals in 2022, failing to repeat as an All-American losing in the round of 12 – or infamously named the “Blood Round.” Deprez will compete at the 197 lbs weight class. Assuming he has not lost too much of a step, the Binghamton squad will now have a line-up containing four ranked wrestlers in addition to Brevin Cassella (165 lbs), Jacob Nolan (184 lbs), and Cory Day (285lbs). The opportunity will be a great chance for Deprez to earn another All-American honor while vastly filling a hole in the line-up in a major way. As a warm-up for the collegiate season, Lou decided to compete at the U.S. Senior Nationals freestyle event in Fort Worth, TX. He wrestled at 97 kgs – which equates to 213 lbs. He lost in the quarterfinals to the eventual champion, Kollin Moore, formally of Ohio State. He came back to earn eighth place in the star-studded bracket. In the final match, he injury defaulted. Yesterday, DePrez made his return to the collegiate scene yesterday at Lehigh’s Sheridan Invitational. There was very little rust as DePrez won the 197 lb bracket with four straight wins. He posted bonus points in his first three matches, then downed JT Davis (Lehigh) in the finals - 9-3. In our last rankings update, DePrez made his 2023-24 debut at #14.

  26. He gave ~3.4%, there's no 10% to church (which he talks about all the time) largest gift to his son's charity $5k. Also their effective fed tax has been a little over 20% but they should be in the 35 to 37% tax bracket, so why are they paying their 'fair share?' But you are evidently correct his son gives 10% to the father.

  29. Because I was bored and couldn’t fall back asleep when I originally made this post, I clicked on the profiles of the comments in question. I’m no forensic IT dude, but while there may have been a bit of trolling involved, they all made semi-regular posts about random topics unrelated to racism that interested them, so I did not get the impression that any were “bad actors,” but who knows. And like I said earlier, I totally get that X/Twitter is a cesspool. But that particular post seemed worse than usual at least in regards to wrestling conversation.

  30. The idea of ‘Us’ vs ‘Them’ has very deep roots in history and how our brain works. Being racist is an easy and lazy way to get the dopamine fix. ‘I feel better and am happier by considering myself and those I associate with as better than those people.’ Our society is making progress in fighting against racism and I hope that progress continues. Continues to take focus. This thread helps. I will caution about twitter comments though. We have plenty of proof of ‘Bad actors’ … often backed by antagonistic countries … that are trying to sow division and unrest. Don’t be a lemming.

  31. Suck it up, don't be such a loser, get over your panophobia, Charlie Brown. The best part of the Xmas Special is when Schulz goes all Kafka and has God turn his back on Charlie Brown in the penultimate scene, the true final scene before net execs Hollywooded it: Linus tells the true meaning of Xmas -- the Jesus savior bit -- Charlie Brown's spirits are lifted and then ... he kills the tree. God has abandoned CB. Edit: Wait ... I might be misremembering the order. This might explain a lot. Scheduling therapy appt now. Edit 2: Nope. I was right.

  32. Lack of respect for teachers is as big of a reason to why people don’t want to teach as pay is.
    1 point
  33. High costs = lack of qualified teachers to teach them. Teachers used to be able to go to school for very little and have a well paying job when they graduated, with very little or any debt. Now, they have massive debt and are paid very little relative to the cost of living in their school district. So, no one wants to be a teacher anymore. Turnover is incredibly high, particularly among younger teachers. Turns out, crippling debt isn’t what they had in mind when they decided to become a teacher. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  41. I'm for more wrestling, but I see your point about wear and tear. It just seems to me that wrestling real matches gets the rust of better. But perhaps, they take care of that in practice. The top keeps being at the top. Snyder seems to be an exception here, he wrestles through the year. mspart

  42. Bailey was obviously pissed off he couldn't do anything. Arujau could have been a little nicer, I suppose, but this is wrestling. If you aren't tough you won't make it. That said, seeing those asshats in the comments is sad.

  45. I guess I'll also add my thoughts on the weight classes. I'm and old fogie and really they don't matter as long as we have a wide range of weights. Anyone that complains about the weight classes is doing so based on their immediate experiences and most likely how their team is shaping up today and the future. There are years coaching where I wanted the old 103 start weight and years I wish the start weight was 110. There are years where I would have loved having 6 weights 170 on up and years where I wish there were 2! In my area we might have trouble filling 182lbs, but in others they may have trouble filling 106lbs. The bottom line is the weight classes won't do much to affect the forfeit issue that is there. Reducing the number of weights just gives coaches an artificial bump in saying their reduced forfeits and they'll keep doing the same things with recruiting and retention. The NFHS and NWCA need to focus more on educating coaches and working on retention of athletes more than the weight classes. If we do a better job of retaining athletes we will see a reduction in forfeits more than changing the weights will ever do.
