This video shows highlights of Zane Richards of the United States winning the Gold Medal match at 57kg at the Pan Am Games of 2023. He wrestled Oscar Tigreros, the Olympian and 2x (now 3x) Pan Am Silver medalist. Tigreros beat the Cuban in the semifinals, while Richards beat NCAA Champion Darian Cruz of Puerto Rico in his semi. The announcer is a Scot. There were Cubans at every weight, but no Cuban champions. Good day for America!2 points

While I can appreciate brand management, sometimes you are what the people say you are. Resistance is futile. Credit to the Cal Baptist SID for sending the email that his boss told him to send because someone saw a Tweet.2 points

Just a reminder: It's not Cal-Baptist, or Cal Baptist. It's California Baptist. (got an e-mail from their sports information department a year or two ago about this)2 points

It's always fun to try to read through the D1 manual. I liken it to trying to read James Joyce's Ulysses (not that I have). Both around 500 pages of gibberish. I believe those two individuals (and Jordan Wood at Lehigh during Covid year) were not enrolled first semester then enrolled second. 14.4.3.7 Waivers of Progress-Toward-Degree Rule. The Division I Progress-Toward-Degree Waivers Committee shall establish appropriate criteria for waivers of this legislation. The following waivers shall be administered by the 8/10/23 160 conference members of the Association or, in the case of an independent institution, by the Division I Progress-Toward- Degree Waivers Committee. (Revised: 1/9/96, 10/28/97, 4/27/00, 10/31/02 effective 8/1/03, 3/10/04, 4/28/05, 1/17/09 effective 8/1/09, 1/14/12, 5/22/13, 3/27/18, 1/22/20, 1/22/20) (b) International Competition. The credit hours required under the progress-toward-degree regulation of Bylaws 14.4.3.1 and 14.4.3.6-(c) may be prorated at nine hours per term of actual attendance during an academic year in which a student is not enrolled for a term or terms or is unable to complete a term as a full-time student as a result of participation in the Pan American Games, Parapan American Games, Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, World Championships, World Cup, FIFA U-20 World Cup, World University Games (Universiade) or World University Championships (including final tryouts and the officially recognized training program that directly qualifies participants for those tryouts). This waiver provision may be applied to not more than two semesters or three quarters. Credits earned by the student during the term or terms to which the waiver applies may be used to satisfy the 24-/36- hour [see Bylaw 14.4.3.1-(a)], percentage-of-degree (see Bylaw 14.4.3.2) and grade-point average requirements (see Bylaw 14.4.3.3). However, a term to which an international competition waiver applies does not count as a term of full-time enrollment for purposes of the 24/36 credit-hour requirement, percentage-of-degree requirements or gradepoint average requirements. 14.4.3.8 Waiver -- Olympic or Paralympic Games. The Division I Progress-Toward-Degree Waivers Committee may waive this general progress-toward-degree requirement for any participant in the Olympic or Paralympic Games, who because of such participation, may lose eligibility for practice and competition in any sport. Greetings All, Quickly put this together. All 'Ratings' are via Wrestlestat and are just that - RATINGS. I didn't use Wrestlestat's lineup as some of those guys aren't even listed on their rosters and are listed at different weights than on Wrestlestat... That said... here you go. #22 Campbell WT - Rank Name - Class, 22/23 Record, Result(Notes) 125 - #50 Anthony Molton - JR, 13W-9L, 1W-2L @ SOCON 133 - #16 Domenic Zaccone - JR, 21W-7L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 141 - #38(149) Chris Rivera - JR, 11W-13L, 3W-1L @ SOCON (@149) 149 - #65 Justin Rivera - JR, 0W-0L, (11W-1L during RS @ 149/2021-22) 157 - #147 Hagen Heistand - FR, 12W-7L, Redshirt 165 - #54(157) Troy Nation - SR, 14W-7L, 3W-1L @ SOCON 174 - #31 Austin Murphy - SR, 0W-0L, (2W-1L @ SOCON 2021-22, R12 2020-21) 184 - #23 Caleb Hopkins - SR, 19W-10L, 0W-2L @ NCAA 197 - #16 Levi Hopkins - SR, 25W-10L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 285 - #13 Taye Ghadiali - SR, 27W-5L, 1W-2L @ NCAA #24 Army WT - Rank Name - Class, 22/23 Record, Result(Notes) 125 - #28 Ethan Berginc - SO, 27W-8L, 0W-2L @ NCAA 133 - #58 Ryan Franco - SO, 22W-11L, N/A (1W-3L in duals) 141 - #62 Richard Treanor - JR, 14W-15L, 1W-2L @ EIWA 149 - #28 Trae McDaniel - SO, 32W-11L, 4W-2L @ EIWA 157 - #36 Nathan Lukez - SR, 20W-14L, 0W-2L @ NCAAs 165 - #42 Dalton Harkins - JR, 18W-14L, 3W-3L @ EIWA 174 - #15 Ben Pasiuk - SR, 23W-7L, 1W-2L @ NCAA 184 - #94 Cole Karpinski - SO, 5W-7L, N/A (No dual starts) 197 - #103(184) Daniel Lawrence - SR, 12W-13L, 2W-3L @ EIWA 285 - #70 Austin Kohlofer - SO, 10W-8L, 2L-3L @ EIWA https://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/perma/663/campbell-vs-army-west-point I think this is favoring Army a bit unfairly in a few weights. I do think Zaccone at 133 and Rivera at 141 should be favored, despite the Wrestlestat algorythm favoring the other gent. On the other end of the spectrum I don't see Murphy beating Pasiuk at 174. I do think the Alaskan brothers Caleb and Levi Hopkins can push for bonus and that might be the separation that is needed for this. Add in the Ghadiali is one of my sleepers for AA at 285 and that he might push for bonus (deckfall anyone?) and I do think Campbell ends up taking this one. I will say one of the Hopkins gets the bonus, as does Pasiak. That puts it at 16-13 heading into the HWT match and Ghadiali gets the fall. Prediction: Campbell over Army 19-161 point

Snyder with a wicked ankle pick for two. Torres responds with a dramatic double for four. Go behind and two guts for Snyder. Now 8-4 USA. Second ankle pick that Snyder turns into a double and a leglace. 12-4. Break. USA up 12-4. Torres is an athlete, but still raw. Go behind after a bad Cuban shot, and Snyderman wins 14-4. USA!1 point

I saw the pictures of the refugee camp and have to wonder why a refugee camp was in the middle of the city. There are broken buildings all around that camp. When I think of a refugee camp, I think of an area outside of cities along borders etc. I'm not saying that it wasn't truly a refugee camp, but it is an odd place to put one. mspart1 point

Schunke is a preferred walk on currently. If he performs well, I’m sure he will get a scholarship but as of now he has no scholarship. Why wrestle instead of play football? Because wrestling is the greatest sport in the world!!!!1 point

Truly unbelievable that we have people in here advocating that you should only be able to leave an unhappy relationship if some third party finds you have met some arbitrary standard for leaving.1 point

You just cited the same person twice, who is apparently complaining that her husband divorced her against her will which started her whole crusade. The idea that people should be forced to stay in unhappy marriages is dumb, treats the person who wants out as property, and is ripe for abuse of the party seeking to end the marriage. We live in an allegedly free society. People should not be forced to stay in relationships they do not want to be in.1 point

I kind of like the reversal being worth more than the takedown based on how rare the reversal is because of how hard it is to execute. I am OK with the 3:1 ratio of takedown to escape. At a 2:1 ratio, the escape carried too much weight to my way of thinking. But as an alternative I would not mind keeping the 2:1 ratio if they added in a form of freestyle criteria. In that way a 2-2 match that featured 1 takedown versus 2 escapes would favor the wrestler with the takedown. It helps that I am a big fan of criteria. I love that someone is always trailing and is incentivized to attack. The end of tied freestyle matches are sooooooo exciting, while the end of tied folkstyle matches are soooooooo boring.1 point

I think it would be great to have some non-D1 guys out there competing at this event. There are a few handfuls who can go toe to toe with the D1ers. Missed opportunity here for NWCA.1 point

IMO, National Champs and All-Americans matter much more than NCAA team points. I would much rather be fan of a team with many AAs and than feeling good about my team finishing 7th or 8th in team points. I know of course, that the number of champs and AAs do align closely with team placement1 point
