Just a thought: In cycling, if you win Worlds, you get to wear the rainbow bands that year. Usually an all-white jersey with the rainbow bands across the chest and back. Past world champs (at that discipline and age level) are allowed to have jerseys with the bands on the cuff and collar. Very subdued but noticeable. Wrestling should do that. You might get these senior world champs to wrestle more if they got to show off a singlet with the world champion bands on an all-white top (red or blue bottom, of course). Here's some notes from the Nebraska wrestleoffs 125 Pat Smith 133 Vandee over Burwick 5-2ish score 141 Hardy no contest 149 Lovett looked very sharp 157 Probb, looked healthy, great to see! Won 20-1 165 Match of the day Antrell Taylor beats Bubba Wilson in double OT 174 Brown ton over Thebeau 184 Lenny Pinto over van tassel 197 Allred, looking even better than last year. Heavy weight no match, assuming its pentz job? Not 100 percent sure there. If Pentz fits in at heavy weight this looks like a top 5 roster that could qualify everyone and have around 7 potential AAs2 points

It is! Great kid! In one of his wrestle offs he had a kid shoot right in on his leg he had the procedure on and it didn't even phase him. Thank you!2 points

He was there walking around and hanging out with everyone. I know the 3 184s all wrestled each over two weeks ago. I would expect him to wrestle at the invite in two weeks. Last year Hawks didn’t wrestle at black n gold and was at the invite.2 points

It's also an issue of expectations. When most teams have an occasional 14th, nobody cares. When OSU has one (or two), it's noteworthy. The same would be true if Iowa got a 14th.2 points

Maybe. There should be quite a few interesting matchups... basically starting at 149 and all the way down are fire, save for 197. That said, Cal Poly has a lot of youth down low and could make this interesting if they swing a match (or two). They are the defending PAC 12 Dual Champions (They beat Arizona State last year...). Not sure if or what to expect of Kemp. I, for the sake of having fun with this, put him at 184. I think Rutgers takes the early matches fairly easily... but I don't think it's 12-0 as Wrestlestate projects. I think it'll be 10-0, though. It is possible we see a deck at one of these weights (141), though. I think the Cal Poly frosh make good of development and minimize the bonus output, though. I think Cal Poly takes the next two with wide Decisions to go in to the break down 10-6. Wick comes out and beats White at 165 and Priest also gets the job done at 174 (he is a gamer and we just don't know what version of Turley we're going to get here). That puts us at 184 with Cal Poly up 12-10. Kemp needs to beat Soldano. He has the pedigree and the speed... will he get it done, though? Yes. A healthy Kemp beats a more fundamentally sound/less go-for-broke Soldano in OT with a slick TD. 15-10 Cal Poly going in to the last two. Poz comes out and just demolishes whoever Cal Poly puts out... 20-4 Tech... in the first... wow... good feelings about Poz this year, gents. Comes down to HWT. For all the marbles. You might think being a home dual for Cal Poly, that it would help Tinker. It doesn't. I pretty workman like 13-3 Major for Slavikouski to close out the dual with a 19-15 Rutgers victory.1 point

Well if you read my post I did not comment on your engineering sausage fest point--not sure why you bring it up again other than to try and deflect or re-frame your "middle of nowhere" point. And umm...for the record, you were the one who initially brought up middle of nowhere comment--not @PortaJohn when you said "Could be that most dudes aren’t interested in a middle of nowhere sausagefest engineering school if they are going to already make the sacrifices necessary to be a D1 athlete?" But whatever man.....1 point

Close... There are actually three different events with similar names but different purposes / formats. 1) The Pan American Games, which, as mentioned above, happen every four years, contain multiple sports, and are like a mini-Olympics (currently underway in Santiago, Chile) 2) UWW Pan-American Championships, which happen every year (including Olympic years) and as far as I know are open to all member countries. Next up in Acapulco, Mexico Feb 21-25, 2024. These do not impact Olympic qualification. 3) UWW Pan-American Olympic Games Qualifier, which happens in Olympic years only and is open to any country that didn't qualify the weight via the prior year's UWW World Championships. Next up in Acapulco, Mexico Mar 1-3, 2024 (some sites say Feb 29 start). Top two finishers in each weight qualify. Any country that doesn't qualify the weight can go to the last-chance UWW World OG Qualifier in May 2024 in Istanbul.1 point

“Prosecutors are simply not in the habit of developing serious felony cases and then offering plea deals that amount to a legal “nothingburger” for the defendants involved. Even when trying to “flip” defendants to testify against others in the case, the normal prosecutorial practice is to still require some significant pain in the plea deal with cooperating defendants because if they don’t, then the defense lawyers for the defendants who go to trial can argue to the jury that the deals are so sweet they shouldn’t believe a word the flipped defendants are saying. That is not what is happening with the plea deals in Trump’s Georgia case, however. These deals with Powell, Chesebro, and Ellis are really, really sweet deals. Deals so sweet that no rational defense lawyer could advise the client to reject them.” https://1ft.io/proxy?q=https%3A%2F%2Fthefederalist.com%2F2023%2F10%2F28%2Fgeorgia-da-offers-nothingburger-plea-deals-to-build-parade-of-witnesses-for-later-show-trials%2F1 point

I appreciate your post, you've convinced me. As you said, Hamas will always kill Israelis in terrorist attacks because Israelis live where they currently live. So, yes, Israel 100% needs to remove Hamas from their position of authority in Gaza. There is no other logical option. This is purely dictated by logic, not from taking sides. The best we can hope for is for the number of casualties to be minimized. Especially civilians.1 point

No official score kept, limited room out of bounds, and running clock. Ref's were present this year but basically just practiced saying TD3 and talked about the rule changes and points of emphasis to the guys wrestling. The Gopher's coaches set the lineup based on early season open tournament results and past performance.1 point

There is nothing disingenuous about my question! I asked you a legit question and you're solution is literally to involve a terrorist organization at the table to negotiate peace. An organization who's backed by Iran who's entire political goal in the middle east is the destruction of Israel. If anyone is being disingenuous it's your Disney World solution.1 point

Minnesota doesn't do wrestle-offs, but they had simulated matches last night in the wrestling room. At the contested weights, Blaine Brenner seems to be the favorite at 165, and Garret Joles and Gabe Nagel pretty even at 197. The true freshman class looked outstanding, and while I don't see any of them starting, I expect most of them to get close to the allowed five competitions in.1 point

Not a T/F question. The IDF is responsibility for keeping the country safe and that is not as simple as always good or bad. The same is true for all militaries around the world. None are perfect, none are angels, none don't sometimes bend the truth. In times of war, it becomes even messier and more chaotic. War is ugly. War is awful. War is not a bastion of truth and responsibility. All wars consist mostly of pain and cruelty. Which is why we work so hard to avoid them. Before 10/7, there was no war. There is now. Hamas should not have brought this war upon themselves and the Palestinian people. Hamas didn't work hard to avoid it - they invited it. Nobody ever really wins in any war. There should be no special recognition for those that invite war. Other than guilt.1 point
