  2. Cmon, this is some weak ass sauce. If you don't want to alienate your sources inside the Iowa program, just say nothing rather than turn literalist interpreting that sad string of posts. Almost as priceless as "old ski town joke."

  3. I’m borrowing a bit from what others (Ugarles et alia) have posted on the Cornell forum (with RED tinted glasses): 125: Brett Ungar was a toenail away from winning his RO12 match this year; I think he makes it to the podium next year. 133: Vito – if he stays on track, he takes it all. Gotta wonder, though, if he’ll take off for an Olympic year, and if so – who fills in? Maybe Greg D?. 141: Vince Cornella showed flashes of brilliance this year, but also made some freshman mistakes. Next year he cleans things up – I expect low to mid level AA 149: It’s hard to say goodby to Yianni – but Meyer Shapiro may make that a little easier. He’s gonna be pretty good. 157: Cole Handlovic or Yapoujian? I’m leaning Handlovic, Yap seems to have struggled with injuries. Either way, I don’t see a lot of points at NCAAS here. 165: Ramirez – 27-5 this year, with some quality wins, but stumbled a bit at NCAA’s to finish short of the podium. I expect he’ll AA next year. 174: Foca – Made a big leap this season, 3rd place finish. I expect a finalist next year, maybe push Starrocci? 184 – Cornell faithful are hoping 2022 AA Jonny Loew is back and up to form next year – if so, another possible AA candidate 197: Jake Cardenas placed 8th in 2023, can he move up a notch or two in 2024? 285: Lewis Fernandes, who we hope stays healthy. Made it to R.O.12 in 2022, but out injured in 2023. Hoping he can make a comeback along with Jonny Loew. Cornell finished 3rd at NCAA’s with 5 AAs in 2023. They return four next season, and potentially can add several more. If they can stay healthy (I know, the big if for every team!) I think 2024 may be one of Cornell’s best teams ever.

  5. Josh Edmond of Mizzou wrestled at 149 lbs 2 years ago while Brock Mauller took a red shirt. Edmond was an NCAA qualifier that year as a freshman, wrestling up a weight. In 2023/24 Edmond will wrestle at 141 after redshirting himself last year. Looking forward to big things for Edmond. Very explosive!

  17. An assumption is Fisher would drop to 174. Fisher doesn’t look like a large 84 guy now but 10 pounds is a pretty big cut. Fisher is already preseason ranked at 84 and he’s likely going to be really good. If mehki does go 84, redshirt Stewart’s only option is to bump to 97 and try to beat out Smith. I don’t think we’ll see other weight changes for VT. True freshman Sasso could also try to take Smith’s spot at 97. As good as he’s projected to be, it’s tall task for a true freshman to match grown man strength at 97. Heck, 3 time AA Haught got manhandled as a redshirt at 97 until he grew into the weight and hit the weights for a couple years

  18. What would be more instructive is to take the budget and see where the cuts can be made. 2023, we are projected to take in $4.8T in revenue. Is there no way possible to live within that amount? Of course there is but no one wants to make that decision. Just spend more and more and you get to where we are now. It makes everyone feel good to spend more, but the time comes where that isn't possible anymore. We are ruining our currency to the point that the world wants another default currency and are looking to China. That's certainly something we don't want. https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/2023/05/16/china-yuan-renminbi-us-dollar-currency-trade/ mspart

  21. I’m with you, never did I think Jacques would beat Keegan, but Keegan himself has said several times that Jacques indeed beat him for the 157 his first year in the wrestle off, thus the move. Maybe that was the plan all along, but I’ll have to take him at his word he indeed lost. I’m not a top of the line donator either, so we are in the same boat. I do hope you win that lottery soon, loved to see us battling it out with PSU.

  22. The Two Party System is the greatest threat to America. Unaffiliated. What a great word. We need LOTS more of this. For anyone old enough to vote in 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, whom did you vote for? The candidate I voted for in those 4 elections did NOT have an R or a D after his name and got a whopping 2%, 4%, etc. A vote for either of the clowns they will prop up in front of us in 2024 is meaningless.

  25. He lost to guys they beat, more or less. Also, I think that he is a 174lber naturally so the grind of heavier and stronger guys got to him towards the end of the season. It isn't like if Salazar at Minny decided to head up to 197... he would still be jacked or if VT's Lewis goes up to 184... he would also be jacked then. Harman didn't grow in to 184.

  26. Bryce is good and arguably the most exciting wrestler in the country but I think it would quite him best to stay at 157. I don’t think he has the size or physical strength at this point to knock off the top 165 guys. He’s a legit title contender at 157 and probably doesn’t AA at 165.

  27. Navy has some good guys coming off redshirt , Danny Wask is the big one he ll be 157 I think , they also have Evan Tallamadge a NJ state champ whose cousins with the Santielllos and I thought they had also had a heavyweight recruit too but I can’t remember who or find anything on it

  28. Mocco is KOT best friend, and they’ve wrestled together since he was young according to Keegan. He’s already forced Mocco to move up once. He initially wrestled off and lost to Jacques at a freshman at 157. Mocco was at 165 the year prior. After losing he went 165 and Mocco moved up to 174. Doubtful Mocco can make 165 now, and Keegan most likely don’t want to push Mocco out of the lineup his last year. I do think we see KOT move up to 174, but next year at the earliest.

  29. Well there’s no doubt that Zane Richards has improved. However unless Gilman has an off day, I don’t see Zane winning. I think that Gilman just has more tools in his arsenal. I do think though that Gilman will probably move on to something else after the 2024 Olympics. But I thought for sure that Burroughs was going to hang’em up after 2020, and as we all know, he still at it. So who knows what Gilman will do.

  35. I see nominally five qualifiers and two placers. Hamiti and Amos are the two placers. Hamiti as a 'should be' 3rd is highly inaccurate. He is 0-3 against Amine, 0-2 against Griffith, 0-1 against O'Toole, and 0-1 against Carr. If you are going to say 'should be' then 4th is the highest that he 'should be' come NCAAs since one of Amine or Griffith are going up to 174. I believe Amos has a peak of mid-AA as well. I would welcome being surprised. I don't see how you see a Top 10 finish here with those expectations.

  39. 125 - Kilkeary/McCrone - Malik is done and Gonzales is too big according to Tom. McCrone (RSFR) was a 15-4 RS and probably gets to go, at the start anyway. No idea how Kilkeary will do, but he's a quality recruit, three timer out of Latrobe and if he's better we know Ryan will start a freshman. 133 - Bouzakis/Gonzales - This will be Bouzakis' (RSFR) weight. He was 11-1 as a RS. Beat #6 Biscoglia(UNI) only loss up at 141 to Crook(VT). U20 WT member. AA 141 - Mendez/D'Emilio - It sounds like Mendez is going to RS and junior D'Emilio will be here. Although if Sasso moves up, D'Emilio might follow. I believe the weight cut for both is a struggle. He was 20-14 last season but came on at the end and finished 8th. AA 149 - Sasso/D'Emilio - What Sasso (SR) does here will decide what happens at 141, 149, 157 and impact 165. I believe Sasso can win at 149(no slight to Lovett who returns from RS). Sammy struggled with the cut early in the season and then looked great when it mattered. He was 29-3. Sasso wins at 149. NC 157 - Sasso/Paddy/Wilcox - If Gallagher (SO) is here I foresee a similar season to last year. He improved towards the end of the season and if he can finish his shots he'll be in a much better position to win those close matches he lost. He lost ten matches by two points or less. If Sasso moves up, Paddy nor Wilcox (JR) may not have a spot. R12 165 - Hepner/Paddy - I believe this is Hepner's (RSSO) spot. Had wins over Kharchla (wrestle off) and Amine (I know, I know coming off an injury) last season. Had some nice wins season before; Mayora, Lamar, Chumbley, Slivka. I like Hepner and I think he surprises a bunch of folks. R12 174 - Kharch - (JR) Weight cut and injuries had Carson hamstrung most of last season. He just wasn't what we expected. I was worried it was HEW and I'm still not 100% convinced. 174 should help make life a bit better for him. Healthy and happy he's back on the podium. AA 184 - Shumate - (RSFR) Seth was a big recruit that many folks have cooled on. He was 12-2 wrestling unattached last season. If Geog stays at 197 I believe this spot belongs to Shumate. NQ 197 - Geog/Hoffman/Stein - Similar to 157/165 someone gets left out. I like Geog (RSFR) and I'm ready to see him as a starter. But there is Hoffman (SR) here as well. I don't see anyway Stein makes the lineup. Talk of Geog dropping to 184 and Hoffman at 197 seems ideal but I'm pretty certain Geog is too big to go down. NQ 285 - Feldman - (RSFR) Buckeye fans have been waiting for Nick for a long time it seems. Injury and then neck surgery held him out of 2023. He's going to be, "small" for a HVY but he's built like an armoire was an U20 WT member, Jr. Hodge trophy winner, number three overall recruit and number one heavyweight recruit in 2022. I believe he'll adjust okay to big guys while hitting some bumps along the way. AA I want to believe OSU will gain the points lost from Smith and Romero and a RS Mendez with Kharch, Bouzakis and Feldman. An AA from D'Emilio and maybe a run from Paddy and/or Geog hopefully get the Buckeyes back on the podium.

  44. Six-time world and Olympic champion John Smith became familiar with pain during his sensational freestyle career. He suffered from broken fingers, sprained ankles, torn rib cartilage, a separated shoulder, damaged knee ligaments, cauliflower ears, and extremely painful hip pointers. But Smith knew, as do other high-achieving wrestlers, that injuries are part of the game and that a wrestler must learn to live with them and block them out. While covering the 1988 Olympics for the Chicago Tribune, writer John Husar captured what winning a gold medal can cost a wrestler like John Smith. “His nose had been broken Tuesday by the Bulgarian and Smith said he had never bled so much,” wrote Husar. “His bent and stubby fingers that had been broken four or five times apiece were jammed anew and swollen, and his right shoulder was crying for arthroscopic surgery. But none of that hurt as much, he said, as the rawness on his backside, where he wore away the skin sitting nightly in his rubber suit on the stationary bike.” “‘Aw, it’s nothing, really,’ he assured a knot of incredulous re-porters. ‘All athletes go through this type of stuff. Aches and pains come with sport. You’ve just gotta adapt to ’em’” (Husar 1988, 12). Adapt he did, and again in 1992, when he was searching for his second Olympic gold medal. This time, Smith was facing a different type of injury. “I had a staph infection hit me in January and it tore me up,” said Smith in 2004. “My whole head was swollen, and I had bald spots on my head, too. It just gradually got worse. I suffered from fatigue. After just 15 minutes of drilling, I would be exhausted. “During some practices, it felt like my head was going to explode. It took everything I had to mentally get through the Olympic trials and the Olympics. It would have been easy for some guys to just walk away at that point, to settle for something less. But I couldn’t do that. “I remember writers coming up and acting surprised that I could keep going, and I thought, ‘What’s the big deal? It comes with the territory.’ I’ve just always assumed injuries are part of the game.” In that respect, he was akin to Dan Gable, who entered the 1972 Olympics in Munich with a severely damaged left knee. In the first match, Gable’s foe from Yugoslavia headbutted him, opening a gash that required seven stitches to close. “Sure, it hurt,” said Gable years later. “But so what? The point of wrestling is that it hurts and you overcome that. It never occurred to me that it wasn’t supposed to hurt.” Pain is part of the game at the highest levels. The finest athletes have learned to accept it and to ignore it, in many respects
