For me the bigget stallers are: Glory Arujau Alirez Diakomihalis Haines O'Toole Starocci Brooks Bonnacorsi Parris4 points

She banged her off the mat intentionally. I don't believe she was trying to can her.3 points

Based on that video I don't think it was intended that way.3 points

Maybe Facundo should transfer. His fan base sends a lot of negativity his way and now he's been recruited over. God forbid you don't win a national title as a freshman3 points

When Amine and Lewan scrimmage do they just stand and look at each other for 2 hours in the Michigan room? The two most boring wrestlers to wrestle back to back in any lineup ever. Yet they both have AA'd the last two years so until the rules/referees make them change this is what they will do. I am too lazy to do the research but I believe they both have more stalling calls than takedowns in the past 2 years and especially so in their Big 10/NCAA tournament runs. Same for having more escapes than takedowns.2 points

You missed the punchline, sorry. While I would enjoy more top wrestling I agree. The joke is the OP actually making this thread.2 points

I don’t see it. Going into college, he was a junior world champion and seemed likely to win world/Olympic gold medals. Year after year he was sent out there on one good leg and now I’d be surprised if he makes a world team. Is there any doubt his prospects are worse now than they were prior to college?2 points

I would argue that, as long as we have riding time, no top wrestling should ever be considered stalling. It's all offense to earn/secure the riding time point.2 points

Ironic that the thread is entitled "worst stallers" and all the replies list the best stallers. Case in point - Dan Dennis; the kid never stalled in his career, so when he needed that skill set in the last 30 seconds of the NCAA finals, he had no ideal how to stall correctly. Make no mistake - stalling and not getting called for it is a learned skill.2 points

Do not know how you watch that video and think Labriola was joking - seems like a heartfelt comment on his gratitude for his coaches. Something special in many wrestler-coach relationships and it is nice to see that expressed. I am not much a fan of sticking a mic in front of wrestlers in the first few seconds they get off the mat, but this one seemed to work.2 points

Really? You might not have agreed with his choice, but you don't understand the motivation?2 points

Not the US Open but perhaps a precursor - Blades and Welker set to wrestle a best of three at women's U20s today.2 points

Honestly I thought this thread was a joke so I was just going for ridiculousness. You saw who the OP was right?2 points

Washington needs more programs. They have produced some tough kids over the years and not too long ago their schoolboy teams were placing high or winning national duals titles. They have at least 15 kids off the top of my head wrestling D1... and they have had a lot of kids go to lower programs as well. This is a great opportunity for someone.2 points

You forgot to mention Iowa. Every transfer conversation on the board has to include PSU, Iowa, OK State and ASU. It's a board rule. It's in section 5 of the handbook.2 points

Personal vote: Indianapolis should host the NCAA championship. If you've ever been for an event, you understand how connected and easily walkable the downtown area is. Hotels, restaurants, bars, nightlife, gathering spots. The downtown was built to host events. Now, Indianapolis also has to want the wrestling championship, but you would have a really hard time finding a better host city.2 points

I just listened to Nagao’s Basch interview. Between the God talk, college wrestling goals, freestyle wrestling goals, MMA goals…I’d guess there’s about a 98% chance he’s going to PSU. Random note I thought it was odd how he kept referring to it as “opening up the portal” like we’re in a science fiction movie.1 point

Ryan Deakin, Hayden Hidlay (at 157) & Sam Latona (at both 125 & 133) are a few others that have always looked massive to me.1 point

At first I read this and was like oh he’s listing all the national champs (slight chuckle in my head). Then, I was like, wait… why is Haines on there?! Took me second and then I literally LOLed! Well done.1 point

I think the consensus is that she is just better. Last time when Welker won, Kennedy had tuned her up pretty good a few weeks before, but Kennedy was fresh off being knocked out in the semifinals or something? She got rocked hella hard against Welker too.1 point

Fact. Kemp didn’t win his last 110 bouts. Fact. Kemp wasn’t unbeaten in his last 110 bouts. That what I commented on and that’s what I clarified based on your posting of an inaccurate stat. Argue it all you want. I’m done repeating myself. All Star didn’t become an exhibition until 2004.1 point

It’d be amazing if Iowa was going after him, he will slot perfectly after Kennedy. Plus if Angelo commits with his brothers to Iowa, Angelo has ties with him right ? @Laxhawk1741 point

Me too. I don't think he was thinking about insulting or joking about anything right there. To be honest...I'd laugh if I thought he was as it just gets a little tired. I also loved the handshake as well, but I think he was just saying, they get the credit. It's always possible he's got a REALLY dry sense of humor...1 point

Blades 8-6. Welker tuned out up 6-4 with seconds remaining and lost.1 point

could be it's just @LJB's preferred style... e.e. cummmings wasn't much for capitalization or punctuation... seems to like to end one-liners with an ellipsis... though that could signal an incomplete thought... might be nodding off while typing... one can always feel free to fill in the blanks by reading between the lines... LJB leaves white space to do so...1 point

What are you on about? Expansion has very little to do with sports or how good their 'teams' are. It is all about money and marketability. The reason the ACC is a more stable conference is because of how their membership contracts are written. The ACC has made it so ridiculously expensive and complicated to leave ever since Maryland got scooped up. The B12 is losing their two most valuable assets very soon. That doesn't scream stability does it?1 point

The state of Indiana has a big wrestling fan base. Not that holding the championship there makes any difference. Travel, lodging, food, etc, would not create any problems. Holding the event in the football facility or NBA facility would be an option. I personally would prefer the basketball facility. But the city of Indianapolis could put on a good event. As they have with all the other national and international events hosted there.1 point

He never actually gave himself the time to heal properly. I never thought such a focus on the NCAA results over long term health made much sense.1 point

Lol at the hate. C Star 3 time champion stalls...lmao. 1. Villalonga 2. Beckman 3. Perry 4. Ortega 5. Heil1 point

If he gets hit for stalling could he not just cut his opponent and get another takedown? Starrocci is probably the last guy I’m cheering for in NCAA’s but he’s very capable in neutral and has no problem getting away. He isn’t squeaking out a bunch of wins by RT.1 point

So you cheated and coached your kids to cheat too? Where do you coach at so I can report you to your local state high school athletic association?1 point

The wrist isn't necessary anymore. That's my point. He can just explode thru turns without having to hold anybody on their back, which I think is by far more tiring. It plays into his explosion and fast twitch muscles.1 point

ALSO agree, that Lee Kemp was a great one that didn't get to wrestle in the Olympics (multiple WC under his belt.) My Dad and I saw his NCAA finals @ Princeton in '75, where he lost by Ref dec. in OT to Chuck Yagla (we thought that Lee was the winner in that match... THAT close on becoming the NCAA's first 4 X'er!) D31 point

Pac-12 is currently trying to negotiate a new deal with ESPN and Fox for media rights. They are also discussing a separate deal with CW for games not picked up by ESPN and Fox. The hope is that the new deal will keep Oregon and Washington in the fold. The Pac-12 has shot themselves in the foot so many times they are in a wheelchair. I foresee them becoming the "castaway" conference.1 point

I understand why the natives are getting defensive about the Tulsa. It was fine. But if you ask us to compare it to other NCAA host cities, then you will get compared to Cleveland, Philly, StL, KC next year, etc. Overall it is not a knock on your city, but there are things that are not on par with other recent host cities. It doesn't mean there wasn't any good food or drink options, just not as many or convenient as others. The arena certainly needs a upgrade. If it goes back to Oklahoma, OKC in 2014 was better in my opinion than Tulsa.1 point

Nah, he speaks quite clearly and speaks quickly to keep up with pace of the match without having to slow down the video. These posts are all extremely well done. If you can't keep up, use your personal settings to slow down the stream for you.1 point
