Jessie Whitmer 1997 champ for Iowa his senior year at 118. Prior to that he was a spot starter behind 4 x AA Mike Mena.5 points

Hopke is in the gopher practice room 4x a week. Good buddies with Gavin Nelson and family. Hoping we can land him but can never count out Cael. Believe he’s considering Wisconsin heavily as well. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I believe Jake Bergeland was a senior last year when he won the starting spot for the first time and AA’d. But he also got a free Covid year and thus competed this year as well.3 points

Ignorance is ignorance. You should move on from this subject. Your ass is showing. I invite you to discuss this further via private messaging if you like.3 points

A ) You understand that you are merely showing your interpretation of a very toxic choice from your own mindset, correct? B ) I am a black man who grew up during the most violently racist time in Detroit's history - IN DETROIT. GTFOH3 points

New Flo article on Hopke's Recruitment. Hard to find better practice partners than Minnesota with McEnelly and Nelson coming in, plus Brandvold and the last two world teamers Zillmer and Steveson. When Will Koy Hopke Make His College Commitment? - FloWrestling He is listed as 6'2" in his football profiles and weighed in at 229 the day he wrestled Schunke.2 points

Agreed, wouldn't be shocked to see Ferrari surpass Siebrecht at 157 if Chittum gets down to 149. If not, maybe should redshirt. People are emphasizing that Chittum went up a weightclass in a recent tournament, but maybe he just doesn't want to cut weight or go on a strict diet for 7 months? I think its tbd but some people are aggressively claiming he goes 157 next year2 points

Not to toot my own horn, but I really don’t think anybody can say it any better than this:1 point

Gavin Nelson absolutely intends on going 197. HWT is a pretty big hole in MN. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

A ) He is referring to his story, not to me, so that is the 2nd time you are taking something out of it's context and assuming toxic shit. B ) Move on, dipshit.1 point

The covid year doesn't count as part of the eligibility clock. So, everyone who was in school then has a 6 year clock instead of the normal 5. Some, like Taylor Lamont just completed their 7th year because of an additional medical shirt.1 point

Guys not cutting weight during redshirt or greyshirt seasons is not uncommon. I also, personally, think he's a 157, but it's not out of the realm of possibility.1 point
-
For a guy training with the HWC and not wrestling Folkstyle in sort of a Greyshirt scenario. Maybe he was just focused on wrestling, getting better and not cutting a bunch of weight? Not sure why you're so adamant he has to be 157. He very well could be, but a lot of people close to the program don't know definitively one way or the other.1 point

I guess we'll see at the Open. ...and Gable absolutely has another year of college wrestling, if he chooses to use it.1 point
-
I think there are two options for success. One is to create a persona that catches on with their dumb audience. The other is to be absolutely massive like Lesnar or some others, which is in itself a persona. Gable doesn’t have either of those. What he does have is being an elite athlete and incredible wrestler, which doesn’t matter for WWE and seems to matter less than ever for UFC.1 point

Logan Paul is now the main draw in WWE. Ferrari obviously won’t me be in it, but my point is he would have excelled.1 point

Apparently Michigan has offers out to both Cannon and DeAuggie on one end and Griffith on the other end. Michigan is going to be a big player in NIL.1 point

I’m not sure how I feel, to be honest. I really like Gavin Nelson and Max McEnelly at 84/97, along with the potential to add Hopke they could be a lethal trio. The retention of some of the top recruits in the low/mid weights leaves a lot to be desired though. Robideau on the horizon as an elite in-state recruit but he’s only a sophomore in high school. I am biased but I have high hopes for Vance Vombaur, Drew Roberts and Tagen Jamison in the 141-149 range. The key priorities right now - do all that you can to keep Nagao, Spratley, and land Hopke. Get 2 out of those 3 I’ll be happy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

At least before the covid rule changes, a year away from school is treated as the same as a red-shirt. Assuming the five calendar years to complete four eligibility years still applies with a plus one for both numbers (6 to complete 5), then this would be Steveson's last chance to compete in the NCAA, I believe.1 point

Not being a fanatic of the Bob Dole doesn't equate to hating any Bob Dole. I am indifferent to all Bob Doles, that I am aware of.1 point

For the last 8 seasons, I always thought it was going to be Manville from PSU. Think he should have another few years left to prove me wrong.1 point

No, it wasn't. He was unattached at the Edinboro Open, the first 5 matches of that season. He first wrestled the 8th vs Columbia and then wrestled Cornell on the 9th, weighing in back to back days for his first two matches of the year. So not his first, his second, the first weekend...the point remains. They wrestled twice and Richard didn't score an offensive point in either match. Kolodzik dominated the action and... And the familiarity comes into place because they're two guys...in the same conference and Kolodzik was a 3X AA at the time. Same as Brands and Starocci for example. I don't believe they've wrestled before.1 point
-
No, I don't think you're wrong. A couple programs have a lot to offer in terms of crowd size, but the first College Wrestling match, I remember just...silence. My HS was about 10X more enthusiastic at that point. But that's on the schools to try and get students out for the matches, maybe give out free tickets if they're not selling enough. Just something so you don't feel like you're wrestling in an empty gym where you can hear everyone clear their throat... I envy the Iowa Wrestlers. That's the best environment to Wrestle...even if I think Iowa fans are a bit much at times!1 point

A mindset that considers empathy and sensitivity, sure. I believe some black men from Detroit can be sensitive to black men from the deep south. I pointed that it sounded racist AF and stand by that. The fact that you doubled-down not reflecting on your poor word choice says enough.1 point

So basically a tactical nuke then, yeah? Kid already looks like an absolute animal. If he fills out to 6'4/5" and keeps that speed he is going to be lethal at the International level.1 point

i feel compelled to say this... my younger son has had his ass kicked all over this country and this planet... luke is hands down the best wrestler he has ever been beat down by... more importantly, luke comes from one the best families i have ever encountered in this game... if you all want someone to get behind, this is the kid...1 point

College wrestling is no longer a team competition. PSU has the title wrapped up for the next decade or more. It's participation trophies and hoping your team can get a individual champ for all the have nots.1 point

Not diminishing the ‘83 team’s dominance but the B1G performance needs a little context. This is before Penn State and others had joined. Iowa was the only B1G team in top 10 at NCAA tournament that year. There were no NCAA finalists from the B1G besides Iowa wrestlers, and only 6 other AAs.1 point
