  1. Some respect. It was a polo, and Charles Hallahan wore the **** out of it.

  2. Not necessarily talking about the greatest wrestlers, but the greatest, most exciting, most memorable matches. I'm having a tough time thinking of good ones outside of NCAAs because the stakes are so high, but I imagine many here will have some better ideas 125 Mills vs. Gonzales (1979 NCAA finals) 133 Ironside vs. Kolat (1996 All Star Classic) 141 Owings vs. Gable (1970 NCAAs) 149 Marianetti vs. McIlravy (1995 NCAAs) 157 Jenkins vs. Taylor (2011 NCAAs) 165 Hendricks vs. Churella (2006 NCAAs) 174 Martin vs. Nickal (2016 NCAAs) 184 Rohn vs. Lambrecht (2002 NCAAs) 197 Kilgore vs. Foster (2011 NCAAs) 285 Cassar vs. Steveson (2019 NCAAs)

  3. That's where I sit on these. Regarding Schultz, it's tough to keep the consensus #2 match of all time off of this list. mspart

  4. Guys should watch David Carr & KOT if they want to learn how to win & lose with class and humility.

  6. So Iowa will have Teske, Schriever, Canon, and Bouzalis at 133 next year? Cool beans.

  7. Thank you. I easily spent well over 2 minutes on it, and nobody gave me any credit until you. Appreciate that.

  10. I feel betrayed. We could have had Mason Parris vs. a 7'1" Russian in this year's finals. https://theathletic.com/4350038/2023/03/27/fau-vladislav-goldin-russia-final-four/

  11. Seeing a social media post (obsessed wrestler) about a Ben Affleck and Matt Damon produced movie about Anthony Robles. Is this real? If so, pretty cool!! Will he play himself? Hard to find someone that can match him body and skill wise!!

  12. Given that he couldn’t make 67kg/147.7 (65kg + 2kg allowance for Ranking Series events) for a single weekend, he’s not making 149 anytime soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Him taking the Final X route would make him go 92 which is not what he wants this year. Big decision for him to make here that's for sure. mspart

  15. The old building VMI used to wrestle in, Cocke Hall aka the Thunderdome, was one of the most unique experiences I've ever seen. Ancient old building with overhangs and it got loud in there. Compact and awesome. They have a new facility now, but the old one had some mystique to it.

  17. After years of my HS finishing second at the state tournament (and in some cases, it wasn't close to some of those monster Grundy teams Kevin Dresser had), a friend of mine said, "It's easy to win with class. It takes a while to learn how to lose with class." Not sure how real it is or who came up with it, but that always kinda stuck with me. I want to know how our best act at their worst moments sometimes.

  18. If we are talking about these guys at their apex here are a few more that should be considered: John Smith (wrestled 134 in college so would slot into the 141 spot currently), Tom Brands (wrestled 134 in college so would slot into the 141 spot currently), Dan Gable (wrestled 137 so would slot into the 141 or 149 spot)

  19. I mean, McGee is...and they do have similar color uniforms. There are other...minor differences in appearances, but I guess if you have no idea who Mckee is, you could make that mistake!

  20. I agree with this...to a point. If...for the sake of argument, he and David Carr each go undefeated next year, have similar records and Starocci acts like a douche, I'm gonna vote for Carr. Starocci didn't do anything to disqualify himself IMO. I'd prefer a guy get on the mat, run off the mat after kicking someone's ass without the contrived Metcalf like fake nonsense, but it's College Wrestling and emotions get involved. As long as it doesn't escalate past the "hold me back" bullshit, fine. But man, he'd do himself a LOT of favors by just shutting up.

  21. They still are a good wrestling family. Nathan Desmond (2x PIAA AAA champ) is the son of Sara Ciasulli Desmond. A lot of athletic talent in that family - her daughter, Nicole, is an elite-level gymnast, who recently competed in a qualifier for the Junior World team. Their youngest son competed in the PJW States last weekend.

  22. Let's not lose focus on the fact that this post is dumb on a whole other level, too. As much as I HATE the lazy, copycat, way over used "I enjoyed the ____era", the point of this hackneyed bit is to take a shot at something or someone you feel was over-hyped who then failed to live up to the perceived hype. Dragging out this fantastically unoriginal trope right after your target just achieved massive success is deliciously stupid.

  23. Politicians have been proven to be mostly weasels, across the board, both parties. No backbone. It's too bad that a wrestler has joined that rank of weasel. It's a damn shame. Must be no fight left in him.

  28. How out of touch with reality must Starocci be to think he was seriously in the running for the Hodge?

  29. Haha wow didn't know it was done by Seth. Ciasullis were a good wrestling family. His father started RedHawk wrestling club

  34. HOW did it not resemble commotio cortis? He was hit by a 6'4 220LB WRer in the chest as he lunged forward. That is EXACTLY the scenario in which that occurs. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/damar-hamlin-updates-bills-gathering-medical-advice-on-safetys-future-playing-professional-football/ I have to ask...not being a cardiologist myself, and operating under the assumption that you MUST be one given your absolute certainty about what DIDN'T cause it(likely because you believe you know what DID...that'd be fair to say, right?)... This is pretty much the ONLY thing some people want to talk about and give their opinions on... However, I presume he's not a patient of yours correct? It seems like it'd be in bad taste to offer an opinion on his current health(that contradicts his own from months ago) or his future health in that case).

  35. And after all this - I still think it was great that Yianni and Vito stayed the course - and both planning to stick around at the RTC for a while. I'm looking forward to seeing what both can doon the world stage!

  36. Well, as it turns out, what the source wrote doesn't match what the person said. Even for someone like you, that should be kind of important...

  37. You continually post stuff from sources that are found to routinely lie. If you have better sources saying the same thing, why you the source with historically poor veracity.

  38. lmao? Wow, imagine how everyone would have felt if he simply said "congrats" and left it at that. Lets hope the wrestling fans forget this as quickly as they seem to have forgotten about what Brooks said.

  40. In my best LJB impression... "them" - the opposite of "us"... They must be bad, since we are clearly good... I've done the research; Hunter Hilary's email laptop server is where the answers will be found.

  41. They also have a guy coming in from Detroit Catholic Central (Same HS as the Gilchers, Amines, Rojas, etc) from Michigan in Drew Heethus. He flies under the radar but has basically only lost to Braeden Davis (Dundee/Penn State - same HS as Swiderski, Buell) and Drew Horwath (Michigan/Davison - same HS as Metcalf, Reader, Facundo, Barr). I believe he even beat Horwath. He went 132 for team purposes and should have no issue being a 125lber if McGowen is going to go 133. I have high hopes that it will be a nice 1-2 punch.

  42. Agreed. Any objective observer could see Parris should have won the Hodge this year. I'm glad the votes reflected that, even if you eliminate the fan vote. I'd probably have Starocci No. 2 on my ballot, but Parris was the more impressive and dominant wrestler this year.

  43. I'm glad they took the completely subjective "Sportsmanship" (or was it heart?) out of it. If you're the best wrestler that year, and you're a jackass, that shouldn't disqualify you from winning something that's based on results that season. News flash, not every Hodge winner from the past is of high moral/ethical fiber or high character people. That's just the nature of people. If Starocci has the stats to validate the #1 next year for this, I'll have no qualms putting him on the #1 line.
