Kennedy Blades cuts her hair short and wrestles as Ken Blands for ASU at 174 lbs. She makes it to the semis, where she meets Carter Starocci. In the middle of the match, Cael and company figure out that she is an interloper and imposter. Starocci goes nuts and is disqualified for bad mouthing her and the officials. Blands (aka Blades) makes the final and ESPN ratings go through the roof for the match, which overshadows both Yianni's and Lee's attempts to win 4. Starocci quits Penn State and decides his revenge will be to "wrestle like a girl" at the Olympics in the 76KG weight. His new name will be Cartier StarLight. Inter-gender wrestling is born ... or re-born. Andy Kaufman smiles and winks from the Great Beyond.2 points

Max Dean visits Bosley Hair Club and shows up at BIG10s with a Fabio-doo. He loses his only two matches at BIG10s. Cael shaves everybody else's head before NCAAs, but Dean refuses. Dean loses his only two matches at NCAAs, but PSU still has 6 champs and sets a new team points record. Cael waxes and polishes his head for the team pic. Kind of a reverse Samson thing. Beard wins 197.2 points

If Stieber's cut didn't go particularly well, you could see a gas-off in this scenario2 points

Surprised and disappointed you don't have a picture of Mikey Carr dissecting the bracket.2 points

I still have the Gmail addresses for those who took part last year. I believe I sent login info (email & initial password) to everyone via PM on the old forum. I can send Gmail addresses to everyone again, but I didn't keep a record of the initial passwords. Entry fee last year was $20 via Venmo. I'll leave it to Vak to set rates and guidelines for this year's event. I suggest folks pay Vak & send me their Gmail address. I'll add give them access to the doc for the draft. If you need help setting up a Gmail account, PM me and I'll create one & return PM you the login info. Once Vak has the final list of participants, I can set everything up for the draft & I can track/publish results after each session.2 points

2021 is a bad year to use…that was the year they were forced to use historical data due to the truncated season.1 point

Stieber on his feet was just as good and had a better tank. Spencer has marginal edge on top. Best common opponent (per se) may be Nato, and Nato is on record stating how Stieber controlled him. Edge: stieber. Note. If wrestling 10 matches, Lee may take 2-4 matches, but I have Stieber1 point

Right. There's WAAAY too much context needed. Lets say...hypothetically, Taylor turns it around and catches Dake in a cradle and wins a 1 point match. Does Dake no longer belong in the convo? In fact, I think Lincoln McCllarvy belongs in the conversation. I enjoy these debates(in any sport) as long as it doesn't turn into bullshit about knocking another Wrestler down rather than advocating for one Wrestler. For example, Stieber. I hear a lot of people try Oliver had the TD. He didn't. It was a point of emphasis that year, that EXACT position. Had to get your head out and/or be above the ankles. It'd be a TD now, argue it was a bad rule, but it was something the refs covered that year repeatedly(which is why you see a pretty subdued John Smith given the situation).1 point

I really enjoy some of these Daryl Hall at home performances. Really hoping to see something with Hall and Robert Fripp soon. Their Sacred Songs and Exposure collaborations are fantastic.1 point

meh... my only real concern starts and ends with the product as it relates to the athletes... the boys have had no complaints concerning that, so, i don't really give the rest much thought...1 point

PAC 12 and others getting only one person at a weight, seems not right. Maybe at large takes care of any inequities. But doesn't seem right to me. They should take top 2 at the least. mspart1 point

I get it. I'm not complaining or unappreciative. There isn't really a right answer. The chart is still very interesting. 100% was just a curious metric to me. It removes from the conversation a guy who got 100% minus one match and replaces him with guys who have multiple career losses or guys who most people wouldn't even mention as in contention to be the best of all time. I should've only mentioned it if I could give you a better metric.1 point

If I expand the list to those who won 3 of 4 or 2 of 3 and those who never lost at the NCAA tournament but did not win the max due to injury, that adds another 82 names to the list. Obviously we can do better than that. We have nominations for Dan Gable, Gable Steveson, Jason Nolf (if you nominate him don't you have to include Nickal too?), Kyle Snyder, and any other Olympic/World Champ (I cannot think of any others not already on the list).1 point
-
Correct. Dan Gable was a for sure 3 timer until he wasn't. Conversations like these are premature. We can point to 3 timers going for their 4th and say each one was successful. Until one of them isn't. I think Lee will do it, but that does not make it so. He has to go out and earn it. Hopefully he stays healthy and can give it the old college try. Him having the GOAT talk show is also premature and stupid in my opinion. But that is just my opinion. mspart1 point

Now for something important. Women's draws. https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Wrestling/Features/2023/February/23/Womens-draw-for-Egypt Tough two opening matches https://arena.uww.org/weight-category/show/1edb381c-a0fd-6a2c-becd-abf04b58a124/bracket/print1 point

I'd agree that it would be pretty difficult to be the greatest of all time with a loss but eliminating those athletes from the conversation all together doesn't seem right. Dan Gable had one and only one loss, so he doesn't even make the list of the greatest of all time? Doesn't seem right.1 point

This stuff is probably written by some student intern (no idea, just a wild guess). I've noticed that roster bios are not incredibly well proofread across the board, but in particular for Illinois. That said, sometimes high school competition is referred to as "state finals" like the final leg of the state series. Not great in wrestling because we see the finals as the championship bout of an elimination tournament.1 point

I talked to a close friend with the NWHOF (my turn to use an acronym)....and they said subtract 600 from the capacity due to needed floor space, contributing to the fact I'm in the upper bowl after 43 NCAA's/37 in a row.....smh. BUT I'm with 6 other guys so that was a big factor. That's OK....still the best time of year ....Big 10 for a huge warmup then the big dance...."March Matness ©".....I'm laying claim to coining the phrase many years ago, after sitting in establishments between sessions (with my former team mate S. B.*) stuck watching basketball with the commentators saying March Madness. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. *my 2nd acronym..lol1 point
