  2. How about a new business model. When I agree to pay for a new year of Flo I also at that point in time sit down and watch 2 hours of non stop Flo commercials so when it is time to watch wrestling I can actually watch WRESTLING!!

  5. There are sooooo many complaints about Wrestlestat's Elo (and they are not necessarily unfounded), but can we show some Wrestlesat love? Holy crap, they even have detailed records for junior college wrestlers. Great job, Wrestlestat. Now about those Elos...

  6. I've got complaint #14,775 about Flo - and this is not a problem that is tech related, just a case of sheer ineptitude. When I want to watch a replay of a match that interests me (in this case at the S Scuffle), I don't want to be be told who won it while attempting to find the replay. Flo commits this inane sin at all the tournaments it carries. As you attempt to find, say, the 157 final you will see a thumbnail for a video with a caption saying something like "Franek talks about toughing out Scuffle victory" right by the thumbnail for the video of the match. Nothing better than seeing the final score before watching the game! They did this at the OTT and every other time I have not watched live but looked forward to watching the matches to see who won. Clueless.

  7. This is great news. The Iran wrestling news thread on Indianamat is up to 37 pages in 81 days (0.46 pages per day) while this thread is at 17 pages in just 32 days (0.53 per day). With the addition of Covid we can definitely catch them. Keep up the good work.

  11. Yes I figured this out about half way thu. If you really want to watch the full match be over on that mat ahead of time and switch back and forth between mats if a commercial pops up. We really shouldn't have to do this as paying subscribers.

  12. Exactly. The complexity of the Covid epidemic was impossible to deal with perfectly. Exactly how contagious was it, and how was it transmitted? Exactly how did it affect different people? Who was in contact with whom, and how were they in contact? Even with these answers it would have been difficult to come up with a plan that some people wouldn't have disagreed with, without them it was impossible. In lieu of a perfect plan initially, the best that could be done was a plan that changed as more info became available. Many in the media seized this as proof that "the fix was in", that our leaders had an "agenda", and that our medical experts were inept or in on "the fix", or both. Bottom line, this was a situation that it was probably prudent to err on the side of caution. That should be easy to see. This is/was not one of those things that fits into my side of the simple/complex discussion we had earlier. The human body is a mighty complex machine.

  19. But what is "unquestionable guilt"? It's not hard to cherry pick a few cases, but how to you write the law to ensures this definition is applied equally, fairly, and never against an innocent person? The legal standard for guilt is "beyond a reasonable doubt", and we know that innocent people are convicted and even put to death on rare occasion, so how are you defining the line where "beyond reasonable doubt" turns to "unquestionable guilt"? And on top of that you want to streamline the process to make it cost effective over life in prison? You don't think that would increase the chance of a mistake? If you can write a law that makes capital punishment cheaper, with 0% error, and can't be abused, I'll hop on board. But I think it'll be a lot more difficult than looking at a few cases and saying "that one fits".

  21. I understand a commercial or two here and there, but they should be strategically placed during down time. Instead, when I’m flipping between matches, during the semifinals say, I get a commercial every time I click on a new mat (Roku app). In something very time-sensitive like a wrestling match, this can mean the difference between catching critical action and not.

  23. Wow...how can you say you have no interest in comparing severity of a virus...seriously?!?! How in the hell do you make your decisions on what is safe for you and what isn't? Or do you just wait for someone else to tell you how to react and behave? And no shit sherlock...this isn't a game...it isn't about winning or losing other than the fact that decisions are made that do in fact impact life's and livelihoods based on severity of a virus. You going to tell all those kids who missed out on once in a lifetime opportunities you don't care who wins or loses? Are you going to tell all those small business that went under and lost their life savings you don't care who wins or loses?? What about all the mental health issues?? How about the opiod epidemic?? How about all the things that kill people WAY more than Covid? I am in no way downplaying Covid, and in no way dismissing anything, but if you can't see the importance of truly understanding the severity of a virus, and/or you can't see how badly this whole thing was basterdized by our politicians and the media than you truly are not worth arguing with. I honestly think it is sad that there is even a need to debate this...it should have never gotten to this point...we got screwed over by our "leaders" and "experts" for political reasons. It should have never been overblown or undersold as to what this was and can cause. And the reality of it all is you are probably wrong AND I am probably wrong in regard to this...that is how bad it has gotten when it shouldn't have.

  24. Fascinating that one of your pet peeves seems to be pretty much the opposite of one of mine. I've always been frustrated when I see people adding a lot of arbitrary rules and proprietary wording to otherwise simple concepts, until they are no longer easily understood. Often this seems to be on purpose. Obviously, your career and my previous career necessitated a lot of complexity and specifics. However, I have no doubt that I could explain the most complex things I did so that you would understand them. Of course, the language, some of the mathematical techniques, and other things would seem foreign to you. I could explain those to you too! I'm pretty sure once you strip away all the political and financial rhetoric here, you're left with a very simple concept... Is the current national debt too big, given the population of our country, GDP, and lots of other stuff I don't know? Again, to put this in perspective that's $31 trillion ÷ 300 million people ≈ $100,000 per man, woman, child in the US. For a family of 4, $400K. Considering what I read about how many households would have trouble laying their hands on $400, let alone 1000 times that, it SIMPLY seems too much to me. (I suppose the fact that some Americans could lay their hands on a thousand times $400,000 probably skews things back to it being more reasonable for the country, I guess.) Of course nearly all households need borrowing for purchasing a house and probably a car. The objective for the individual should be to increase net worth through paying down the mortgage, investing in retirement funds, etc. The federal government keeps financing more and more houses, more and more cars, more and more pizzas, wings, and sodas. Give me 4 of those, 8 of those, and also a couple Happy Meals. Put it on my tab. What pisses me off is it's my money, my kids' money, my Grandkids' money... I suspect we're pretty close on our financial perspectives, though we go at it in a different way.

  27. Askren, in my opinion, was just as good or better at mma than Chandler and Woodley. Unfortunately when most get to see him was at the end of his career in the ufc where he was hampered by a serious hip injury. That injury made him just a shell of himself. In his prime he would have been a formidable foe for just about anyone. He probably should have stayed retired and not fought in the ufc but he had a dream. A dream that was shattered by a knee to the face. Plus I’m sure he made a shit load of money

  28. Cael has had enjoyed some unprecedented success at Penn State and the total individual NCAA champions he's produced has really accumulated. To date he has coached 32 individual NCAA champions at PSU. This is one fewer than John Smith coached at OSU and he became the head coach there in 1991. Cael only got the PSU job in 2009. Adding in the two champions he coached at ISU, Cael is at 34 and ahead of Smith despite starting 15 years later. The only coaches with more individual NCAA champions than Cael are Ed Gallagher (OSU 37), Harold Nichols (ISU 38), and Dan Gable (Iowa 45). Cael has 4 wrestlers currently ranked #1 by the #1 ranking service, Intermat, and a 5th wrestler that's a returning national champion. It seems possible that Cael will move into 2nd on the all-time list behind only Dan Gable this season. Cael has a realistic shot at catching Gable by 2024-2025, which is crazy. Cael's averaged 4.2 individual NCAA champions over the past 5 tournaments and he's only 11 back. The 5 title contenders he currently has on the squad (RBY, Starocci, Brooks, Dean, and Kerkvliet) have 10 combined years of eligibility remaining including this season going through the 2024-2025 season. 2024-2025 will be Cael's 19th season as a head coach which would be 2 fewer than Gable's term at Iowa. What do you think the all-time list will look like at the end of the season? The end of the 2025 season? Can John Smith get 4 more champions to match Gallagher's school record?

  29. Yes - I'm aware of that. And also aware of all the pandemic preparedness being done around the globe by other groups. So - yes - there was a 'playbook' of sorts. Probably had a decent amount of useful information, too. But it certainly didn't have all the answers. Even the most basic things like "how is it transmitted?" couldn't have been answered - because nobody could have known yet. Bigger picture, my point is still that we were stuck with doing the best we could with very limited knowledge. Except some of the media, that were jumping on the opportunity to point fingers and encourage infighting.

  31. Ever heard of Dan Gable? Cael and Gable are definitely in a league of their own, but Smiths coaching record is pretty incredible too. “Only” 5 titles in 30 years, but in the last 30 years, no TEAM other than Iowa or Penn Sate won more titles than that! Plus, factor in he also had 11 other top 3 finishes in that time. That’s pretty darn good.

  34. I’m not a fan of the religious aspect, but Team Carl is able to put Phil Jackson to shame. He turns myeh into good, good into great, and great into elite. He also helps those individuals realize the secret sauce that there is no finish line and you will always be seeking more but harness that into a positive. It takes many of us well into our 40s and 50s if we are lucky to fully grasp that philosophy. He’s truly the evolution of Dan Gable. Hate it or love it, but we all have to respect it. I genuinely believe that Kyle Snyder and his mentality is the perfect molding where his protege Taylor falls short with his dick-swinging bravado. He is the true heir to the Sanderson school. A selfless champion that just wants to always give his best, work harder than anyone else, and appreciate the life lessons of wrestling. Servant-leader attitude. Should we all be so lucky…

  36. Tougher than what? In 2021 Roman Bravo-Young and Nick Lee were the 2 seed and Carter Starocci was the 3 seed, meaning they had the "tough" semi. That turned out alright. Of their four champs that year only Aaron Brooks was the 1 seed. In 2022 the script was flipped. This time only Brooks wasn't the 1 seed. Again, it turned out alright.

  41. RBY, Brooks, and at least two other finalists this year take it to the bank. Penn State does this like clockwork in "transition years." I remember when there was concern about the next class taking over. That was Hall, Nolf, Nickal, Joseph. Then the next generation how are they going to do it... that was the RBY, Lee, Brooks group. The point is, it's the best room in the country. It's only not won a team title twice - once when Carl redshirted everyone and once when the stars aligned for Iowa (and I hate to say it but I think PSU would have won in 2020 as well). It's like betting against Iowa in the Gable days - you have to be stupid and brave to do it. As long as Carl and Casey are in Happy Valley I will never go against a Nittany Lion on Friday night.

  42. Until Kerk beats Cassioppi or Schultz I cannot in good conscience pick him, and I was a big time Kerk stan for a long time. He really seems to struggle against big heavies with a high wrestling IQ. Dean lost twice last year at NCAAs. He got a couple big time Carl calls in his favor. If he still had a red singlet with a big white C on his chest I'm not sure he would have received the same treatment. Brooks losing may have been the best thing to happen to him. I am anticipating a destroyer of all worlds the next 11 weeks.

  43. Sorry got hung up on the international weights and round the kilograms up to the next weight ex: 57kg/125.7 lbs is now the 126 weight class, 65kg/143.3 lbs is now the 144 weight class which is my preference. I've been a staunch advocate for that but I recognize I am in what appears to be the minority because it opens up more high weight classes. And @Husker_Du is correct - if the athlete is ready then don't wait around for a hypothetical team situation 4 calendar years down the road. It's a team-oriented individual sport after all.
