  1. Wasn't sure if this was posted somewhere else. Saw this post online about Yianni after the loss.... Much respect for the young man.... still my pick to win it.

  2. No surprise. They are the party of tax breaks for the rich. Reagan, Bush 2, Trump. It's what they do. Hell, most of the middle class is so stupid anymore, they don't even have to be sneaky about it.

  3. It is easy to share disinformation without any research with a simply share/retweet on social media without even reading the article or any due diligence if it "supports" your line of thinking. Remember last year when a news person on Facebook put they "Support mandatory VACATIONS?" People commenting were going off the rails because they are idiots and are easily triggered by anything against their beliefs. At what point should disinformation result in deletion of content or banning of the offender? If someone comes on here and says a prominent person in the wrestling community is a part of some highly illegal activity without any proof, should it be taken down? What if that person is one of the InterMat people? With social media and even a smaller version like a messageboard comes responsibility to curb disinformation or else we have the "if true" people that comment on anything that doesn't fit their beliefs or narrative.

  4. I always go back to a comment RBY made after winning last year. He was talking about what Cael Sanderson said to him right before he went out for his first final. It was something along the lines of, "In ten years no one will remember this." I think it is a masterful way to diffuse the tension and let a wrestler just wrestle.

  5. Re: capital cases. From an economic standpoint, it’s cheaper to keep someone alive in prison than it is to conduct at least two trials for a capital case. Also, the fact that there is a massive racial disparity in terms of who is tried for capital offenses sticks in my craw. Last but not least, the number of capital cases overturned in the last forty years is staggering. Not on technicalities; stuff like police suppression of exculpatory evidence. Or DNA evidence that meant that the person convicted in court could not have been the person who committed the crime. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  6. One caveat about wrestlestat bonus rate calcs, they do not include MFOR in the numerator, but they do include them in the denominator. They should either be included in both or excluded from both. But in their current form, wrestlestat occassionally understates bonus rate. It was probably most notable last year due to the large number of MFOR and small number of matches.

  12. Mike Lindell is apparently going to challenge Ronna McDaniel to be the chair of the RNC. I’m sure that will result in change that makes the Republican Party more able to win the votes of Americans. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. Since 1973, at least 190 people who were on death row have been exonerated. That’s a lot of people that ***someone*** likely knew was innocent but either through malice, indifference or negligence, worked to get sentenced to death. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. 1982 177 bracket had Schultz, Banach, Reiss who all had titles prior to that year

  16. Except Carr was at 157 not nearly as deep as 165, either year. Of course, all of this is relative because it’s just my opinion, which doesn’t mean shit.

  17. Once again, baloney. I did an entire presentation on this a few years back, all the while tricking my audience (older and middle-aged people) who also think that they were smarter than "the kids today. Unfortunately, our data shows that kids just keeping getting brighter and brighter. https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2013/06/student-test-scores-continue-rise-just-they-have-past-40-years/ ONLY drops in 50 years have been during COVID, which coukd be expecked. https://www.nationsreportcard.gov/highlights/ltt/2022/

  19. The tone is better here for some reason. It's clear there's a large divide, but it hasn't degenerated into name calling and sloganeering. That's a big plus.

  21. Close - but the Gophers had an AA at 157 in 2009 and it was not DS. They had no entry at 149 though. So it looks like only Leen and Gregor Gillespie were defending champs at 157 in 2009.

  22. Agreed. 'Masterful' may work many ways. Perhaps he told Nolf, "Give them something to remember in ten years."

  23. Ahhh, yes, now the forum is for real where Iowa gets attacked very quickly in an unrelated thread. Now we're cooking with gas. Seems like Iowa just lost two high profile matches without incident.

  25. 2008, 149 weight class had about 6 NCAA finalists I believe. Metcalf, Schlatter, Burroughs, Churella, Jenkins, Caldwell, Palmer, etc.

  26. He is an impressive individual, certainly. I still have him taking 149 at NCAAs.

  27. I also was there when Gomez beat Yianni 11/19 at Cornell. Robert Owens was 100% correct about Yianni's demeanor toward the end of the match, and after the match. He was total class. I would add that I thought Gomez's actions during and after the match were very classy. He didn't get in Yanni's grill afterward, just shook hands. He did taunt the (extremely vocal) crowd slightly after the match, but considering the magnitude of the upset I'd say his celebration was very low-key. He then went over to his teammates and celebrated with them. Considering the atmosphere, I'd say Chris Bono and his whole team were pretty classy before, during, and after the entire dual. (I was initially confused by his referring to the match as part of a tournament. It was a dual, Wisconsin v Cornell. Then I realized this must have been written by someone who may be unfamiliar with wrestling lingo.)

  33. not a dedicated source, no. Oklahoma does a poor job in general covering the sport, IMO. I do not think there is any mention in any of the main newspapers about Oklahoma having this many top ranked teams, or kids. In other words, owrestle is the best and maybe the only source...sorry for the confusion.

  35. O'toole may have to beat carr 4 times this year. Scuffle, isu dual, big 12s and nationals. That's more than carr has lost his entire career.

  36. I think he majors Carr. Lots of people probably don’t realize just how good this kid is. He shut it down in the all star match. He doesn’t stop just keeps going keeps scoring. Special

  37. Just my opinion. We will see how the year goes.

  38. O’Toole will not lose this year and quite possibly not another college match, barring injury. This kid is special. I’ve watched him wrestle a lot and he is always in control. He went through a gauntlet last years Championships with a broke ankle. Nobody is going to stop him and to be honest I don’t even think it is close. If he put his mind to it I think he could bonus everyone this year including Carr. O’Toole will go down as an all timer. I think the only thing that keeps him from going up to 174 and taking on Starocci is staying in closer range to 74kg for Olympic weight.

  39. It would seem that Gable was a master of getting the very best of his wrestlers. He could see what needed tweeking. I think Cael and Casey have that same ability and take great recruits and make them unstoppable. Cael's brother Cody also seems to be very good. mspart

  43. Young people are stupid. That is demonstrable. In my day, everyone knew their multiplication tables. Now, they need a calculator. In my day, everyone knew we had 50 states. That is debatable now if you believe man on the street type videos. In my day, everyone knew about the checks and balances built into the Constitution to protect the union. Most young people today don't know the difference between the House and Senate in Congress. They cannot articulate their position on anything, "like you know, I just like feel that way, you know?" They think they are owed something while putting no effort into making it happen for themselves. They think a minimum wage job should provide a living wage rather than being a stepping stone to bigger and better things. We have done them no service by giving them everything they want. They think if they want it it should materialize. Again, JMHO. mspart

  44. what was crazy about trump's policies? voters voted for student loan forgiveness, covid lockdowns, open boarders, shutting down oil production, billions for ukraine, and voting w/o ID but i'm the one who loses credibility? lol everything about the left is nonsensical, including their stance on hs curriculum.

  45. The media lies have a substantial influence on young women voting behavior. While most people agree that abortion should be situationally legal, the media would have women believe that the evil Republicans will issue a comprehensive ban. The lies are so effective that in states like Kansas, where abortion is legal, even Republican women believed they were losing their rights. When the media generates a shitstorm about tiny percentages, stupid people do what stupid people do.
