Hey, I'm fat, I can say it.

It should surprise nobody here that many wrestlers get fat after their years of cutting weight.  We didn't just start to see this phenomenon in the last couple years; it's been known for decades.

Getting older doesn't help, either.

You lean guys in your 20's think you're going to be different? You won't be. Make plans now to deal with it.

That’s key - most of my friends who wrestled are overweight and I don’t get it. We know how to lose weight and we know how to keep it off so why slack off in our later years?? Conversely there are many former wrestlers who control their weight and stay in good shape in their later years because they know no other way.

The discipline is redirected to career and family, plus they are finally free to enjoy food.  Wrestlers are also great at getting back into shape later on when they decide to.

Well that ain't the way to do it in later years.  Its exercise and calorie intake.

But sadly many/most don't.

I’ve exercised for as long as I can remember. Just walking has amazing effects on the body, and the mind too. Where the mind goes the body follows and those having difficulty starting after years of dormancy will realize a positive impact on cardio, physicality and of course an improvement in attitude and a new zeal for life once you make exercise and diet an important part of your life.

Agreed. It is activity and caloric intake, and it's also genetics and metabolism. It varies from person to person. So it becomes difficult to tell.

Here's something relevant in all our daily lives:

Trump is morbidly obese. And yet - both he and his GOP minions celebrate what good shape he is in.

So - maybe - it's just about having enough brown nosers around that makes you not fat?

Y'all forget that may wrestlers have bodies that are shot.    Bad knees, hips, backs can put a damper on cardio and other workouts.     Getting back to fighting weight isn't as easy as some of you think.

More than half of our nation is overweight or obese. Are we blaming bad knees, hips and backs for this disastrous trend? My senior Mom is overweight with arthritis, bad knees and hips from previous falls, yet she insists on doing her own house cleaning and food shopping, takes out the garbage and many other things because she says “I need the exercise” no matter how many times I offer to help her or hire help. Much of this national lethargy among our citizenry stems from a weak uncaring mind imo.

You know someone has real psychological issues when this makes it to an IMAR thread.

Maybe... judging by the last dozen posts or so, it was an I-Mart thread that gently turned into a wrestlers' weight thread.

I hope you aren't another one of the forum police who pretends that it isn't OK to let threads wander.

Threads wander. Get over it you little puss cake.

And wandering into South Park territory is as good as any other.
