Some of the finer details may be incorrect and the exact time line may also be off, but here it is.... So there were several DUIs. Someone told me at least 3 but I'm not sure. Greg Hatcher owned an insurance company, had relocated from Michigan to Arkansas. He was single handedly funding HS wrestling in Arkansas. When I say that he was funding it, that is an understatement. He would approach a HS and offer to purchase 2 full mats. The singlets, warm ups, shoes, & headgear for the team was on the school. It was not hard for schools to say "Welcome to Arkansas!" He hears about Pat's issues and makes a call, Pat moves to Little Rock, and becomes the rep for the mat company, shoe company, and any other gear outlet they might need. Then the arrangement is made with the next school, I will donate this and you will buy the rest from your rep Pat. Oh and he does clinics and has opened up a club. Someone else mentioned that he left for the fishing and that could be. The people of Arkansas have truly been dealt a winning hand! Greg has also started several college programs. I live in Texas and Texas could benefit from a guy like Greg Hatcher! I hope that helps!

No I don't blame you! I didn't think he had enough time to right the ship at OU. He has a lot of great cradle stuff and it would have been nice to see those OU guys buy in and start using that. I got the impression that Tom basically pushed him out for his own good. Any truth to that?

This was not the first time that an assistant coach at Okie State was partying too much. How could we forget them running the first 4X Naty Champ, Pat Smith? They not only ran him out of Stillwater, they ran him out of the entire state of Oklahoma. He was voted off the island and exiled to Oklahoma Lite aka Arkansas.

Lou should have gone to Edinboro when Flynn left. He had a hard time getting those tough NE kids to go to Oklahoma, but he would have been able to get them to go to the Boro. Now that AJ is back at the Boro, that HC job should be sealed when Hill decides to hang it up. Lou and Cody got to OU when all they wanted was someone to raise funds. One of the many things that Spates messed up at OU. Spates was great at raising money and spending it too! OU loved the idea of a coach raising a lot of money and that was the blueprint they tried to impose on Lou and Cody. Lou also cut the low hanging fruit or they transferred out.

I don't think Chris will get a shot at a HC spot after his recent "tampering" with a recruit incident.

Maybe they should have gone to U of I instead of IU

I don't think Brands is going anywhere and here's why. They are one of the most successful programs on campus. The administration doesn't care if they don't win it all, they keep selling out CHA and they brought a team trophy home from that March tournament thingie, so they're good.

The University of Texas had wrestling and they will never bring it back and neither will the SEC. The only hope for a bigger school in Texas to add wrestling is going to be Texas Tech. We should start applying pressure to ESPN to make the SEC bring wrestling back to their conference.

It might not be a barrier now, but when BYU dropped wrestling, they were not in the Big 12 and they would not compete on Sunday. Period. They claimed they were not getting the interest they would like. It would be hard to draw top tier kids when your program doesn't even have a full time assistant coach. No real support for the team.

When TCU joined the Big 12 they never even thought about adding wrestling. They added equestrian instead. The reasoning was that about 90% of the costs for it were covered by the students. If true, we will never see TCU field a wrestling team.

I would say that Texas Tech would be a good pick in Texas. They are members of the Big 12 (UNT & the other Texas schools are not in a conference that sponsors wrestling). If Arizona & Colorado added, that may help in applying pressure to Tech.

BYU won't bring it back. They don't compete on Sunday and as a member of the Big 12 most duals are on Friday & Sunday, along with tournaments. On another note...Cael's dad Steve, applied for the BYU job when it was open. BYU went with Mark Schultz instead. Steve said that his boys woukd never go to BYU! BYU never invested in the program, as they were never fully funded and only had 1 part time assistant coach for the majority of the time.

What about the UNI-Iowa dual?

The average price for a State in Texas is about $8900 a year. After scholarship and aid, most D3 schools are closer to $25K a year. There are some that have really good need-based programs (North Central is great at this), but most are not.

Could the problem with D3 be that they are really expensive? Why would a kid who can't make a D2 or D1 roster want to pay $50K a year to wrestle? They could go to their local state school and save a lot of money.
