Better for team . Kayak another year

Ok...but he's gonna have to RS one year. Next 2 years, I think Mesenbrink stays at '65. He doesn't have the frame for '74 IMO. So...unless one goes up, they're best weights will be '57. Makes more sense to RS Duke, then Kasak, Duke goes '57 year 2, '65 the last year. You also have Cunningham's, Sealy, Jayden James on his way(not as pressing), Henckel and several others right now.

Unless Mesenbrink can grow into '74...I don't know if it matters.

I think redshirting in general should be taken away. Also no more double holdbacks. Especially in the top prep schools. Most are a minimum of one year hold backs. Some are close to three years after they take a post graduate year. So as a red shirt freshman some if these kids/men are 22 years old! It simple is not right. Guys like Duke and Forrest would be 3 timers instead of 4 timers. I wish they would reign this practice in. Then half of the low level D1 guys who are sometimes only 17 are wrestling full grown men. So unfair man.

But with all that said PSU is another problem. Like a dang monopoly. Senior world team members should not be redshirting. Go to another freaking team man!

If they shouldn't be redshirting then why did they create an Olympic redshirt hmmmm? Checkmate atheists.

I don’t disagree.   With that said money will make it way worse over time imo.   Plus plenty in the sport and on this board are beyond behind it.   One guy skipped his first year of 8th grade (to take it again next year) to play video games…. So he could grow in the sport.  I think that behavior is behind nonsense.  It’s certainly not cheating…. But it’s 200% morally bankrupt.

If not for redshirts, kindergarten hold backs, 6th grade retakes and video gaming years then what is a 27/28 year old college kid who wants to play sports gonna do?

The sad thing is this is true and happening alot with the elite guys especially. Start late in K. Then hold back in 6th or 8th grade. Go to Prep school and possibly take a PG year. 21 when you graduate high school. Why are we allowing this? Then the media says how great they are for winning senior level events in high school. Don't get me wrong winning senior level anything at any age is amazing. But stop saying how amazing it is for a high schooler to do it. How old is that kid? I was sitting in the stands and I over heard alot of people saying how are these high schoolers doing this? I wanted to turn around and say cause their daddy made them go 15 years of school before college. But I bit my tongue.

2027-28

57: Kasak

65: Duke

PSU will very likely be in a position that they could ORS 70% or more of their starting lineup - particularly with scholarship/roster cap changes.

Worlds are in mid to late September. That has to make starting college tough. Maybe he’ll consider a greyshirt. Seems like he’ll be pursuing freestyle anyway.

I don't see a lot of elite guys taking PG years anymore.

Maybe not alot in the grand scheme doing PG years but I ran into a few at Bison duals last year. But 21 year old freshman is not abnormal which is the point. Legal but cmon dads...geez!

Why not just redshirt?

If PJ Duke does U20s and Seniors, then why not just redshirt as a freshman? He could go to ranking series events in 2026. The first two are usually in February and early march and then the next two are late May and early June. He will probably be the 2026 Pan Ams rep too. It could be a lot of competition in a redshirt year. Plus he can get Big Ten duals at 157.

Yes.  My son will be a 21 year old senior next year.  I think he would have done pretty well in high school this year!

The reason he might consider greyshirting is schoolwork. Getting into peak condition for mid to late September. Traveling to Europe. I assume a camp in Europe to acclimate himself. Competing. Coming back. How much would he really be able to study? If he’s on the world team now, he may decide to treat it as his full time job now.
