The issue is that Brennan got 5 years of post seasons including this one so he should be out, right?   What about Starocci?

To wrestle 5 postseasons you must have wrestled the 2021 'free' Covid year. Brennan did not. He wrestled Pac12's in 2020, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025.

Yeah that’s bad. It seems so simple to see he wasn’t eligible too. I’d also like to know who certified him? I highly doubt it was someone from the NCAA

Expand

It would seem to be the school. The school looks to the conference or the NCAA for ratification. The conference looks to the NCAA for ratification, but not the school.

Or maybe it was just some jamoke on this message baord.

Interesting that it was the Pac 12 that first ruled him ineligible and then they didn't even get to send a Pac 12 guy. Ouch

Expand

Yeah, that's what happens when you send an ineligible wrestler.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

I keep seeing people in this thread stating Carter Starocci got special treatment. People keep saying he was given an extra year. Does everyone know that he was not singled out and given an extra year? You do realize that this isn’t a Carter Starocci got an extra year while this kid not right? Because it sure seems like a lot of people don’t get it.

It's true. There are plenty of people who wrestled the same four pre-2025 seasons as Starocci. The difference between Starocci and the others is that Starocci is undefeated in the postseason.

My guess is they get it.  Either f@n haters or don't like the rule.

Only if they also punishment all the other teams breaking rules. What did LR gain?

Expand

Why is it a necessary condition that they gain something to be punished? They denied their conference an allocation.  they denied a wrestler a bid. They denied other teams wins in dual meets. There is probably more.

Little Rock would be in a better posture of they elaborated on what the two purported certifications were.  They haven't to my knowledge produced anything that demonstrates that someone in authority, other than at Little Rock, who was provided information that included somewhere the fact that his four postseasons didn't  include 2021, officially said he was properly eligible.  Absent that what they've said doesn't seem to mean a lot with respect to whether and how much Little Rock as a school was culpable.

Sympathy to Brennan. He believed he could still wrestle because he was lied to by somebody. Still, there are guys who have been in college for 7 years, including the Braunagel twins, that are wrestling at NCAAs. Smacks of favoritism.

Do we know if the staff at LR are incompetent and just didn’t know?   Do we know if they are raging cheaters in a dark back room scheming to cheat?   Do we know if Brennan was or wasn’t in on cheating?   I don’t think we know anything factual other than he is out of eligibility.

Do we know factually.  I honestly dunno.

I can't edit this, @scourge165, but I misremembered how this played out, and now remember. I understand the complaint.  Not sure why AOC let go, nearly a catastrophic mistake for him.

Yeah...he had a match the year before vs O'Connor with a VERY similar ending(he doesn't get out, but he's up by a point and gives up the TD in the last ~15 seconds.

I thought they called a stalling point to make it 3-3 and then looked to see if there was also an escape. Not sure what Scott was yelling about. Otherwise, if it was a warning and an escape it still didn't change who was winning.

Expand

I think he was yelling because Humphrey's clearly gets away and the ref had just given him a stalling to make it a 1 point match.

So they review it and he likely thinks they'll give up the 1 point and...they don't and O'Connor is saved(though in fairness, I think he wins in OT).
