I use one and it’s hit or miss, but yeah that’s the most annoying thing about using an ad blocker.  For this particular article and I believe NY Post most of the time it just gives me a message to say “continue without supporting us.”

This is an interesting topic on human behavior and not a new phenomenon.  Have maybe a strange theory on why this is.  We as an observer never want to see ourselves as the victim.  The idea of being helpless is subconsciously terrifying.

I also believe there is a resolve to focus on avoiding it happening again…which leads to focus to the perpetrators and what they were doing leading up to the event, what might have made them flip the switch, etc.  

For some, focus on the “blame” is very much a shallow game of “see” and “gotcha”, but for many it’s actually a productive effort.

I bet you are right.  In my opinion I wish the behind the scenes "stuff" dealt with the why things like this happen, and the "stuff" that is fed to us via the media in various sources focused on the victims and their families and what we can do to help them.  Let the "experts" figure out the why and the rest of society focus on the victims and their families.  Again, just my opinion.

I think it’s important for society to be involved in the process for awareness. We’ve seen many many counts of the public thwarting, or at least leading to the stoppage, one of these events.  We don’t get that without awareness. 
 

I get and am behind the point you are making, and certainly agree that the people into the shallow games would switch their tune. Doesn’t help anything but a temporary happy feeling of some sort for them.

I agree...I think it is important for society to know why this happened and to be aware, just wish it was after the behind-the-scenes stuff happens...I know it is just that, wishful thinking.

The head of police? Honestly I don't know.  I'd guess they'd have to verify who the perpetrator is.  I don't remember the timeline.  Were they reporting that it was a student but not the gender?  By the time I had a better picture I knew it was both a student and a female
