Shameless plug for hating the ads on this site.  You have to turn off your ad blocker to see news papers arg

I use one and it’s hit or miss, but yeah that’s the most annoying thing about using an ad blocker.  For this particular article and I believe NY Post most of the time it just gives me a message to say “continue without supporting us.”

I agree with what you said and felt the same due to seeing a couple tv reports in which they were using "he" and "she" pronouns.

But I also feel that more focus should be on the victims, but it never is and everyone wants to jump to the perpetrator and make it all about that.

This is an interesting topic on human behavior and not a new phenomenon.  Have maybe a strange theory on why this is.  We as an observer never want to see ourselves as the victim.  The idea of being helpless is subconsciously terrifying.

I also believe there is a resolve to focus on avoiding it happening again…which leads to focus to the perpetrators and what they were doing leading up to the event, what might have made them flip the switch, etc.

For some, focus on the “blame” is very much a shallow game of “see” and “gotcha”, but for many it’s actually a productive effort.

I bet you are right.  In my opinion I wish the behind the scenes "stuff" dealt with the why things like this happen, and the "stuff" that is fed to us via the media in various sources focused on the victims and their families and what we can do to help them.  Let the "experts" figure out the why and the rest of society focus on the victims and their families.  Again, just my opinion.

I think it’s important for society to be involved in the process for awareness. We’ve seen many many counts of the public thwarting, or at least leading to the stoppage, one of these events.  We don’t get that without awareness.

I get and am behind the point you are making, and certainly agree that the people into the shallow games would switch their tune. Doesn’t help anything but a temporary happy feeling of some sort for them.

I agree...I think it is important for society to know why this happened and to be aware, just wish it was after the behind-the-scenes stuff happens...I know it is just that, wishful thinking.

Lets say your assessment is 100% accurate it still doesn't excuse a twitter source or any proclaimed news source from stating it as fact.  When I first heard the story break I only had 2 facts.  It was in Wisconsin & it was at a Church school.  Being an honest guy I can admit my first thought was it was probably trans related.  But, I didn't post anything stating that because that was just a hunch.  When I first heard of the CEO shooting my first thought was that the shooter himself or a family member was denied coverage and he was seeking revenge. Both of my hunches were wrong.

For what reason would he not give the sex of the student shooter?

The head of police? Honestly I don't know.  I'd guess they'd have to verify who the perpetrator is.  I don't remember the timeline.  Were they reporting that it was a student but not the gender?  By the time I had a better picture I knew it was both a student and a female

Except I don't learn anything from MSNBC. Jump to a better conclusion.

The X platform prioritizes speed over accuracy and it obviously lacks editorial standards.  There's a burden on the reader to critically evaluate the content they consume on X.  This shooting topic is a perfect example that wakes people to the need to cross-very information, something that many people do not perform or know how to do effectively.

And THIS IS AWESOME because this skillset applies to all areas of life.  You can apply this skillset when interacting with colleagues, friends, family, and strangers in all areas of your life.  The ability to call hogwash quicker.  This skillset can then be applied to the MSM.

X is the best for getting firsthand accounts and live updates while still following verified news organizations directly.  And its entertaining.

I don't like a lot of content on tiktok.  But I'd never dismiss a CNN video posted to tiktok, when the source I'm evaluating is CCN (not tiktok).  I wouldn't dismiss a first hand account or live update just because it's posted to tiktok.  That's silly.
