WiTh HiS tRaCk ReCorD... he changed his commitment once just like countless other recruits. Get over it. He's not a Ferrari that wrestled for three different high schools and just as many colleges. Robideau, Spratley, Vega, Jamison, Mesenbrink, Kerkvliet, Jayden James, Welsh, Nagao, and how many others aren't wrestling at their original commitment? It. Happens. All. The. Time. Bassett and Miller could have gone to literally any school in the country and chose VT. Will they spend their entire careers there? Who knows in today's NCAA landscape. But the non-stop hate this kid gets is just ridiculous.

57kg: Favorites: Luke Lilledahl (u20 Gold, u20 silver, Cadet gold, Cadet silver) Luke is pretty clearly the favorite at this weight that overall is one of the weaker weights at the tournament. The Asian gold (north korea) and one of the Bronze (saliev) are not entered, Pavlov (euro gold) and Zangaladze (euro silver) are also not entered or not at 57 and I think they would have probably been Luke's toughest matches although I would have picked him in. We have gotten to see him now against more senior level international competition and its pretty clear that he is close to competing for a senior level medal. Valizadeh is someone who I thought about putting in this tier simply as a product of him being Irans senior guy for a world championship at the age of 19 and the guy at seniors this year. He also has a win over Razzade and Horst lehr which are very quality wins. However he has not shown much level of consistency and I do have some questions about how effective he can still be at 57kg. Medal Threats: Nodirbek JUMANAZAROV (Asian silver) ANKUSH (u20 Bronze) Milad Valizadeh (senior asian silver) Predictions: Gold: Luke Silver: Jumanazarov Bronze: Ankush Bronze: Valizadeh 61kg: Favorites: Jax Forrest (Senior world 5th, cadeit silver), Akito Mukaida (emperors cup bronze via win over Hosigawa world bronze meji cup silver), Levik Mikayelan (u23 euro gold many worlds under his belt defeated Nic bouzakis 10-3 last year), Fedor Baltuev( u20 bronze beating Jess mendez only loss was via fall 7-10 against amouzad also got silver at the 2023 Yarigyan losing to Abasghadzi 10-8), Reza Momeni (senior world 7th). This is a very deep field with quite a bit of variance Baltuev at a time looked like the next guy to step up for Russia being ranked as high as 5 in the world but has not wrestled a ton since 2023, at least that I have seen. Akito Mukaida has record a win as well as a tech fall loss to Hosogawa in the last 12 months who as I mentioned is a former world bronze and was leading suda 3-2 pretty for the spot on the world team this year. Mikayelan seems quite powerful and had a very good single against bouzakis and could certainly be someone that makes some noise but despite competing at 4 age level world championships has yet to medal. I think Jax is the best and most consistent guy here although if the Baltuev of old i.e when he was 20 shows up it should be a great match. Medal Threats: Jeyhun Allahverdiyev(u20 euro champ u23 euro silver) , Tolga Ozbek (wrestled Blaze pretty tough for bronze last year losing 0-5) Predictions: Gold: Jax Silver: Baltuev Bronze: Mukaida Bronze: Mikayelan 65kg: Favorites: Marcus Blaze (u20 Gold, U20 bronze, Cadet gold), Yuto Nishiuchi (2x u20 gold beating Lilledahl 5-0 1 year, fell to Ono 3-2 to make the national team in 2024 at 61kg) , Sujeet (u23 bronze, u20 bronze, Notable win over Yianni), Umidjon jalalov (Senior bronze, U20 gold, cadet gold, cadet silver), Bashir magomedov (2x u23 gold). Needless to say this weight is insane and I would argue its the deepest age level weight I have ever seen. As american fans I do not think we should look at this as medal or bust for Marcus this is 100% a senior worlds caliber weight and Marcus will likely be undersized. That said I think he can beat any of these guys. Bashir is very very good but is also probably a natural 61kg so he could be giving up a little size. Nishiuchi is probably the least known about as of late but he may very well be the best guy here and potentially the third best guy in the world behind Kiyooka and Amouzad. Jalolov is obviously riding a huge wave of momentum after taking bronze and seniors and beating Rivera so he may be the pick on paper Medal Threats: Abdullah toprak (u23 bronze, u20 Bronze x2, Cadet bronze) Predictions: Gold: Nishiuchi silver: Blaze Bronze: Jalolov Bronze: Magomedov 70kg: Favorites: PJ duke (u20 gold, u20 bronze, senior world team member), Kanan Heybatov ( 2x u23 bronze, u20 gold, 3x senior world teamer), Sina Khalili (cadet gold, senior asian bronze). I feel much more confident that PJ will medal here than I do that Blaze will. This weight is deep but I tihnk Pj is pretty clearly in the mix as a top 3 guy here and I would favor him currently over khalili. Heybatov has a very wide range of results. He looked awesome in Croatia both time at seniors and the ranking series but looked horrendous in hungary at the ranking series. I am not sure if the cut is a factor for him, but I will predict like he is at his best here. Medal Threats:Alexandr Gaidarli (u20 silver), Kaito Morita Predictions: Gold: Heybatov Silver: PJ Bronze: Khalili Bronze: Morita 74kg: Favorites: Mitchell Messenbrink (u23 bronze, u20 gold, u20 silver), Magomed Khaniev (u23 gold), Magomed Baiutkaev (u20 silver, u20 bronze, cadet gold), Yoshinosuke aoyagi (Senior gold, senior silver, u23 silver, u23 bronze, u20 bronze, cadet bronze). Another absolutely loaded weight. Initially my lean was probably slightly to Aoyagi but he just got beat pretty badly by Narikuni who was formarly a 70kg world champ and most recently has competed at 72kg in greco, so the weight could be a bit of a factor for him. I am a big fan of how both Khaniev and baitukaev wrestle, (not how they take time but how they wrestle) they are both super crafty getting too legs and are super dangerous when you are in on their legs. Manuel wagin is a wildcard here he is super strong and positional but I would be surprised if he was ready to compete with any of the above guys. Mitchell's pace I think will be a serious problem for the two Russians one by Azerbijan and I think he may have a little size on aoyagi Medal Threats: Jaideep (u20 bronze, cadet bronze), Manuel wagin (cadet silver), Magomedrasul asluev (u23 5th) Predictions: Gold: Messenbrink silver: Khaniev Bronze: Aoyagi Bronze: Baitukaev

About two months ago I posted the pools for the Journeyman Duals on the weekend of December 20th in Nashville. This not to be confused with the National Dual Invite (the big one that Okla St is hosting. Unfortunately there seems to be 3 different things that are subject to change. One of the three everyone still seems to be quite clueless on. 1- I believe there to be a change in two of the three pools from what I had initially posted. I find this amusing because what It is being changed to is what I originally had thought it could and should be prior to seeing otherwise on teams leaked schedules at the time. Because the National Duals invite has two of the teams that are partaking in the Journeyman duals (Illinois and Little Rock) facing off round 1...this and further evidence has me believing that those two teams have now been placed in separate pools at the Journeyman. When you take that and the original criteria of teams in pools all being in different conferences of each other, and not being on one another's schedule during the year, the pools are: Penn St -Stanford- NDSU this was always the same, all 3 teams confirm this on their schedule. None of the 3 were going to be going to National Dual invite Ohio St- Cornell- Little Rock Ohio St is in and Illinois out lowa St-Illinois -Lehigh Illinois is in and Ohio St out. 2- I was told that despite the event expanding from its previous annual 2 pools of 3 teams to 3 pools of 3 teams, it seems that we will end up seeing less, not more wrestling. I was initially told that at the conclusion of Day 1, there would be a day 2 like there had always been, where teams would compete in their new pools (all 2-0 teams in one, all 1-1 teams in one, and 0-2 teams in one). It seems that teams are looking to wrestle less and there may not be a day 2 any longer. At least not one consisting of new pools. This gateway into segment ... 3- Nobody seems to have a clue on exact date. Is it Saturday Dec 20th, Sunday December 21st or both? Penn St- Stanford -NDSU who are all in one pool show Sat Dec 20th on their schedule. For the 6 remaining teams, only Illinois shows 12/20 on their schedule while the other 5 show Sunday 12/21. Reason this is a big deal to me. and will be to other Cornell fans is because Cornell has 5 guys missing the first semester who will be eligible to wrestle on Sunday, but not on Saturday. (Greg Diakomahalis, Brett Ungar, Vince Cornella, Ethan Fernandez, Meyer Shapiro)). Any athlete not enrolled in the fall semester is eligible to wrestle the day following the last day of the semester. In other words the day after the schools last final. For Cornell that last exam just so happens to fall on Sat Dec 20th.

It's a free service that provides excellent data to the public. If you judge them for what they are actually trying to to do, it's hard to be anything but grateful.

with my modern day coffee and cigarette (Zyn and energy drink I bring you pt 2) 79kg: Favorites: Levi haines (Senior world Silver), Mahdi Youseffi (u23 gold, 2x u20 gold) Medal threats: Davud Daudov (u23 russian national champion), Chandermohan (u23 asian gold, junior bronze) There is a lot being made about Youseffi vs Haines and surprisingly to me a lot of people picking Youseffi. Youseffis best win this year is Saipudinov who haines has also beaten twice. However after watching him struggle with Henckel who I think is very similar to Levi but less physically mature and not as good positionally yet, I cannot really see this match going well for Youseffi. Similarly to how it was at Seniors this weight is not particularly deep this year. Predictions: Gold: Levi Silver: Youseffi Bronze: Chandermohan Bronze: Daudov 86kg: Favorites: Rahmani (senior gold, u20 bronze), Rocco welsh, Mukhhammad abdullaev (2x u20 bronze), Ali tckoev (u20 bronze), Arsen Balaian (u20 bronze) This weight lacks a clear and far away favorite, and I could see all of the above wrestlers coming away with gold. Prior to u20's Rahmani would have certainly been the favorite here after he was competitive with zahid and Ghas. However after losing to Max he definitely feels much more beatable. Tckoev has been ranked on the senior level and is very long he will be a tricky matchup for Rocco stylistically. Predictions: Gold: Rahmani Silver: Tckoev Bronze: Rocco Bronze: Balaian 92kg: Favorites: Josh Barr (u20 silver, Muhkhamed Khaniev (u23 euro gold, cadet gold), Sherzod Poyonov (u20 gold), Azimi (u20 gold, Senior asian bronze at 97kg) medal threats: Magomed Shapirov (2x senior world participant), This weight is pretty brutal, Poyonov won Mirasolas weight at u20's and looked great. Khaniev is the older brother of the khaniev that beat dee locket and the younger brother of the khaniev that could be Mitchells biggest threat at 74kg. He teched his way through euros. Barr wrestled Trent arguably as well as anyone this year but its hard to know if trent got better after final x or if barr just had the perfect gameplan to slow him down. I do not know a ton about Azimi but his senior asian run up a weight is very impressive. Predictions: Gold: Khaniev Silver: Barr Bronze: Poyonov Bronze: Azimi 97kg: I do not think we are going to medal here Atimukhan and Yoshida are both entered and will be heavy favorites to make the finals. Irans Babaloo is also a former u20 world champ 125kg: Similar sentiment to 97kg. I think Nezhad from Iran is the favorite to win, and little geno is up at heavy now like big bro and I am interested to see how his style translates with the big boys.

Northern Illinios is leaving the MAC in all sports - headed to the Mountain West for football and the rest of their sports are finding a home in the Summit League so I don't think this is in anyway a concern about the future of the MAC wrestling

I figured this out last month based on process of elimination and a # of different factors. I had thought I posted it on here already however I do not see it. These pools have not been announced yet, but here they are Day 1 pools Penn St-Stanford-NDSU Cornell-Illinois-Little Rock Ohio St-Iowa St-Lehigh Day 2 will consist of 3 different pools as well. The 2-0 teams from Day 1 in one pool, 1-1 teams in a pool, and finally the 0-2 teams in a pool. Cornell has half their team out first semester. The way it works however (based on Foca and Ramirez last year) as they (Greg D, Ungar, Cornella, Fernandez, and Shapiro) will all be able to compete at the conclusion of the first semester. They do not have to wait for the second semester to start. Last year, Foca and Ramirez were able to participate in the dual vs NC State at home which fell on Dec 20th. It is looking like barring any injuries, Cornell should be full strength for this event. I would favor Cornell full strength over Illinois. This means quite possibly seeing Shapiro vs Kasak/Duke and Levi Haines vs Simon Ruiz. A match that Haines needed a t defensive takedown in the final seconds to win 4-1 at NCAAs. What about that third pool I listed day 1? I figured this out by the way by first separating like conference teams. Then Cornell and Little Rock accidentally put the teams they were facing on their schedule they rolled out quite early prior to changing it to show “collegiate duals” rather than the teams they were to face. Then with Iowa St having Stanford on their schedule a week after this event, and Cornell having Lehigh…everything fell into place as is. Indeed. I think Nebraska had the second greatest performance relative to their seed in NCAA history (exceeded only, and barely, by the 1969 Iowa State team). It would be wise to assume some reversion to the mean for them this year. That may come in the form of higher seeds, making it harder to outperform. But that does not necessarily hurt their point scoring potential. Or it may come in the form of back sliding a bit, or a lot. Who knows? As for your guess that 2025 Nebraska was the first team to have five AA's seeded outside the top 8....Nailed it. Previously the most AA's from outside of the top 8 seeds was four. This has been done six times. Most recently by....2022 Nebraska.

Tanner Hall is 43 and Cohlton Schultz is 32. They will be competing with David Szuba for the starting 285lb spot at Arizona State. Stevan Micic just reclassified. He'll be a 29 year old Senior at Hanover Central High school in Indiana. Bo Bassett just reclassified as well. He'll be a 23 year old Sophmore at Bishop McCort High School. Dad wants him and Keegan in the same grade. Unfortunately, for those who play the game - they are okay. There is nothing sketch about it. For those who don't, like Dean Hamiti and Levi Haines, they get to be 21 year old college Seniors that are younger than High School Sophmores.

Is this satire? If so, ignore my next statement, if not, please tell me who else you criticize for treating college as professional sports. This is an interesting take coming from an Oklahoma State fan whose team brought in their Spratley, Figueroa, flipped Vega, brought in Jamison, Swiderski, flipped Robideau, brought in Facundo, and Welsh, and that is just the guys on their roster this year. Last year they had wrestlers that were previously on different rosters at 125, 141, 157, 165, 174, and 285. But yeah, let's blame Bassett for making college into a professional sport. Give me a break. I hope you're criticizing Taylor and staff for flipping guys with previous commitments and bringing in guys from other teams if you're going to criticize a high schooler for changing his mind.

The looking over I was talking about was to the previous speaker, William Bryan. Let's look at exactly what Trump said. Trump is clearly asking William Bryan about what can be tested. And the words on disinfectant by injection is clearly a question. "Is there a way"... In no way does it make a suggestion for people to inject disinfectants into their body. Now ask yourself what do you believe Trump said. Now ask yourself why do you believe Trump said that. It did not come from your own mind. The answer is because the media told you a lie.

All Data Contains Errors Just get comfortable with that fact before we move on. What we think we know is not always knowable. Details get lost to time. Mistakes get made (and missed) and become official. But it is OK. We can live with the uncertainty, the nagging sense of doubt, or at least acknowledge our history contains errors, and it will still be OK. The sun will rise; the roses will smell just as sweet; and our loved ones will still love us (or at a minimum, tolerate me). Why do I bring this up? Because by the end of this post I may need to break someone’s heart. I don’t want to, but the power of the data compels me. As many of you know @cowcards has built a fantastic resource for housing the history of wrestling. And as was mentioned above cowcards, @grogs84 and I have been working on taking the wrestlingstats brackets and feeding them into a database with an eye to extending that resource further. Of course there were errors in our manual process. So, some QA work was required. SPOILER: It turns out a whole lot of QA work was required. Team Scores? One idea we had was to use the individual match database to score every past tournament using the rules that existed at the time of each tournament and using the rules that exist today. Besides being interesting it also aided us in finding our mistakes. We could use the history document published annually by the NCAA that contains every past team score to check our own work. It was my hope that we would find our tiny number of errors this way. Oh, those were some sweet, innocent days. There Were How Many Differences? When all was said and done there were over 750 team score differences to track down between 1950 and 2025 (out of almost 5,300 team scores). Sigh. Every single one had to be researched. Most of those differences boiled down to our imperfect understanding of how the rules were applied from year to year. One thing about NCAA wrestling is that it has had an absurd number of rule changes for scoring the tournament. In football a TD has always been six points, in basketball a FT has always been 1 point, and a win is a win is a win. But not in wrestling. Oh, no. We cannot make it that easy. We need to change the value of everything all the time, and we need to be careful to not keep close, detailed records because we love a sense of mystery. After a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth (and a fair amount of consulting with @gimpeltf) we have been able to reduce the total number of differences to about 100 team scores with an average absolute difference of 0.89 points. On information and belief we think a lot of those differences are likely to be the result of human error in the score keeping process. We will publish everything soon, so that the army of internet sleuths can tell us where we went wrong (or right?). Forgiven Me @ionel For I have Sinned (against the Cowboys, so not like a mortal sin) Now on to a few situations where we know the NCAA scores are wrong: Wyoming 2011 – The NCAA has them in 28th place with 21 points. But if you score the brackets, they have 31 points, good enough for 21st place. Either the brackets for 2011 contain unprecedented errors (they don’t or else it would affect other team scores), or whoever typed this up for the NCAA hit a 2 instead of a 3. Hobart 1978 – Who the hell is Hobart? Well, there is no Hobart. There is a Humboldt though. Oops. Oklahoma State 1950 – With sincere apologies to ionel, this one is modestly consequential. In 1950 Oklahoma’s Bill Borders placed fourth at 121, good for 1 team point. Unfortunately, that team point was accidentally awarded to Oklahoma State (Oklahoma A&M at the time) resulting in Oklahoma State being credited with a fourth-place tie with Syracuse at 10 team points. How do we know this? Because this is one of the few years that they showed their work in the NCAA Wrestling Guide. Here we have Borders with a fourth-place finish: And here we have Oklahoma State with the point Borders earned: Moving that team point to its rightful owner, Oklahoma, moves them up from a tie for twelth to a tie for tenth. But it also moves Oklahoma State down from a tie for fourth to solo fifth. We are going to need you to send that team trophy back. On your dime. To show the power of these types of errors to become canon and persist unquestioned, it is even carried to this day in the Oklahoma State Media Guide: If You Have Come This Far... If you are still reading this, and I doubt you are at this point, I want to tease again that we will soon have this data up on cowcards' website. We still need to finish some 1929 - 1949 QA and get a little more disciplined around reason codes and the like, but be assured it is coming soon to a website near you. I also intend to start using the detail to publish some visuals and the like on the site. Not sure what yet. Lets see what tickles my fancy.

106: Keegan Bassett 4-0 day 1 all inside of 6 Shiloh Joyce 4-0 all bonus including a 13-4 over hudson chittum he has been super impressive 113: The margins at this weight have been very small and everyone has beaten everyone aside from one guy Brandon Bickerton 4-0 beat Caleb noble 10-6 and Braiden lotier 14-7 he did have a 12-11 win over Anthony garza but overall he has looked very very good to me. Jamison Forrest 1-3 everyone knows Jax but Jamison is really good very good scrambler and has some very good low ankle attacks. Needs to continue to work on his baseline defense and seems to get a bit overzealous on the mat Anthony garza 2-2 has a win over Noble and Jamison 10-8 loss to austin brown and 12-11 loss to Bickerton. Was not super familiar with him before this event but he is a lot of fun to watch very bright future once he refines some things 120: Dom Munaretto looks awesome. This is probably the best I have seen him wrestle in about 2 years I think he is finally the size of the weight he is wrestling. Alex rozas 4-0 he is not going to blow the doors off of guys but he is super stingy 126: Ignacio Villasenor 4-0 he looks very very good. He has recently shown quite a bit of variance in his results so I am eager to see how he does day 2 but on day 1 he was awesome and I think he could knock of Mills who has not looked quite as dominant as he has previously. dont love to highlight guys struggling but Tommy marchetti is 0-4 and has given up a major or worse in all 4 matches. I am a big fan of the marchettis so I have to wonder if he may be sick. 132: Moses mendoza beat Karson brown 17-6 he looks AWESOME. Dale corbin 4-0, I have been a huge fan of Dale for years and I think in the last 6 months or so he has really been hitting his stride excited to potentially see him against Mendoza 138: Kellen wolbert 3-0 the recent Michigan commit looks awesome as usual. He bumped up to 144 for a match and put it on rocco Cassioppi 10-4 but the match was not that close. Camden Baum is doing his thing super stingy never breaks his stance handfights hard hes 4-0 would be excited for him vs wolbert Jesse Grajeda 4-0 I still feel like there are times where he just coasts, but when hes attacking he is so damn good. The rest of the weight is much of the same with guys losing to one guy and beating a guy that beat that guy. Northern Illinois announced today they'll be a Pac affiliate starting 26-27 season. Pac needs at least 1 more to maintain AQ status for wrestling. I imagine they'll pry some of the Big12 affiliates away . . .

When I thought I could not see anything more out of line than what RV pushes, you one-up him. Just a few facts, and you can carry on. Exceptions to PCA have always been in place for the protection of federal property and or functions when local authorities are unable or decline to provide adequate security (that last part is critical). Also, the National Guard, if directed by a Governor, falls outside of the PCA. If they are federalized, you are correct, and they are subject to PCA, but again, except for the whole protection of Federal Property, and locals not offering assistance. Are you simply for no borders, no immigration law, and no enforcement? If not, then what is your suggested solution to the issue? Were you enraged when Obama deported millions?

Has had issue since 2023. Second herniated disc in 2025 led to delayed final X. Yikes. Just had surgery. This crap isn’t worth it. Neck / spine crap is hard core. I’m no doctor but from my cheap seats … as much as I love watching the guy wrestle …. Seems like it is time to prioritize long term health. No more active wrestling. This stuff is scary. Have a life. New movie about NCAA Champion Mark Kerr, played by the Rock, comes out in theatres this weekend. Looks decent and has some good early reviews. Also, I went back and looked at the bracket from 1992 when Kerr beat Couture. What a list of names in every bracket.
