These are the kinds of posts I want from the notable guys that cover our sport.6 points

There are clergy services, medical services, legal services, and a judge(s) on site for the purpose of expediting the hearings (due process) for the detained illegal immigrants. There is even full air conditioning in each of the units. As stated the true measure will be if innocents end up there for periods of time, and/or if the hearings process as laid out does not come to fruition. At that point, you may have something. But as it's planned and laid out it is not at all what you describe.5 points

also, fwiw, i did talk to the author of the Daily Collegian article. and i did talk to Sydney Bartlett at length. has anyone else?4 points

i never heard anything remotely close to this. there were always accusations that psu messed around with performance enhancers, and it's been said that Carter is a handful and a pain in the ass, but i've never heard anything (prior to this) about bullying or inappropriateness in any way. you guys are right that upon the first post (by Beau on the psu forum) i took this less seriously. to me it sounded like locker room beef. when the article came out, it became clear that it wasn't that simple (to put it mildly).4 points

The core issue is that what we are calling journalists are really people who are self promoting and therefore trying to win every popularity contest. So we either have that, or Mineo who is functioning as a journalist in the sense that he screams every stupid rumor he can find, but has no actual commitment to the truth. So we have people who can't handle negative attention and people who act like attention is zero/sum, when we need someone who doesn't care about attention at all and just deals with truth.4 points

Bo rn Bo took the heat off of Braeden, and Synder took the heat off of Bo. Now someone else from the NLWC needs to make some embarrassing news to shift the focus off of Snyder. I think Starocci would be up for it4 points

Lewan was 4-2 in his 6 OT matches, the same winning % as Morningstar (6-3). But with 9 OT matches Morningstar is the King of the "But, Wait. There Is More" Hill. But the real King of the Deep Water was Illinois' John Lockhart. Across the 2001 and 2002 tournaments he went to OT 7 times and he got his hand raised 7 times.3 points

I wouldn’t be surprised if Rath and Stillwell both RS, leaving a mix of Stoner and Jacobi Jackson to handle 285. I looked over the roster today, Mizzou sits at 31. If they are to be at 30, someone else will not make the cut. The black and gold could give us a better preview of what the team could/should look like.3 points

Who are these 'many observers' you are talking about and where have you found them. I am seriously curious. I have been following this very closely as it is in my back yard (and this is a very slow holiday week). Have not seen one mention challenging this point. There is footage of the AC units, and the units running. This would be evidence it has AC.3 points

This is an incentives issue …. Like sooo many other issues. Media that focuses on wrestling, and who require access to key leaders, coaches, wrestlers to be able to create content that results in themselves getting paid, will do their damn best to avoid throttling their access to the key people. Note, action that threatens access to NON-key people but would result in good clicks and revenue, that action is much more likely to occur. Thus there is disparity in negative coverage at times. What we are wishing for is that the sport would be big enough for there to be journalists that are more objective and more willing to probe, seek, and report without fear of reprisal that would damage their money making potential. There would be a big enough market for info - driving revenue to these people. We are far far from that spot. I kinda feel for the media guys today — in a tough spot. I do think they need to think harder about disparaging those bringing forth claims.3 points

Big fan. He's a great communicator, very personable (important traits for working with athletes, admins, and donors alike). Has been quietly building up a solid resume. Looking forward to what he can do in my favorite state!3 points

I have no idea if this applies to Arnold (doubt it, based on my understanding of the parameters) but it could be one possible explanation should be fine his way onto a team for next season2 points

The more I listen to the The "quad pod" cast , the more I like it. 4 hosts who manage to have a nuanced discussion or debate on current topics or news without yelling at each other or talking down to, berating, or ranting at wrestling fans. So far, none of the hosts have called D1 wrestlers pu$$ies so they clear that low hurdle of ethics and professionalism. They also manage to do an entire episode, sometimes spanning nearly 2 hours, without spitting into a cup so there's that too2 points

Your path tool is pretty rad. If you have all of Billy Baldwin's wrestling connections, you could see all the college wrestlers that are 6 degrees or less away from Kevin Bacon. Billy is 1 degree of separation away from Kevin Bacon (Flatliners).2 points

Wow, not related at all, but stumbled across it. Ryan Morningstar wrestled in 9 overtime matches in 19 matches at the NCAA tournament. He had 5 in a row spanning the 2009 and 2010 tournaments.2 points

there's this new thing. and i gotta get better versed on it, but it's called a DSA or Designated Student Athlete. it's a product of the 30-man roster limit and has ramifications for the rest of one's career (and, i think, the school that picks him up) i'll get some more clarity on it.2 points

that's not what anyone said, and a distinction that everyone seems to be glossing over. you can write about it, you can talk about it, but you can't position the allegations as facts. you can't condemn or indict based on allegations, no matter how true you think the allegations are. that's just sloppy and irresponsible. i ain't doing it, that's for sure, and you can all hate away on me or call me whatever you want.2 points

It’s okay to support law enforcement in upholding immigration laws. What evidence suggests that “Alligator Alcatraz” merchandise is gloating at suffering? This is not bad (below). Most Americans support deporting illegal aliens and deterring future illegal immigration. The facility’s rapid construction and planned due process efficiency is impressive. While you focus on victimization, others focus on National Sovereignty.2 points

Well with the footage of the running air conditioning units on site, it could be a lesson that your......."many observers" (or one random X user).....maybe cannot always be trusted, and that it is actually very clear that the accusation (from one random X user) is not founded.2 points

Journalists go after the stories, often to a fault. The Flo guys are paid off, nervous, and/or unqualified for these Penn State screwups. Or their bosses are. This isn’t the normal content.2 points

As was just mentioned by Dark Energy we all know wrestling isn't a big media market. It's incestuous. Our "journalist" media personalities know these wrestlers and their families on a personal level. I even notice the same dynamic in major media markets and how the local sportscaster in a major city approach an athlete's personal matter vs national media. The dynamics are different and there would be more freedoms if an outside news source picked up the story2 points

I think that the portal is just a formal way to say that you are open to transferring. It doesn't seem like there are any actual regulations on changing schools. Unenroll, get dismissed, quit, who knows.. You can join any team for second semester.2 points

I am very excited to see what Ware can do at NCU. I do think Nickerson did a great job there, but it seems to be a good hire with a lot of upside. Best of wishes to NCU and Ware.2 points

These are content creators. A journalist would seek comment from all the parties. And if they did not receive comments they would say as much.2 points
-
Wrestling doesn't really have journalist in the traditional sense. They have content creators. When was the last time a story came out that the subject of the story didn't bless? Even when stories do come out, the "wrestling media" will often make comments like, I heard about this previously or I got a text saying something similar but didn't want to say anything or it wasn't my news to share, etc... There probably isn't a market ($$) for a reporter and information would probably dry up quickly if stuff was actually reported when its first learned about. I don't have an issue with this but the confusion between what is wrestling media/journalist and a content creator seems to be really bothering people that want the sport to be covered like basketball and football.2 points

Disagreeing is a good thing, as a process of coming to common ground. It’s the very core foundation that built the greatest country in the world. And this whole R vs D and if you disagree with me you’re an idiot who shouldn’t be listened to mentality, is at the core of what will tear it apart. This place could be a good spot for wrestling brethren to discus world and national topics in a productive way. Unfortunately it’s mostly adults running around like elementary kids on the playground. Yes you and I haven’t seen eye to eye the majority of the time, but if you and I were just to have a simple discussion and ask me “how do you feel about (enter any national/international issue here)” you’d probably find we’d be in agreement a lot. On the contrary, I’d be open to listen to what anyone, for example RV and/or anyone he’s constantly in spate with, have to say about any issue, if they didn’t act like such jerks.2 points
-
That’s a pretty strong statement about a very large portion of the country. I assume you want people to respect differences, right?2 points

For me, downplaying it when you only have one side of the story is the problem and I can see why the accusers are upset. There is clearly some evidence of wrong doing, otherwise, in the sue happy world we live in, there would be defamation lawsuits for the original article. CS was added to USA wrestling's "Interim Membership Suspension" list and booted from NLWC; Why, if it's a "nothing burger"? But, I do agree with others in this group that Willie/Flo/Basch/Mineo/etc. (whom I would call "wrestling enthusiast's" instead of "journalists") use their platforms to make money, and it's hard to get the clickbait needed if you lose your inside track by saying something that may upset your sources. I can't blame them for that...if only everyone was lucky enough to cover their sport for a living. It's a sensitive topic, so people are always going to be unhappy...1 point
