The PPL Center (capacity around 8,200) looks to be sold out. We kick off with one of two bouts where Lehigh has the higher ranked wrestler. 125 Lilledahl (16) v Seymour (15)3 points

Barr looks like a serious NC contender. I can't wait for him to get into the meat of the schedule. He has a chance to wrestle Buchanan, Cardenas and even Elam in duals this year.3 points

Fun fact: Levi Haines' two state finals losses (he went 2-2-1 in his 3 trips) were to Lehigh's 125 and 133 lbers.3 points

Same. I figured Beard would win, with the odds of a Barr upset about the same as Beard putting up bonus. I didn't have Barr winning by bonus on the radar. Per Wrestlstat, that's only the third time in 7 years of NCAA competition anyone's put up bonus on Beard, the other two being majors by Buchanan and Hidlay. If that's any indication, Barr is going to be a load.1 point

You're surprised that the murder of the CEO of the largest health insurance company in the country, which happened in the biggest city in the country, was caught on HD video, and the killer being a complete mystery and now on the run, is a big news story? This might be the single most notable assassination in the U.S. since John Lennon, and definitely the most notable since Tupac/Biggie.1 point

I’d add Gene Mills in 1980. Tech falls were very likely introduced due to Mills. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk1 point

Levi Haines (2) v Rylan Rogers (UR) 1st - Haines misses a leg. Rogers reattacks and they scramble. Rogers in good position, but stops trying to improve. Stalemate. Haines goes for a leg again and Rogers makes it disappear again, but does not reattack. Haines finally finds it for the TD. He clearly has worked on his pull ups And the period ends 3-0 Haines. 2nd - Haines down and out. 4-0. Haines gets to the high leg and works for the TD. He turks Rogers and walks the foot to the head and gets the pinfall. 24-3 PSU1 point

Mitchell Mesenbrink (1) v Thayne Lawrence (UR) 1st - MM shoots in 1 sec again in 5 and gets the TD. MM cuts. shoots, scrambles and TD 6-1. 2 minutes to go. MM riding, and looking for the cradle. No deal. Stall on Lawrence. And it ends 6-1 with 2:30 of RT. 2nd - MM down and out in 7 seconds. On a leg right away and finishes. 10-1. 90 seconds to go. MM has the legs laced and gets 4 NF. 14-1 MM working for the pinfall, but only gets the NF. 19-1 TF. 18-3 PSU1 point

I completely agree. But to be fair, you want to test bottom here rather than in march. Winning CKLV is big, but knowing where you are might be more important moving forward. But like you said, Norman looks like a legitimate top 3 contender that shouldn't be taken lightly. He looked really powerful. Interested to see how he progresses in the next few months.1 point

Haha... I don't know which ones you have gone to, but the ones I have been to up until Tulsa two years ago, the first session on Saturday morning is about 1/4 full and the least attended session.... that's my point.1 point

That's a more diplomatic explanation than the truth - some coaches (and wrestlers) just need a stripper and coke fix before the holiday grind1 point

We definitely should have done some better studies on masks. I believe the one you’re referring to was in Bangladesh, and it found a statistically significant impact of about 11% - https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC9036942/. By definition, a statistically significant finding is a “meaningful difference.”1 point

I only jumped in the conversation because I thought your argument was disingenuous, not because I would say Kolat is the best on the list. Anyways, 1998 was just straight overturned. 1999 and 2000, he had to re-wrestle matches due to decisions made behind closed doors after he won those matches on the mat. And there were some other shenanigans afterward in 2000 to ensure he didn't make it out of his pool. Seriously, he had some egregious refereeing in 1997 followed by three consecutive years of having been declared the winner of a match only to have those results changed after the fact. Sure, he had the opportunity to re-wrestle the last two, but that's a pretty big mind-***duck**. I can't even fathom the level of resentment I would still harbor for the sport.1 point

Concussions are just one of those things you don't mess with. Saying a kid is faking is 1) impossible to prove, and 2) extremely bad faith and the ultimate adult child response. We had a kid on our team in college, absolute world beater, built like a brick sh*thouse, total monster in the room, and on the mat for the two occasions we were able to get him out there. Problem was, he had an issue with concussions. Flick him in the forehead the wrong way and congratulations, he can no longer retain anything that he reads for the next six months. This is not to be messed around with. Wrestling is a sport. It is of zero significance against the livelihood and wellbeing of the people who participate in it as athletes.1 point

This is the kind of thing you say to kids in grade school. The way Kolat got screwed multiple times represented some of the most blatant corruption we've seen in wrestling. He did what he needed to do, and they went behind closed doors and took matches away from him.1 point
