From a human standpoint, really feel for Dake. I know after the trials he said this one was going to be for his dad. Sending him positive vibes and well wishes because I’m sure this is devastating on multiple levels.8 points

I sure hope you didn't read any of it. That makes you an accessory after the fact.7 points

I don’t understand the disappointment in not getting a gold (yet). There was only one guy that was favored to win his weight and he got beat by a better guy today. It happens. We could still potentially get 5 medals out of 6 weights. That’s damn good. If you can look at it objectively: 57 - was never the favorite, randomly drawn in, and in his first big international competition at the senior level. Looks to be 50/50 with the former world champ and Olympic silver/gold. 65- TBD, but definitely not the favorite. In that 3/5 range where draw matters. Also going down in weight where he doesn’t ever look as good. 74 - favorite that was wrestled pretty perfectly and ends up with bronze (probably) 86 - never the favorite over Yazdani but a couple seconds from the finals. In that 2/5th range where draw matters. First big senior international competition. 97 - TBD, not the favorite, but capable of winning. 125 - not the favorite and in that 3/5 range where draw matters. Wrestled a bad match and that was it. When you’re in that range where you have to be on against good guys, you are going to have this type of thing happen here and there. If you’re on you have the chance to pull an upset and make the finals.5 points

Dake giving up that pushout shows how overrated he is. Someone should ask Cael if they even practice that situation. Got lucky in that match5 points

I will not take any more Kyle Snyder slander. He, like Yazdani, would be in GOAT conversation if there were not a pantheon all-timer. You are all damn fools for even thinking this. He had a single bronze slide outside of Sadulaev before what was either Taz's tourney of his life or the changing of the guard when Snyder was an old *and still producing* 27. You folkstyle morons need to gtfo and it shows.5 points

Seems to be gambling promotion on the regular. Distasteful. I enjoy their product as a whole but their pretty constant promotion and ‘excitement’ over gambling is in poor form. They do say be responsible. Hey, try cocaine - very exciting and fun, but be responsible.4 points

Zain gets Amouzad opening round and Azarpira vs Taz opening round! Tough draws! Snyder sitting pretty good in his quarter but is on Taz’s half4 points

Why is this getting so...contentious? The kid lost again when he was at the precipice of an achievement that would have put him in a particularly unique class. It has to be gut-wrenching. Finals in HS, NCAAs going for his 4th and the Olympics. Just...cut the young man a little slack. He didn't flip anyone off or take a shit on the flag, he was just disappointed with the result. I get it. The US has had a brutal Olympics(but also somehow...pretty successful I guess).4 points

All you see is gold. All you type is garbage. Hell, you can't even get the timing right.4 points

Takatani lifts Tsabalov looks at the crowd, asks their approval, then plants Tsabalov for fpur. 10-0. Are you not entertained?4 points

That is how champions think. Being happy for second place when you have trained for the pinnacle of your aspirations SHOULD leave you unhappy.3 points

I think he's good enough as an announcer that he could pick up other sports. He has a smooth calm presentation.3 points

IMHO... his wrestling announcer IQ is off the charts. Really good to listen to what he says about the wrestler going at each other, and what each is doing to get into there match. Keep at it Jordan! D33 points

I would have liked to have seen Spencer win, but i honestly thought higuchi was better. I would have liked Spencer to attack more, for sure. Regardless, i thought they had a good game plan. Controlled center. Was in line to get a possible passivity point. Also eliminated higuchis two greatest weapons: his dingle and his par terre. it came down to one scramble position that was winnable for either, but higuchi came out on top. im most concerned with USA lack of par terre offense outside of Lee and occasionally a fake gut wrench.3 points

Disagree about Spencer’s game plan… I think it was great. He needed to slow down Higuchi and he did it exceptionally. He simply lost the one key scramble to a fantastic wrestler. Now Parris with all those straight on shots, and Dake not lowering his stance and allowing him in on his legs were both bad match tactics.3 points

What are you talking about he looks like he wants to crawl in a hole and die, just like every other silver medalist who has to go up.3 points

At just about any point in the match, Lee controlled center throughout. In the end, the match was razor close and was decided in the margins, and the fact that the match had a period where Spencer was put on the clock and scored to avoid giving up the point, and Higuchi never was doesn't sit right with me, given how controlling center is usually called. It is what it is, Higuchi is obviously a worthy champ.3 points

Lee's strength stopped Higuchi's quickness on that low single. Match came down to one of the greatest scrambles in an Olympic final. A scramble that happened super quickly, but my brain processed, "Advantage Lee, Advantage Higuchi, Advantage Lee, Advantage Higuchi." Crazy stuff. I am entertained.3 points

Japan has some kind of "it" factor going on... they (especially their top tier) just seem so calm and wrestle with a lot of precision and very few mistakes... They legit could end up with multiple golds in Greco/mens/womens... I know they've always been tough but it seems more now they deserve to be in the conversation with Iran/Russia as toughest opponents to draw. Also, they don't seem to gas anywhere near as much as all of their competition. Sure they're tired but I rarely see them trying to gulp the air like everyone else...3 points

Japan was better than Dake today. He let him get to the ankle far to easily and let Japan control the match. It was close last time they wrestled and Japan got him this time. Move on.3 points

For anyone wondering where and when US wrestlers are up, the Olympic site actually is the best place for a schedule that I have seen. You can also get brackets if you click on any of the bouts (and navigate from there). This is today's schedule and order of bouts. https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/schedule/wrestling?day=9-august I haven't used it because I'm in person, but it says you can get live updates/reminders if you sign up by clicking the little ribbon thing for a match you want to favorite. Not sure how well it works or what it actually does though.3 points

I thought Higuchi was the favorite coming in, even when Micic was in the bracket. Still think that now. I think he is better on his feet and doesn't have any issues with a full high-paced match. Spencer certainly is more than capable of winning.3 points

Greco has come to a close. The US took home zero medals (with all due respect to all Olympians). That puts us behind Chile (1), Denmark (1), China (2), and Kyrgyzstan (3). Tomorrow we'll get it crackin' as follows. MFS Spicy Spencer Lee -- gold medal match Dake -- Day 1 Brooks -- bronze medal match Paris Parris -- Day 1 WFS Helen -- bronze medal match Miracle -- Day 12 points
