  2. It's a nice place to visit in any month that isn't August. I'd recommend staying in Le Marais. I'm not familiar with setting up a gofundme, but I'm aware of alternative funding methods such as earning a salary

  7. Despite a Yokozuna out with injury, and despite the loss to surgery of the impudent upstart Hakuoho (who almost won the last tournament as a complete rookie), the September basho started out very strong with a loud crowd in Tokyo. There are a number of storylines that provide interest. The top storyline has to be the two Ozekis (second-highest rank below Yokozuna) who are kadoban. That means they have to obtain a winning record in their 15 matches or lose their lofty rank. This is day three, and they have both lost a match. Oh my! They are each 2-1. Another major story is the rise of Hokutofuji. This fellow looks like a chubby accountant, but he is the ultimate pro. In fact, he reminds me of a slick shortstop with his crisp, clean movements (even in his pre-match routine). He is now 3-0, and he is responsible for defeating the two Ozekis. Hokutofuji challenged for the title during the last basho, and he is only looking stronger. A story that I'm very interested in is my favorite wrestler Hoshoryu, also known as the Golden Boy. He is another Ozeki, and he's already lost twice in three bouts! Not optimal. There has been an Ozeki curse for some time now, and I hope that Golden Boy doesn't fall under its spell. And finally, if you follow sumo or have read the reports here about the last tournament, you know that a fellow going by the name of NattoSumo has been putting the tournaments up on YouTube even though they are the property of the Japanese Sumo Federation and the Japanese TV giant NHK. Well, he's already had a couple videos removed in the last few days, so he's changed his name to JustinBeiberwrestling, apparently because YouTube would never ban Justin Beiber. These are today's matches, which went on YouTube a few hours ago. The video might not last long. Haha! That's Golden Boy, the Mongolian Ozeki in the picture. I also wanted to give you an action shot at 7:50 of the video showing the excitement of sumo. What you see below is Sadanoumi pushing Kotoshoho off of the elevated ring. Kotoshoho is flying out, while Sadanoumi is simply flying:

  8. https://www.declassified.live/p/judge-cannon-puts-jack-smith-on-trial?utm_source=profile&utm_medium=reader2 A few excerpts. I highly recommend reading this. In officially vacating the existing May 20 trial date—an impossibility considering the defendant will be in a Manhattan courtroom for the foreseeable future—Cannon declined to set another date, calling it “imprudent” at this stage of the process. She noted a “myriad” of unresolved matters in Special Counsel Jack Smith’s 42-count indictment against the former president and his two co-defendants, Mar-a-Lago employees Waltine Nauta and Carlos De Olivera, for willfully retaining national defense information and attempting to impede the government’s investigation. Cannon, however, did schedule a number of proceedings that could be considered a way to put the Department of Justice on trial. In a stunning turn of events, Cannon, appointed by Donald Trump in 2020, is poised to make Smith a defendant of sorts. Over the next several weeks, prosecutors will be forced to publicly counter defense motions that accuse the DOJ of selective and vindictive prosecution; insist the appointment of Smith is illegal; and claim that several parties, including Joe Biden’s White House, colluded behind the scenes as early as May 2021 to concoct the unprecedented case. ...In other words, the government officials prosecuting Trump with mishandling top-secret files--mishandled top-secret files. Finally someone, the judge in this case, is taking seriously the weaponization of the DOJ in this effort. I have never heard this before and like I said above, this is very interesting reading and I highly recommend people read up on this. The defense has uncovered things that the judge wants clarified by DOJ. DOJ will have a very hard time justifying what it has done in targeting Trump in this case. They may be successful but it is an uphill battle. No wonder Jack Smith, the special prosecutor, wanted to rush this to court. In my opinion, he knows he has a very weak case based on the defense findings and didn't want that to come out. It looks like at the very least, the judge is interested in getting all of this out in the open, even if the news media and D's don't want it to and don't want to acknowledge this is happening. https://reason.com/volokh/2024/05/11/judge-aileen-cannon-is-a-heroine/ https://www.newyorker.com/news/daily-comment/whats-holding-up-trumps-florida-case These are two articles that seems to say similar things as the above. So not wholly unsubstantiated. mspart

  22. Either it is between those three or the original favorite, Mizzou, still has it in the bag. I hope Michigan, but I think he can't go wrong with Michigan or OSU. OSU has a staff that was intricately involved with Kerk for the last many years. Michigan has the guy who beat Kerk last in collegiate folkstyle (and he did so three times that season).

  24. Thinking about everyone in the NCAA I feel like Hamiti has the most untapped potential. I cannot even think of a guy that could hope to push him in that room nor did he have coaches that could get the most out of his style. He has always showed moments of brilliance (the first 5 minutes against MM) I think the sky could truly be the limit for him in this new training environment.

  29. This looks like a good one: Biography My dissertation is on fantasies of limitless energy in the transatlantic Romantic imagination from 1760-1860. My goal is to write a prehistory of metabolic rift, Marx's term for the disruption of energy circuits caused by industrialization under capitalism. I am particularly interested in theories of the imagination and poetry as interpreted through a Marxian lens in order to update and propose an alternative to historicist ideological critiques of the Romantic imagination. Prior to joining Columbia, I worked as a political strategist for leftist and progressive causes and remain active in the higher education labor movement.

  31. How can a water main break in Atlanta, unplanned and unneeded building evacuation in Detroit, flash drive losses in Milwaukee, and other random events that all occurred within minutes of each other on a particular night and helped one specific person be considered to be caused by a very interested party that has its sole goal as helping that one specific person? RIdiculous (and criminal) to question these random and totally unrelated topics. Nothing to see here. Move along, America, and sin no more via your silly noticing of things that don't make sense and are impossible to have happened randomly.

  33. IWB... I was stationed @ MCAS Futenma in Okinawa from May 1978 to May 1979. Beside getting the daily results of the seasonal sumo tournaments in the Stars & Stripes sport section, the locals that run air station barber shops would have the sumo tournaments playing on their portable B&W TV's. Remebered the Yokozunas at the time... Kitanoumi, Wakanohama, Mienoumi, and the Great Wajima. Plus the Hawaiian , Jesse Kuhaulua aka Takamiyama Daigorō w/the highest ranking of sekiwake. Sumo during my tour in Okinawa left quite an impression on me, to say at least. Didn't follow it much afterwards, other an occasional ESPN2 showing of a tournament. D3

  36. Sumo is not nearly as dangerous. Seriously, these guys don't wear helmets, frequently fall from a platform 24 inches above the ground with another fatty landing on top of them, can slap faces hard, and I've never seen anybody wearing a mouth guard. It's nuts.
