Really man? Even the Yankees need the smaller-market programs to play. Plus, that's 30 wrestlers every recruiting cycle that are now unlikely to ever become future coaches, officials, etc.4 points

Man thanks for all of the kind words guys - genuinely means a lot. Planning on doing more of this type of video - especially rolling into the Olympics. It's tough during the regular season (college) cus our video guys travel most weekends and then I practically spend all day Monday on rankings but the new studio will help with pumping these out with more frequency. And for the record, Christian, JD and Tyler are some of my closest friends (so I'm obviously biased) - they do a great job with FRL. I understand the rabbit trails and jokes aren't for everyone but idk of another wrestling podcast that puts out the content they do with the same level of competitence and consistency.2 points

Agree with all of this. Hamiti was getting to MM's legs and finishing, and he's the better scrambler due to his length. I think he got injured during the match. People saw him hobbling his way back to the locker room. You can also see him limping after the handshake in the Big Ten videos on Youtube. I'll be rooting for Hamiti over Carr because I think a match with KOT would be more interesting than seeing Carr-KOT again. MM is super fun though and I'd like to see him win it all next week.2 points

I have PSU at 7.64 AAs. Over simplifying the numbers, you could say that is a 64% chance of 8 and a 36% of 9. But you could as easily spread those probabilities across more possibilities, even from 0 to 10. That assumes wrestling to the average result (which is a little below seed). But as PSU has a history of wrestling to seed, And let's face it, Starocci's probability of AAing from the #9 seed is a tad higher than the normal 9 seed. But maybe Davis' probability should also be below a normal #1 seed. So, I think I talked myself back to 7.64 But if you want to give Starocci the bump, and not discount Davis, then the are highly likely to get 8 with a chance of 9. Next closest is NC State at 5.56 (i,e. 56% chance of 6, 44% chance of 5).2 points

Yep. Anything the gov touches turns to shit. Except for NPS of course.2 points

RV's assertion that the simple way to stop inflation is to take money away from people. Voila! No longer do we have too much money chasing too few goods. But he must add a second step. Immediately burn the money. DO NOT GIVE IT TO GOVERNMENT!!! Because for every dollar you give to government the government will spend 110% to 120% of it. So if RV is unwilling to finish his easy method - i.e. limit current spending by all government entities to 25% of GDP (In other words, give Pharoah 1/4 of the productive output of my life) then he might be on to something. But if he proposes taking the money to give to a bunch of imbeciles with incentive to give it all away and then further shackle my grandchildren with more crushing debt then there is nothing easy about it.2 points

Based on his performance last year, coupled with expectations and the "PSU bump," it seems as if Nagao has choked himself quite a bit. This could all change next weekend, but whatever happens, a bunch of people named Aaron will remind us that its "all part of God's plan."2 points

I was thinking about how unlikely it is to have two true freshman as the 1 and 2 seed at a weight (125). Then I thought maybe it is not that big a deal if they were already a big deal, so I look at where they were on Willie's Big (Deal) Board. Turns out they came from well outside the top 15-20, which is where most champs come from, if I recall correctly. But Cade DeVos takes the cake for the most unlikely given where he was ranked coming out of high school. At least he has had some time to marinate in the SDSU room.2 points

I don't know of it happening at D1 nationals, but I would have to dig a little to find out. I can come back this week with an answer for sure. However, the Lackman brothers wrestled for a national title in D3 last year. That was the first time any had met in a final. The NAIA has had their fair share of instances because they allow 2 entries at a weight.2 points

My two cents probably is worth about that much, but here's my opinion. I think "duck" matches are a bane to the sport from a fan's perspective. Of course we all want to see premium matches ike Starocci/Griffith or Fix/Crookham, but we're being selfish aren't we? Crookham has never wrestled Fix before and has rapidly improved in the last year. Fix is about the same as he was last year prior to NCAAs. Why should John Smith let Crookham test himself against Fix at this point? Fix is a tricky guy to beat and Crookham probably has never wrestled anybody exactly like Fix before. The less experience the rapidly improving Crookham gets against Fix, the better from John Smith's perspective. OSU only get's Fix's points at NCAAs one more time. I certainly like Fix's chances better without Crookham having experience against him. Regarding Griffith/Starocci, Griffith barely beat PSU's 2nd team guy, Barraclough. Barraclough is AA strength though (in my opinion). I can understand a coach holding out guys in dual meets, especially when a team is so superior to the other that you can put in one of your reserves to get a little mat time. Perhaps Cael didn't see the point of Griffith/Starocci for one reason or another but saw a lot of upside for one of his better reserves to get a some Big 10 experience agaisnt a tough opponent. I know if I was a coach with a great wrestling team that I'd be putting in some reserves whenever I had the opportunity, that would help keep the wear and tear of the starters down until the important tournaments at the end of the year and get more experience for reserves, especially ones destined to be starters next season. Probably most of the time the wrestlers actually want to wrestle the other guy and sometimes maybe they are a little too brave for their own good, and the coaches are protecting them by making them sit (unlikely, most wrestling coaches are sadists). Sometimes it's probably for seeding purposes, sure, but I doubt the wrestlers are making the call in those situations.1 point

All of those are definitely within the realm of possibility. But to have all of them happen in the same tournament?! That would be an astronomically low chance. And they would probably need every single one of them to happen for them to not win. PS you forgot Brooks L to Hidlay1 point

General information Entry Fee: $20 paid to VakAttack via Venmo The field has been confirmed as follows: Draft: Sunday, March 17, 2023 @ 1:00pm EDT (last year's draft lasted ~2-1/2 hours) Link to Draft Board (I recommend you bookmark this link, as I will make scoring updates after each session in this file) Once everyone is logged into the draft, I’ll randomly sort the participant list to determine draft order. Draft picks will be made in this thread, facilitated by VakAttack (i.e., he’ll prompt you to pick if you’re running slow.) I will log the pick on the Draft Board as it is made. Time to make your selection will be loosely policed at 1 minute. The selection process will take place in a reversing-snake pattern. i.e., the selection order works as follows: Round 1: 1 through 15 Round 2: 15 through 1 Note: #1 and #15 will make two consecutive picks as the order reverses itself round-to-round Each participant selects a wrestler for each weight class (125-285), plus one ‘Wild Card’. The ‘Wild Card’ can be selected any time during the draft process. The penalty for excessive lateness during a selection will result in the pick being skipped for that round, and that pick moved to the end of draft. (VakAttack’s discretion). Withdrawal/Replacement Policy (a.k.a., the "Jerry Callo / Connor McGonagle Rule"): Keep in mind you are picking a wrestler, not a bracket position. If your selection does not make weight, fails skin check, or pulls a Suriano... you are stuck with that guy. If your selection withdrawals from the tournament prior to 5pm EDT on Wednesday, you can make a replacement pick. You need to let @VakAttack and @lu_alum know the name of your replacement pick prior to weigh-ins on the first day of the tournament (Thursday, 10am EDT). Zoom We're setting Zoom up on a trial basis this year, with the thought it may help to move picks along more quickly if folks aren't frequently refreshing their forum chat browser. Zoom is completely optional - official picks will be made/posted in this forum chat thread. If you want to connect via Zoom, send me @lu_alum a PM with your email address & I'll send the link. Scoring All eleven selections (125-285, plus WC) count toward the participants summary score. Scoring will be downloaded from TrackWrestling (data provided using My Wrestlers) at the end of each round and updated/published on the same Google Sheet used for the Draft. I recommend that you create a list with your wrestlers on Track to double check my math. Payout I believe we paid top the top three last year. VakAttack runs the money side of this operation. Suggestions I highly recommend that you open two browser windows. One to monitor this selection thread and make picks; the other to monitor the draft board (follow the selection order & see who is still available on the Draft Board). NOTE: You will need to refresh the thread frequently to keep up with selections being made and avoid missing your turn due to a time penalty. If you weren't already aware, the F5 key will do this. The Draft Board will update in real time. We often forget the context for this passage. Jesus is answering his disciples' question about how it could be possible to carry on with your life if you do what Jesus has just said and sell all your possessions and give the proceeds to the poor. It's a legit question. Jesus, as is his won't, responds with the esoteric aphorism quoted above "For mortals it is impossible; but for God all things are possible." Understably, Peter is not satisfied with this non-answer; so, he says, "Look, we have left everything and followed you. What then will we have?" Jesus responds that they will receive abundant recompense, I.e the "manifold" and "eternal life." However, it is not clear what this "manifold" is or if it is to be received in the here and now or when. It doesnt help that Jesus closes the chapter with "But many who are first will be last, and the last will be first." (Thanks for the clarification!) The issue with reading this passage as an assurance that God will repay the sacrifice with worldly glory and riches is that Jesus's whole point is that these things should be abandoned. Why would Jesus reward a rejection of worldly achievement with worldly achievement? I think a better reading of "through God, all things are possible" is faith and keeping the law will show you the righteousness of giving everything away . . . even though you can't actually do it.1 point

Heavenly Father, As I, Aaron Brooks, lace up my shoes and prepare to step onto the mat, I pause to acknowledge Your presence in this journey. You have blessed me with strength, determination, and the spirit of a warrior, and for that, I am eternally grateful. Lord, I ask that You guide my movements and sharpen my instincts. Let my training manifest in every takedown, every escape, and every point I score. May my actions reflect the discipline and respect I have for this sport and my opponents. Grant me the courage to face each challenge with a steadfast heart, and the humility to accept victory or defeat with grace. Help me to remember that through You, all things are possible, and that every battle I face is an opportunity to glorify Your name. Protect me from injury, and let my performance today be a testament to the hard work and dedication that has brought me to this moment. May I compete with honor, and should I emerge victorious, let it be a victory for You. In Your holy name, I pray, Amen.1 point

Is there really a point to looking to next year with the transfer rule? PSU has 2 guys who AA'd at other schools last year and a #2 seed who was RS at another school last year. 3 new AAs that no one would of predicted at this time last year. Michigan brought in 5 AAs from other schools. Iowa got 2 AAs from NDSU. Next weekend is more of a recruiting trip for some schools.1 point

Since everything here is about Iowa/Penn State I'll add one question: how is Michigan doing at developing talent? I ask because they appear to have nailed being the destination of choice for an All American to xfer in and load up the lineup. Kudos to them for having that reputation there. Is it something about their RTC/Olympic prep or is it just good vibes and trust in Bormet getting them to dominate the portal? That said, what does it say about Michigan that good-not great guys like DeAugustino can come in and swipe a roster spot when you got guys like Beard having to leave Penn State cuz Max Dean is gonna come take his spot at 197. Penn State is clearly levels ahead. I want to know about the battle between Ohio State, Michigan, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State at developing and retaining talent. Why is Davison coming to Michigan over Iowa? Why is Cannon coming for a crowded Ragusin spot over battling Teske at Iowa? Maybe it was a team decision to transfer into Michigan as a group to a better academic university.1 point
