  4. You're right from the perspective of growing wrestling media in general and the competition should help yield a better overall product. It's just that the fan now has a more complicated and expensive way of trying to gain access to it all. I think this opens up an opportunity for an aggregator/middle man to step in - simplifying it into a single price and then each offering becomes like a channel

  5. Checking the HATER METER for Keegan O'Toole. And, and, and, it's empty. He's a stud. Congrats to stupid Missouri for coming out strong in every match, looking for takedowns and mostly getting them. The bright spots for the ILLINI were the two true freshmen, Kannon Webster and Chris Moore. Coach Poeta said at intermission that his guys were "respecting them too much." As usual, he was right. Great production, Jim Gibbons and David Taylor did a fantastic job, no buffering, high resolution cameras, good replays at the end of matches, no commercials during the broadcast. Zero complaints from me about the show they put on. This is how we grow the sport. I hate Missouri. #FREEJORDAN! .

  7. Not possibly, 100% was the plan for him to redshirt. I believe after he won his first in an interview he said if it wasn’t for the “free year” he was going to redshirt.

  10. Rogan is the #1 Podcaster in the world. Polarizing? Perhaps. If you are sensitive. I seriously don't think you listen to all of Rogans podcasts, because he doesn't belabor most of what you said. I listen daily and he doesn't go on about the Covid and vaccines for 30 minutes. Bo isn't new to Joe's radar. Joe has discussed him on several occasions with multiple guests. He interviews people he finds interesting, Rogan has guests from all sectors, entertinment, comedy, business, environmental, philosophy etc. as well as political. Theo Von, Shane Gillis, Elon Musk. Askren, Jocko, Cormier, Jordan Peterson, Bill Maher. Foret Gallante, Glen Villaneuve. etc. He extremely articulate in most areas. Much of his content is taken from current events. He talks about Biden because he's a babbling idiot who has some news worthy mishap on a daily basis. He also talks about Trump becasue he's just the opposite. For Instance Bo spoke about his day spent with Trump.

  11. racist behavior is bad. they discriminated against any white person who wanted to be in the picture
    2 points
  12. That doesnt make it racist. Being racist is being prejudice towards a different race. Regardless of how "united" you think we all should be, people of other skin color will ALWAYS exist and some races history aren't as long as others. For them to be proud of their progress, again, isnt racist. What an absolutely horrendous take.

  16. The wrestlers seem to care a little, like when they took that picture a few years back of all the black national champs, which I thought was a cool thing to do. Yes, people should all be treated the same but it’s still okay to be aware of your own/other people’s heritage.

  19. “Once the gov got involved”. So, since the beginning of publicly funded education in the US? The 1700s? US attainment relative to the rest of the world has dropped because our public funding of education has actually dropped (as a percentage of GDP) while other countries outspend us and/or keep increasing their funding. Then, combined with cultures that actually value education, they magically get better results. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. Why are some people hating on the UFC....or for that matter Flo, Rokfin, Espn+, Big10, ACC network, Big12 network, etc.? The UFC joining the streaming game actually makes sense....and is potentially a great way to grow the sport as far as worldwide viewership. Its no different then Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, Disney, etc. Fight Pass offers a different production quality with unique venues....a barn in Wyoming got over 10million views on social media....pretty impressive. Do FLo, Rokfin, UFC join forces???? Who knows but with the UFC entering the platform it cant be anything but good for the sport, athletes, and coaches.

  24. Good morning, folks. We are nearly two months into the college season and 125 is exactly the mess I said it would be. But that’s a problem for the Ranker’s Guild and not me. Plenty of questions from some heavy hitters in the wrestling industry today and time is of the essence so let’s jump right into it so you can get ready for Festivus tomorrow and air some grievances. Thoughts on the Ivy League going their own way as of 2024-25? Seton Hall Pirate It’s certainly interesting, but I hope it doesn’t have a negative impact on the EIWA with losing some marquee teams. I’ve always liked the idea of this wrestling-only conference that’s still going strong for well over 100 years. Perhaps we can fill the gaps with whatever is left of the PAC-12 and just absorb them into it. With the invention of the airplane by the Wright Brothers, the world has become a much smaller place. I’m sure the boys at Hofstra wouldn’t mind leaving Long Island for a California getaway in late January. I also hope it can open the doors for a Yale or a Seton Hall to bring back a wrestling program and join any of these conferences. Wishful thinking, I know. The best thing to do is break off some teams from the MAC and even it out a bit. Will InterMat hire another person to cover the new Ivy League tournament or just add it to Austin Sommer’s workload while increasing his pay? Kevin McGuigan Only if he uses the name Dallas WInter and ties a sweater around his neck. If you’re going to be the Ivy League guy then BE the Ivy League guy. Drive a BMW. Play croquet every Sunday. Join a yacht club. Live the gimmick. What criteria should be used in the best ranking systems? Here are ideas for things to be considered: Hair Great hang Shoe size How many pull-ups they can do Can they dunk? Are their school’s singlets and warmups cool? Favorite movie Kevin Claunch You just made Sonny Sasso number one and he’s still in redshirt. I would also very much like to know how many wrestlers can actually dunk. I bet Trent Hidlay tries every single day and just doesn’t accept that he’s a wide-bodied defensive specialist built to pull down rebounds in the paint. For the love of god, what do we have to do to make duals matter all year? I think Goody and I have the best ideas. Why don't others see it? Nick Kosko Is your idea to put pork roll and Taylor Ham on the line for every dual? But seriously, I don’t have the answer. Richard Immel may have the answer with the ranking series angle he proposed last night on X (formerly known as Twitter) but I doubt it will ever get past the discussion stage. If this is about the lack of headline matches in duals, or what some people call ducking, I’m afraid you’re not going to change that with any type of new system or team championship. I try to stay away from the ducking term, because I’m just an average fan and I’m not privy to what’s going on behind the scenes. I get that guys are banged up and it is the coaches’ job to protect their guys at all costs. Mike Grey is not concerned that you paid ten bucks and didn't get to see a matchup between two star freshmen. Should he care? Maybe. Will he take heat from fans? Certainly. Will his job status be in jeopardy over it? Not a chance. It’s just the nature of the beast now and I don’t see the NCAA drastically changing the system so David Carr can get his win back. What is Jagger hoping to wake up Christmas morning to find under his tree? Dan Seifring I was going to say Japanese ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto in a Mets jersey, but before I could even spell-check his name the Dodgers (yes, those Dodgers) went and signed him along with every other player I coveted. That team is reaching Penn State levels of “This guy, too? Come on!” If only they knew how to win titles like Cael and the crew. Favorite Coquito flavor. Aaron Bartlett Coconut? Are there any other flavors? What are your thoughts on wrestlers counting byes as wins? Mike C. Is that really a thing? That can’t be true. You don’t even get your hand raised! I don’t even know what else to say except I’m going back to my high school hall of records and adding two more wins to my total. I realize we live in a world of fake overfiltered selfies, but I draw the line at fake wins. Get lost with that nonsense. On that note, I’m out of things to say. I wish you all a wonderful Friday as we head into the holiday weekend and then the end of the year. I started watching college wrestling seriously in 2017 and never imagined I’d be writing to you about coquito and pork rolls at the end of 2023. America truly is the land of opportunity.

  27. I don’t really follow the UFC but don’t they have some fights on ESPN+? That would seem like the most likely merger. Plus there is also some collaboration with ESPN+ and ACC/Big 12 so ESPN seems willing to partner. Flo used to have a deal with BTN but seems like BTN was the one that broke that off. Yeah I highly doubt Flo and Rokfin will be joining forces on anything. Sorry @Husker_Du Rokfin seems like the most likely to be the odd man out…it’s the most expensive subscription, including a recent 50% price increase despite less live college/international wrestling content than it had when it first started not to mention the live events it does have often requiring an additional cost (seems like they’ve been having more HS events but that’s probably a different audience). And the presence of all the weird non-wrestling content will likely also prevent collaboration with a sports-focused streaming company. Although if it’s true USAW is coming out with its own streaming service, Flo could be in trouble too as they seem to be getting less and less access to high profile events.

  29. My dad paid like $360 per semester for tuition at Penn State in the early 1970s. He literally paid for each school year (including housing) in its entirety, by working for the athletic department, at minimum wage, each summer. Also, as an Illinois graduate, that tweet pains me. 30. I have no idea what other words may or may not have been used. I am not on X/Twitter. But I'm sure that you're aware that people can say and do racist things even if they don't intend them to be racist, right? A person can say racist things and have no idea that those things are racist because their life experiences haven't shown them that they are indeed racist. It might mean that there isn't malicious intent, but those things are still racism. Some might view a situation like this as an opportunity to learn about the historical use of the words of phrases they write on their favorite social media platform and change the way they react to future events, others will brush it off as no big deal. Some will be inclined to give the benefit of the doubt to passive/subtle and not-so-subtle uses of racist language, others won't. It's up to each person to make these decisions for themselves. I personally try to treat people with the same respect and dignity that I'd like to treated with. I'm going to give grace to people and allow them to be human and make mistakes, but I can still identify when people are using racist language and condemn it regardless of their intent.

  31. Question for anyone that knows. Did KOT weigh in at 165 or 174? Asking because with the restrictions on weight cutting, if he weighed in at 174, when would be the next time he could go 165? Without checking dates, Mizzou has the Soldier Salute, Midlands and a first week of January dual.

  32. That’s a whole lot, but something we agree on. SS is not something I have factored in one iota in regards to retirement. It’s just something that’s not in my control and I gave up on bothering with it. Whatever my benefit when the time comes, money for toys and travel.

  33. Agreed 100%...thats why Im wondering if the 3 "outliers" (Flo, Rokfin, UFC) can find a way to come together....obviously FLo and Rokfin would take alot, but with the UFC entering the space....can there be a merger?
