  6. I’m not for absolving the protesters of all culpability. However, there are clearly layers to this, and to simplify it as being solely the fault of the protesters is disingenuous. Case in point, CHOP/CHAZ in Seattle. Yes, it was the insurrectionists fault, but the city was found culpable as well by the courts for letting it happen (the mayor told the police chief to stand down and let the rioters take control of the area) and was forced to pay millions to the residents/business owners of the district for failing to protect their constitutional right to property.

  7. If I was marginally more evil: STEP ONE: Buy a fake beard and farmer overalls so you can blend in. On December 23, drive to Iowa City. Wear the disguise when you pay cash to buy 6 burner phones from WalMart. I presume Iowa City has a WalMart. If not, go to Farm & Fleet or Casey's or Delbert's Five & Dime. STEP TWO: Set up fake gmail accounts for each of the 5 best Iowa wrestling starters with a recognizable variation of their Twitter or Instagram or TikTok usernames. STEP THREE: Set up 5 Draft Kings accounts using 5 different phones and 5 different usernames for the 5 wrestlers. Do this while parked outside the Iowa wrestling room, or standing next to the Gable statue at Carver. When done, put a dress on the Gable statue. I think that a dress like the one Dorothy wore in the Wizard of Oz would be cute. STEP FOUR: On December 26, place bets on the Iowa Hawkeye football team in the Poulan Weedeater Bowl game (or whatever trash bowl takes a 5-7 team). Again, this is accomplished outside the Iowa wrestling room facility or next to the Gable statue. When done, put lipstick on the Gable statue. Something sexy, but still innocent. STEP FIVE: Three days before the ILLINI/Iowa dual, use that 6th burner phone to alert the media, the Iowa compliance department and the Feds about these "illegal" bets. Do this next to an Iowa dorm, saying you're a "fellow student." Then, race over to the Gable statue and put a classy set of undergarments and a bra on it. Nothing too showy. It should say, "I like to have fun, but I do draw lines." STEP SIX: Profit!

  8. I gave one example of a more important political event in a single generation. Want to go back another? Reagan attempted assassination. Iran-Contra. Watergate. Vietnam. Cuban Missile Crisis. JFK & RFK assassinations. Plus about another dozen all more important than J6. Shit, boycotting the 1980 Olympics was a bigger deal than J6.

  11. You hate Trump...you're going to find everything that is in the indictment true and he'll be convicted. You like Trump you will find every reason to think he is innocent. My take...and always has been...can't stand Trump....but you have to be an idiot to think he hasn't been the most attacked president ever. Rationalize it away all you want...Trump is targeted. There is no way he should get convicted for "lying"!! Seriously...do you all not listen to politicians every freaking day lie??? George Bush lied! Bill Clinton lied!! Obama lied! And again...show me where Trump said "Strom the Capital and stop the democratic process!" NO ONE can show that evidence...EVER!! So stop with the stupid..."He lied!!" "He insinuated it!!" "Did you read the indictment??" Good grief!!! It's a freaking indictment....of course it's going to paint the worst possible picture it can. I'll leave this here...common sense is a lost art when it comes to politics. People will always rationalize and have the perspective that fits the narrative for their political side that they want to WIN!!

  12. Nearly identical speed which I would give a very slight edge to Focus, identical functional strength, identical gas tank (which when extrapolated to heavyweight is likely to be better for Hendrickson), identical defensive technique, and significantly better offensive technique in one move + chain wrestling + counter-offense-to-offense wrestling by Hendrickson. You can't back up against Hendrickson because he is as long as Focus so the edge game advantage goes out the window; he has a motor that has only been one REALLY stupid brain fart match from going 100mph all the time; he has better chops taking third in a tougher weight class than a freshman, albeit outstanding true freshman, won. And if you want to go to a FS comparison he would likely break Focus' ribs. And the crowd would roar. Alas none of this matters because either 1) Focus never wrestles again, or 2) even if he does return, he has been out of the game for too long at the highest level where he rightfully earned his place. To pivot - we all know GS would win, but I would like to see a motivated Steveson vs Hendrickson match and I think the results would open eyes for a few sequences.

  15. What about Obama lying about Ferguson to incite riots & violence, what about Hillary lying about Benghazi to save the admin, what about Biden's repeated lies about Hunter's "business" to save the election and cover up crime? A lie is when you know it is untrue. Obama knew it was a lie as did Hillary (admitted to her daughter) and obviously as did Biden. Now I'd like as much as any to see Trump go away but report is he had some advising he lost and some advising he won except for shenanigans. He chose to believe shenanigans. Even if it were 3 advising one way and 1 advising the other, you can't prove its a lie because he chose to believe the 25% instead of the 75%.

  18. WKN, you are missing the point of what Turley said. Turley said it was legal to lie. If Trump is convicted and it stands, then it is no longer legal to lie. It changes everything. That's Turley's point and what I am saying here. I am not for lying, I am for equal protection under the law. Wonderful. Again, how does this make any difference to what is being said. I don't have time to read legal documents in my spare time. I will go to trusted sources, whether you trust them or not, and try to make sense of the headlines. But what you are here saying is that because I haven't actually read the indictment but am depending on Turley, a noted Constitutional authority, helping me understand the legalese, that somehow my reporting of that is of no worth. So it changes my perspective when listening to you. I have not said Trump was right in what he did. I have not said Trump was wrong in what he did. All I have done is shown what is obvious to everyone, even you, that there is a legal standard for Trump and there is a legal standard for others. Heck, Trump was impeached for a phone call that nobody heard. If that is not a standard that does not apply to others, I don't know what is. FYI - I am no legal scholar, I have no background in law, I have never been to court except as a juror. So obviously that means I cannot lean on someone who does and look at their argument and agree or disagree with it. That is out of bounds. So yes, it changes my perspective when listening to you. mspart

  19. I'm old enough to remember when Turley was seen as the worst SOB in the land on AM radio and Tattletale News, due to his incessant questioning and criticism of George W. Bush's anti-terrorism efforts, among other things. Goes to show how money can turn your "principles" around pretty quickly.

  22. 1) Star 2) Brooks 3/4) Carr/O'Toole - I get O'Toole won the last and most important one but was still 1-2 v. Carr this year. I don't think O'Toole goes 3-0 against him next year so these probably flip flop on who won last. I would put Carr slightly higher since we has the winning record H2H but know that is a minority viewpoint.

  39. One last thing: Throw the Brick. At least once—when my wrestler has an insurmountable lead—I want to throw the brick and challenge the wisdom of awarding points for the outcome of a wrestling move. Shouldn’t the wrestlers and the audience be satisfied with the fact that the outcome happened, and that it was good? Should we award wrestlers with something as useless and vulgar as points? Why not cash or fabulous prizes? Why not beer? REF: "Blue threw a brick. Coach, your wrestler just scored?" HEAD TABLE: "What's the challenge?" COACH PINFALL: "I am challenging the entire system of point scoring in wrestling matches."

  40. STORY - CLERK OF DISTRICT COURT Defendant: PANIRO JOHNSON CASE NO.: 2023009066 Page 3 of 4 e) Wagering by individuals under 21 years of age In early 2023, an investigation initiated by agents with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) uncovered evidence of PANIRO JOHNSON conducting illicit wagering activities on the Draftings sportsbook platform. PANIRO JOHNSON was a wrestler at Iowa State University during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 wrestling seasons PANIRO JOHNSON engaged in a scheme with THESHA FREEMAN enabling JOHNSON to disguise his identity and manipulate online/mobile transactions in order to create the appearance that sports wager transactions conducted by JOHNSON were made by FREEMAN. This deception enabled PANIRO JOHNSON to conceal his unlawful gambling activities from law enforcement and other regulatory bodies. His actions contravened various legal and regulatory frameworks, including: A) Underage Gambling: PANIRO JOHNSON placed wagers while underage, in violation of Iowa's gambling laws. He employed a proxy account registered in the name of an individual who was over the legal age of 21. JOHNSON does not turn 21 until 2024. B) Violation of licensed Sportsbook User Terms and Conditions: PANIRO JOHNSON'S wagers on DraftKings also violated the platform's User's Terms, as well as rules and regulations administered by the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission. DraftKings explicitly prohibits individuals from signing up for an account while underage or utilizing the service under another's name. C) Breach of University and NCAA Policies: PANIRO JOHNSON'S use of an account associated with a non-athlete individual allowed him to circumvent scrutiny and sidestep university and NCAA policies regarding student-athlete sports wagering conduct. By using the identity of another, JOHNSON was able to avoid detection and the potential consequences of participation in prohibited activity. D) Unfair Wagering and Conflict of Interest: PANIRO JOHNSON placed bets on Iowa State University athletic events, including games and events sponsored by the NCAA and university. This raised concerns regarding unfair wagering advantages, potential access to insider knowledge of athletic participants, and the potential for collusion- related activities. Tax Implications: PANIRO JOHNSON'S fraudulent activities also shielded him from potential state and federal tax implications. By concealing his identity during his sports wagering transactions, any tax responsibilities would fall on the stand-in's name listed on the account. When placing wagers on the DraftKings platform, an individually unique "Bet Ticket ID" digital record is generated. This number is utilized by Draftings to distinguish one wager from all others. Each wager placed by JOHNSON generated a "Bet Ticket ID" digital record. Each "Bet Ticket ID" digital record identified below correspond to a specific timestamped wager placed by JOHNSON. The "Bet Ticket ID's" listed are not all inclusive of JOHNSON's sports wagering activity; however, they all meet the following conditions: Wagers routinely and consistently placed from PANIRO JOHNSON's personal iPhone. Wagering transactions that required possession of PANIRO JOHNSON'S protected iPhone to unlock and access his Draitkings account using a specific username and password. 3) Corresponded to PANIRO JOHNSON'S known locations, including his university residence and areas

  42. Great story, WKN! It reminds me of the greatest quote in human history. By 1979, Jimmy Connors was a legend in human Tennis, having appeared in 11 Grand Slam finals. He won 5 of them. Connors was at the peak of his sport—ranked #1 for 5 years in a row—when he faced Vitas Gerulaitis in that year's Master's Cup. Connors had beaten Gerulaitis 16 times in a row, but on that day, that beautiful day, Gerulaitis won. At the press conference the garrulous Gerulaitis said, "And let that be a lesson to you all. Nobody beats Vitas Gerulaitis 17 times in a row."

  43. I see the lineup looking like this and it includes 2 true freshman! 125 - Kilkeary/McCrone - expect McCrone to get the start and then maybe in late January switch to Kilkeary after his 5 matches are up 133 - Bouzakis - Should be in the top 4 and maybe higher, especially if Vito takes an olympic redshirt 141 - Mendez/Decatur - I think Mendez just wants to compete; someone mentioned Decatur is in the portal and could still move on. 149 - D'Emilio/Herman - DD has been cutting hard, last season to compete, eat and enjoy. 157 - Sasso/Wilcox - Sammy has looked good up at 70 KG for freestyle, this is probably a sign that he has moved on from 149. 165 - Hepner/Paddy/Wilcox - Most interesting lineup battle for sure. Would like one of these guys to distance himself, but honestly wouldn't even know who to bet on? 174 - Kharchla/Welsh- Although he blew big leads in the U23s, I don't see that happening in folkstyle. Length could be an issue at 174 but gas tank hopefully won't be. 184 - Rogotzke/Shumate - 2x super 32 champ doesn't happen by accident, I think Ryder is the real deal and goes right away. 197 - Hoffman/Geog - I heard on a podcast that Hoffman had a hamstring issue at the back end of last year, looking forward to a healthy Hoffman. Since no redshirt available, could see these guys splitting duty and maybe a late season wrestle off? 285 - Feldman - Excited for him to get his chance! Curious for those that are close to the program, does Tom ever look at late season lineup changes that aren't injury related? I could see Kilkeary and Rogotzke coming on a little later in the season and maybe worth putting them in the lineup late December/January. Any precedent for that besides Myles Martin which worked out quite well! Also wonder with the battles at 165, do they wrestle by committee until someone outperforms?
