it' Zane over Gilman and it's not close. Zane was never really close to making a team before and he dethroned a perennial medalist. Nick Lee had already beat Yianni. Chance had already beat JB.6 points

Sounds like it is speculation from the Iowa board about who may be in trouble with the gambling scandal. As told to me earlier, I don't believe this is verified - so just speculation at this point2 points

Very bittersweet for this UNC fan. Beyond happy for O’Conner to get to go back closer to home and get paid to coach. A little disappointed he’s leaving UNC. I guess Illinois is my second favorite team now lol. Editing for clarity: originally he was planning to stay at UNC to coach next year, but I’m pretty sure it would’ve been a volunteer/grad assistant gig. Don’t blame him at all for going home and getting paid.2 points

After working with wrestlers on a top-notch celebration in one of the three main categories (Religious, Dance, Tumbling), I let him or her know that IT IS NEVER TOO EARLY TO START YOUR CELEBRATION. Why wait? If you’re up by 2 with a minute to go, do a backflip at the re-start. If time is ticking off and you have a one-point lead on bottom or on top, shake your fist in triumph. This serves two purposes: (1) You have cemented in your mind that you will win, and (2) You have destroyed your opponent’s confidence. You'll find all of these tips and more in my book: Wrestling Celebrations and Thirty Other Ways to Piss Off Old People. Buy it on Amazon today!2 points

I've heard it said that sports are 90% mental and 10% physical. That is wrong and stupid. If that were the case, Stephen Hawking would have teched Jordan Burroughs at the 2012 Olympics instead of spending the afternoon in his London flat working out fiendishly difficult equations. The famous soccer player Mia Hamm said that the most important attribute a player must have is "mental toughness." Of course, soccer players with mental toughness also writhe around on the ground after another player touches them. They're running a 10k with a ball! Soccer players should not speak unless spoken to, in my opinion. But what about physical capabilities? It has been said that in sports, there are four physical traits an athlete must use: Strength, speed, conditioning, and positioning. Yet, the race doesn't always go to the swiftest, and the fight doesn't always go to the strongest. No. There must be something else. I've spent twelve years researching the relationship between athletic celebrations and success in sports. It is nearly a 100% correlation. I'm ready to call it causation. Whenever there is an athlete or athletes celebrating, a victory has been won. Examples: I think coaches have got it all backwards. First, teach your athlete a capital celebration, like Kamal Bey's Back Flip Superman or Zane Richards' Lezginka dance, and then they cannot fail. Statistics show this to be true. After that, maybe work with them on their pummeling or high crotch a little. With a superior celebration in their back pocket, your athlete will train harder. Because you only get to celebrate if you win. ___________________ This post first appeared at The ILLINI Wrestling Blog and Forum and Beyond.1 point

Its already going on now. Mat A has 60kg Greco and after that is the second round of 50kg(Susaki will have her first match), then 57kg.1 point

I think they’re a pretty solid 3rd after adding Caliendo and Franek, but I’d still take Michigan over them for 2nd. If they add AJ they probably pass Michigan. And still likely only win a match or 2 against PSU…1 point

Clicked on it and instantly recieved a $500 venmo from a bank account in LA. I'm not complaining just wondering why.1 point

This looks right to me except maybe Siebricht will cut to 149 if he feels he can get that spot.1 point

I added Bloodround to the network feed a few weeks ago as the two are friends of mine. Show is labeled explicit. It’s the only show on my network that is. Even has a disclaimer in the show notes. I rarely curse on my shows.1 point

The only name I saw mentioned on HR, still speculation of course, was Assad. So that could make Brands moving up make more sense1 point

I'd have to assume Siebrecht cuts back down to 149 now to try to battle for that spot too?1 point

I’d put Nagao at #2, as he has the higher likely point production, compared to Caliendo. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I think its official now that Caliendo is the second most valuable transfer of the offseason so far. Mesenbrink is top because he has all four years left. Will be fun to see these guys lock horns1 point

For next year 125 - Ayala (Guessing we see Cruz to start the season) 133 - Teske/Schriever 141 - Woods (Block redshirt) 149 - Voinovich/Rathjen 157 - Franek/Siebrecht (Ferrari Redshirt) 165 - Kennedy/Caliendo 174 - Brands/Caliendo (Arnold redshirt) 184- Assad/Brands 197 - Franklin/Assad (Possibly AJ Ferrari) 285 - Cassioppi One guy will be sitting between Kennedy/Caliendo/Brands .. unless Brands bumps up. Then either Assad/Franklin will be sitting. The 65/74 situation will be similarly stacked for 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 as well with Arnold entering the mix. Good problem to have IMO.1 point

here's the text nhs67 Northern Oklahoma College Votes to Reinstate Wrestling by Seth Duckworth2 days ago2.3kViews Huge news out of Tonkawa today as the NOC Board of Regents has voted unanimously to reinstate their wrestling program and add a women’s team. Today at 2:00 the Board of Regents for Northern Oklahoma College met in the NOC President’s Conference Room at Tonkawa with the return of wrestling as an agenda item. Alongside a presentation from the athletic director supported by NOC alum Todd Glasgow. This will be the third junior college program in Oklahoma along with NEO and Carl Albert State. It will also be the third women’s college program along with Carl Albert State and OCU. Some logistics are still to be worked out regarding facilities, coaching staff, and other items, but general specifics are in place for an eventual wrestling room and locker room.. The school will start competition in the 2024-2025 school year.1 point

Maybe so--but at what price I am not so sure? Yes, when you have wrestler who is clearly better--you can see more TFs. My concern is the good matches--the evenly matched guys. The matches we really want to see. I have a feeling in those marquee close matches we all love--when a guy gets a 1st period takedown he is gonna go into a shell and try to win 3-2. I fear we will see a whole lotta neutral stalling in big matches. I liked the fact with 2 pt takedowns, the guy with a lead can't as easily go into the deep freezer--unfortunately I am not sure the new 3 pt TD rule is gonna encourage more action in tight matches at all.1 point

I like soccer, but Mia Hamm was so mentally tough that she begged out of taking a PK in the World Cup final, after customarily being one of the five players who took a PK after extra time.1 point

I have also seen a nearly 100% correlation between seeing wrestlers eating food and successfully having made weight, especially bagels with cream cheese and gatorade. We should encourage wrestlers to eat bagels and gatorade more often, it will be easier for them to make weight accordingly.1 point

So let me get this straight: you are saying all Dayton Fix has to do to win NCAAs and make the Olympic team next year is drop down to 57kg, move the pre-match somersault jump to post match and do the hokoie pokie on his way off the mat for his off the chart post match interview?1 point
-
Another area in which wrestling coaches need to improve on is the post-match interview. Again, there is almost a 100% correlation between post-match interviews and a big win on the mat. Now, this isn't true of all sports. In basketball, for example, they interview the losers as well as the winners because they think people want to hear what losers have to say, even if it is a loser talking about losing and whatever else the losing loser wants to talk about. "The ball kept not going in the hole." My friends, I guarantee you that Sammy Brooks wrestled 10% harder in his Big Ten Championship match against TJ Dudley because he knew that if he didn't win, the post-match interview he stuck in his back pocket would never see the light of day.1 point

USAFA has the prep school, located on the south side of the USAFA campus. One of my employees used to be the superintendent there. Don’t know what kind of obligation kids have when they go there or if they owe years if they decide to leave. But, effectively a RS, all the same. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

All of the military academies have prep schools they often send incoming freshman to for a year. For the Naval academy it is NAPS located in Newport RI. I think they send a lot of incoming kids there to see if the military life is a good fit for them - it seems a lot of athletes go that route. Once you start at the academy you are right it is usually 4 and done. On the good note for the recruits I believe the clock starts for their service as soon as the enter the prep school.1 point

What are you referring to? Are you referring to the controversial 4 for Chance? Was there even consensus that was the right call?1 point

Why do you think there will be a "game" if there is no exceptions? Step out first, other guy gets a point. I know people are afraid "it will turn to sumo" but that doesn't seem to be the case except if your name is Thomas Gilman.1 point
