Good for TMS. She has enough size and boatloads of personality for pro wrestling. But, as we've seen with Gable, the transition from "real" sports to pro wrestling is not so easy or obvious. Best of luck to TMS. She is a credit to our sport and country.3 points

We call that person a Lincoln Park Trixie For real though, it’s a great spot if you are the type that enjoys large city living. Clean, safe, plenty of shopping, plenty of food, and less than a mile to Diversey Harbor where I run along Lake Michigan every morning. Also has a bar for every B1G school if you’re young and can still hang.3 points

I lurk on his Facebook page. I have been blocked by him on Twitter for a while. To see his posts I have to logout. Shit I was banned on Twitter for calling Clinton either Hitlery or Killery back in 2016. When I got called a rich racist white man I kindly responded with a picture of my beautiful mug with the hashtag #THUGLIFE. I only recently was unbanned after Musk took control. It took me 23 minutes to get blocked by that Masterdeleter.3 points

I'm waiting for an interviewer to start an interview with Aaron Brooks with "Apart from God, how'd you manage to [insert key match move]?" There's got to be SOME way to get him out of that spiel. But at least he didn't diss Islam again. But yeah, Gilman is the clear overall winner here, while single-interview honors go to Sammy Brooks and his sublime mullet.3 points

My personal favorite is the deer analogy after he beat Joey Dance in the quarters 2015. (that part starts at 1:27)3 points

Given its the off season check out Greg Warren on DRYBAR. He has several other good stand ups on YouTube. If you don't know who he is I'd suggest wait till you've watched half the routine before you google search him, its just better that way. Also, just wait on the Red Alert!2 points

Bumping up to then have to face Yazdani is hardly avoiding competition. Given his accomplishments since then I seriously doubt any domestic losses are gnawing at him.2 points

I'm all for Spencer being on the French team. That would be good for him and the sport, oui.2 points

He's from Oak Park, which is absolutely not anywhere near the boonies. Unless the definition of boonies means an affluent community containing 25 Frank Lloyd Wright houses.2 points

Is there a place we can hold it where Cael and Penn St will be unable to find?2 points

Southeast. Charlotte would be nice. There are 7 D1 wrestling programs in NC and another 3 (I think) in SC. Good weather, nice uptown are, etc. Georgia would also be great. Maybe in the Atlanta area?2 points

Is there any wrestler who gives worse interviews after a match than Aaron Brooks? https://www.flowrestling.org/events/10272040-2023-us-open-wrestling-championships/videos?playing=10925482&limit=60 Every answer is a three letter word beginning with a G and ending with a D. Actually, sometimes it's a four letter answer: begins with L and ends with a D. (This is an easy Wordle game for the day) If Brooks arguably gives the worst interview after a match, who gives the best? Most insightful? Or humorous? Or provocative? Or candid? Hmm. Maybe there are worse interviewees (who are the candidates?); it's just that Brooks' remarks are boring and predictable ... except perhaps when he decides to engage in dogmatic theology about other religions. (I sometimes wish a wrestler would come off the mat and say something like "I don't thank God for this victory. I thank my parent's genes" Or maybe even the referee if they got bailed out ... or something of the sort. (Brooks is a great wrestler and I enjoy watching him. And his is probably a very good person off the mat. I just find his interview responses to be vapid. I wish he would speak more about wrestling itself.)1 point

Have you ever left UC after an event? Have you ever stayed at “downtown” Rosemont which is nowhere near Chicago proper? Both options suck and I’m a ten year Logan Square/Old Town/ Lincoln Park resident that loves this city more than anything1 point

I am not a Spencer hater. Everyone knows Spencer is not 100% healthy when 100% healthy is compared with a Spencer pre-shoulder and multiple knee injuries. Nobody really knows whether Spencer is 100% healthy compared to what the best version of any future Spencer may ultimately become. The Iowa Hawkeyes seem to have a culture/tradition of figuring a way to compete through not being 100%. Terry Brands did as mentored by Dan Gable, who successfully did before him. Cory Clark did successfully as mentored by Terry Brands. Kemerer and Eierman were less successful. Spencer, himself, has had mixed success. I would say Spencer dropping out of the NCAA wrestlebacks and the US Open pre-semifinals are simply part of him and his coaches exploring how best to wrestle given his current (and perhaps likely future) state of health. It's part of his plan to figure a way to compete in hopes of achieving his ultimate goal--Olympic Gold. This does not seem to be an excuse, but rather reality. If it were simply explained by Spencer this way, I think he could be better off. Alternatively, when an interview is given he could simply state, "I believe most people appreciate my present situation, and I won't be publicly speaking about my health for the foreseeable future." I think more 'haters' object to: 1) the general talk about not being 100% healthy without specifics about how this led to his US Open withdrawal; and 2) having his father present a similar general message, over the fact that he dropped out of both tournaments.1 point

The other thing that is so impressive about what Taylor has accomplished is that he only started his run of World titles when he was 27. Usually if a guy is on the senior level 4-5 years, you don’t see them jump such levels when they are that old. I’m no PSU or Taylor fanboy, but I don’t think it can be overstated what he’s accomplished at the senior level.1 point

I don't know if it takes anything away when comparing world championships from the past. There is a long history of ten weight classes. Comparing Olympics on the other hand...... I really think overall you have to give a little more weight to the golds and medals in the post soviet era, before even talking about weight classes. There's just so many damn Russians in the bracket. Then you drop down to six weights, making the bracket even more Russian heavy. Then you add in the new wave of free agency, where, not only do you have the Russian, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus in the bracket......but the athletes from France and Arab Emirates are imported Russians. It's particularly tough in international wrestling to make good comparisons between eras. The mount rushmore in my opinion should be categorize your four eras, and who's the goat from each.1 point

From a FS perspective, I can't put Dake above Taylor. That Oly Gold trumps that Bronze. Even if Dake has one more World Gold.1 point
-
This is where my mindset was, honestly. At one point, the World thought that Yaz and Sadulaev were the two beat walking the planet. Taylor is definitely above one of those. No one is above Sadulaev, IMO. Is Taylor going to hang around through 2028? He keeps winning Golds and Silvers, he has a big consideration.1 point

You have to admit, we are doing much better now than years ago in the worst drought we've had in the 2000s. It was bleak. Since JB, we have had at least one medalist since 2013 until now. And we have monsters on the team that are winning gold consistently. A great time to be a US Wrestling fan. mspart1 point

Mid-sized convention cities should be the primary discussion. Close to an airport, abundance of hotels within 15 minutes walking distance to the venue, nightlife, etc. I have travelled extensively throughout my career and here are some off the top of my head that would be great sites that can either check every box, or make up for a missing box by over-excelling in other areas. Kansas City, MO, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Nashville, Boston, Philadelphia, Columbus, Phoenix, St. Louis, Detroit, DFW, (Arlington/Jerry-world would be too big but Dallas proper could do this). Atlanta and Nashville could really awaken Georgia and Tennessee wrestling over the long-term via youth-friendly exposure. Of course there is the big boy that offers something for everyone, except the long flights and costs that could add up real quick: Vegas baby! Chicago is spread too far apart in the distance delta of airport-venue-hotels-nightlife (you either do McCormick with only one train and absolutely not built for a mass exit, or you do the burbs which is an even worse choice). NYC is fun but too expensive for families and can quickly become a logistics nightmare for the uninitiated. Providence is too small at 14k capacity but would otherwise be a good choice for NCAAs.1 point

NCAA tournament time is Spring Break season. It needs to avoid the warmer climates such as Phoenix because it will be really expensive. Charlotte is a reasonable location as would be Raleigh, and even Atlanta could be OK as that isn't a Spring Break destination.1 point

Kansas City should be a great spot. Nashville would be an excellent choice as well in my opinion.1 point

Since 1990 the true Freshman that have won NCAA titles are Pat Smith (mid weight), Teyon Ware (low/mid), Dustin Schlatter (mid weight, Kyle Dake (lower/mid), J'Den Cox (upper weight) and Myles Martin (mid/upper weight), Spencer Lee (lower weight), Mark Hall (mid), Yianni (mid), AJ Ferrari (upper). I may have missed someone but as you can see the true freshman national champions are pretty evenly dispersed from lower to upper weights.1 point
-
Those freshman heavyweight and 190/197 champs are playing football. You were given numbers, you just chose not to take them. You say the limited number of four time champs is too small a sample size; I asserted the sample size is every athlete who ever wrestled division 1 in college since the early 70s. You worry about "feelings," but hint that the only reason Lee wins is "hand and arm strength."1 point
-
How do you explain all the dominant 2-3-4 x national champions from the middle and upper weights then? The reality is that truly dominant wrestles come in all shapes and sizes and the original premise (it is easier to be a dominant lightweight) that you proposed is just not true.1 point
-
Yes, this is evident by all the 4 time champions coming from the lower weights. Oh wait…1 point
