And how many times did Taylor lose to the NY guy from my school.3 points

He may very well be the best wrestler that I've seen period, regardless of school and medals.2 points

Most people would say that the best Oregon State wrestlers of all-time is Les Gutches (2x NCAA champ, 1996 Hodge winner, World Champion), however it is probably Robin Reed, whose career has a lot of myth and legend attached to it. Reed went undefeated from 1921-1924 and won 3 national championships. He pinned his way though the 1924 Olympics to win the gold medal. He actually won the Pacific Northwest Olympic Trials in 4 different weights. It was said he could pin every wrestler on the olympic team including the heavyweight. Below is a link to his story. https://nwhof.org/hall_of_fame/bio/29 http://oregonsportshall.org/timeline/robin-reed-wrestling/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robin_Reed2 points

I agree. And I think we see Millner win this weight class.2 points

Hard to grow into other weights from the higher weights and hard to be a freshman up there also.2 points

The unfortunate thing is that I like watching Hidlay wrestle. Brooks is the only person he does that with, and I’m guessing there’s a very good reason why, but I’d like to watch him actually wrestle Brooks. From the center. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk2 points

Because if you select Michigan State your screen will turn into a permanent blank orange screen saver. Come on man be careful and make the right decision.2 points

I've done a preview of the ILLINI/Pitt portion of the triangular here. Andre at wrestlestat.com predicts a 15-15 tie, so it should be a good one. The marque matchups will be Lucas Byrd wrestling Micky Phillippi for the third time, while Zac Braunagel gets his first crack at Nino Bonaccorsi. This dual could come down to heavyweight. For those Pitt and Chattanooga fans wondering how to watch the match, it will be on BTN+, which is a subscription service. Here is some good advice for you: If you are willing to pay $9.95 to watch it, you can go to the website and select a "school pass" for ILLINOIS that is only that amount for one month. If you select a "sport pass" and select "wrestling," it is $69.95 for a year. You get a full year of B1G wrestling, but that's a lot of money. The steps: 1. Go to the website here. 2. You will have a choice between conference pass, school pass and sport pass. Pick "school pass." 3. Underneath that, you will see the logos for various B1G schools. Choose the big Orange "I" for the ILLINI. The first on the left. 4. Beneath that, select the "monthly pass" for $9.95 and follow the payment instructions. The good news is that I do this every year, and you can terminate the agreement online without having to talk to somebody in sales. Since this is only a monthly pass, you shouldn't even have to do that. I don't think they'll pro-rate your school pass, as the Big Ten Network sucks *****, so be ready to fork over the entire $9.95. I am not associated with the University of ILLINOIS or the BTN.1 point

Ah, that makes me think. Did the OP mean our high school, or the college team that we root for? I did go to graduate school at UNI, so I'd be covered with college.1 point

It would easy to say Bill Koll (UNI), but competition wasn't the same 70 years ago than it has been in the past 20 years, so it's an impossible thing to say.1 point

I enjoy the Big Ten Plus for the most part although as much as it pains me to side with an industry heavyweight, I think ESPN is probably easiest to use out of all of them. I have a Samsung TV it doesn't have a channel for BTN+. So I have to load it on my phone and then cast it to my TV. Not a big deal in theory, but if I get a text or a call it also comes up on the TV and gets in the way of thr stream. It's easiest to watch on my PC1 point

I just got the monthly pass for ILLINOIS for $5.38 using the coupon code "MONDAY." Apparently, it expires today. Note that I had to type in the code and hit "Apply" twice. It didn't work the first time. So, if you are a Moc or Panther fan, you can try that. You'll have to set up an account, but that's simple. Just in case, cancel after you've watched all the replays you can stomach. I thought about the year-long single-sport pass, but I couldn't find a code, and really, my dudes, I don't want to watch PSU, Iowa or an Ohio State team. I hate those guys. Cheers!1 point

Yeah because it's a swing of likely bonus points from one direction to the other. Maybe Brands will request to start at 133 so he doesn't have to decide right away and so he can try to get the worse version of Redding and Siwderski off the scale. Obviously ISU would want to avoid that scenario.1 point

Lots of competitive weights which will make for an extremely exciting dual. ISU’s chances hinge greatly on Spencer Lee. If Lee wrestles, ISU’s chances are extremely slim. If he’s out this dual is a toss up.1 point

Japan is sending their F-G team like I was predicting. The Emperor's Cup is way too important to potentially miss. Especially for any of the wrestlers who graduated college already since this is their job. Their best wrestler on that World Cup squad is Moe Kiyooka. She's going to go 53kg in Dec at the Emperor's Cup like she did earlier this year, but as I said before....Shidochi put a beating on her in the finals. She knows there's no way she's beating Shidochi, Fujinami, Okuno or even Irie and that's probably why she's competing at the World Cup. And I know you're going to ask, but Fujinami has been back to full speed and was training at National Team camp a few weeks ago. 53kg at the Emperor's Cup is going to be insane.1 point

We shall find out this Sunday and I'm going to be anxious the whole dual, it'll be a fun time!1 point

Oh, I wouldn't be shocked if Swiderski wins. He's a big time talent. I just don't think it's a tossup as of now. A semantics debate.1 point

A tip: when copy/pasting a table from Excel or Word, it is best to paste into an empty Word doc using Paste Special>Picture(U) and then copy the picture from Word into this website.1 point

Dake’s senior year (2013), 165 had 4 titles with 2 more to come, split between Dake and Taylor. It also had a former finalist (Caldwell) who would make the finals again the next season. I would say that winning 165 that year was much harder than this year. Also, the top of the field was harder even if there were just two former champs that year as opposed to three this year.1 point

Lee has stated numerous times that his ultimate goal is an Olympic gold medal. I look forward to watching him compete for many years to come. For the purposes of this discussion, Id rather Lee skip this year entirely if that meant being able to compete internationally. Obviously, I'd rather see both...1 point
-
Back to the original discussion question, I believe him redshirting this year may hinder his ability for the olympic team. I know the saying "wrestling is wrestling" but I think that the grind of a full NCAA season would have an impact in his ability to transition for the olympic team. I would assume that Spencer will wrestle in most Big10 duals and be ready in the second semester.1 point

Not sure if this follows but in 1959 Lehigh's Ed Hamer (4th seed) beat Duane Murty Ok State (champ 1958 and top seed) and Tom Alberts Pitt (champ 1957 and 3rd seed)1 point

I think him being ranked #4 is a joke, personally. He should for sure be higher than Henson, but I would also argue he should be higher seed than Sasso. Sasso has lost to two true freshman this year. Are we going on history, or current? Parco will beat Henson too....IF Yianni does not go, I am calling Parco vs Millner final. Millner wins it. 1) Millner, 2) Parco, 3) Sasso 4) Henson1 point

We will be heading there. I am hoping to see Surtin on the mats - I heard he knee was really bothering him. And I would like to see if there are any change ups at 184.1 point

Such a shame his career has been riddled with so many major injuries. I thought for sure he would be a multi time world and Olympic champion. Now I hope for him he just gets to experience going. So many people talented people in all sports don’t get to pursue their dreams because injuries, hope he doesn’t get added to that list. Imagine if his body wouldn’t have betrayed him.1 point
-
It seems to me if he returns too soon from his surgery he is risking the chance at being an Olympian in 2024 in order to get NCAA title #4. Assuming he is not stupid doesn’t that answer the question? Isn’t he putting his priority on a 4th NCAA title in 2023 over a chance at an Olympic medal in 2024?1 point
-
I think he is doing well? I wasn't the ine who anointed him the next Nolf. Do I think he could be that special? Yes. Do we need to see more from him before I would anoint him that? Absolutely. Do I also think that he would contend for AA this year? Absolutely.1 point

Which was a refereeing travesty. If you back up out of bounds as a means of preventing a takedown, right from the whistle, that’s stalling. Over and over again. I respect the hell out of Keckeisen, though. He comes to wrestle. He goes, all seven minutes. Not Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

It'll be competitive, but not for Keckeisen. He's already put multiple spanks on Hidlay, and Romero will get so overwhelmed that he may just roll right over and quit. It'll be a cakewalk for him.1 point

As a die hard Simpsons fan this is a solid reference. But, to pivot back to wrestling i always felt that if you could get two upper-classman to choreograph a match (wwe style) with several slick moves and tour that around the elementary schools you’d double the youth program sign ups.1 point
