Carr and O’Toole will likely match up 2 times before NCAAs. I think if any of the 65s can run the table they’ll be in the mix for Hodge as all 3 will be 2x champs. If O’Toole is able to beat Carr multiple times and then win NCAAs with Carr and Griffith, I’m giving it to him. He will have a lot of pins and a very strong schedule.2 points

Well at the end of the day it’s the old eye test. I think his defense is better than all of the guys you listed. I also think he’s better on top than all but Lee. He doesn’t have a deficiency on bottom and his takedowns are underrated. The kid has one loss in his career and it occurred as a true freshman bumped up a weight. He also teched 11-0 in the finals of the junior worlds. Now I know it’s not senior worlds but it’s also nothing to sneeze at. I think he’s a better overall folkstyler than anyone on your list. Freestyle is harder to argue at this point but if I’m a coach doing a draft, give me O’Toole.2 points

I would take Lee, Brooks, RBY and Starocci over O'Toole pound for pound right now... Maybe Yianni depending on how the season shapes up. There is a long way to go - looking forward to some of those 165 matchups.2 points

Based on this week's individual wrestler rankings. As a reminder: I equate rank with seed Expected points is based on the average placement and advancement points by seed from 2010 - 2022 Max Points is based on the maximum placement and advancement points if the rank equals the final placement Mean Points is like Max except it accounts for the fact that there are multiple paths for wrestlers to finish third through twenty-fourth, and therefore multiple possible advancement point outcomes. I added these last two columns because of the difference between where anOSU and Mizzou would finish in the Intermat rankings based on different ways to count points.1 point

One thing that stuck out to me with Hoffman was he looks more the part of a 197lber this year, as far as his build goes. I remember thinking he looked tiny in his match with Beard a couple years ago. He looks kike a full sized 197lber now.1 point

The entire company was a bunch of wokesters that throttled down Red stuff and throttled down blue stuff, and kicked off whoever they wanted. but, but, but dISinforMatIOn1 point

Original post said folkstyle only. All wrestlers listed are in college. I felt it necessary to correct Cinnaguy.1 point

I think the gap between 1st and 6th is bigger than 5th and R12. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

O'Toole DOMINATED. Elam looked really, really good. 141 is wide open this year, Woods might be the favorite??1 point

Tons of cool stuff to do down by the BOK. Lots of places to have a beer, and good places to eat. I am not sure on the dates, I believe it is the Wednesday before NCAA's, they will be having some high school all star matches. They will be held across the street from BOK at the Cox Center. Again, not sure on the date or who will be wrestling in it, but this is what I was told. When I get more details, I will post them.1 point

Carter only sat on the ankle for a short time. Carter looked busy for most of the third period against an active bottom man who was difficult to turn. It reminded me of a 'stalling on top, it's a problem' discussion as an example where it was not a problem. Highlights from Pat Milkovich for the 'stalling on top its a problem' discussion from March 2021 below and and1 point

I just learned of the Glutton Game. Everyone weighs in at the beginning of the day, and the heaviest at the end of the day win Gold, Silver, and Bronze.1 point

You’re giving an A to anyone who gets a riding time point and your criteria is “elite wrestlers only?” I would be concerned of anyone who does *not* get an A based on your grading rubric. Anyone who is a top 3 or better SHOULD be getting all As like a smart kid in a crappy public high school based on your rule set.1 point

I dare you to start on bottom against Dean. I’m wincing from my couch every time I see him put the bow and arrow on someone. People make fun of Warner screaming last year..I’d be doing the same damned thing!1 point

There should certainly be a category for defense as well. When you add that to the list, O’toole is the best wrestler in the country.1 point

Well that seems like an obvious point now that I read it.1 point

It would seem that Gable was a master of getting the very best of his wrestlers. He could see what needed tweeking. I think Cael and Casey have that same ability and take great recruits and make them unstoppable. Cael's brother Cody also seems to be very good. mspart1 point

It's like the Heisman. Rby is a senior. On his way out. Its his to lose & he'll put up a lot of bonus points plus if he wins it he'll have a nice exclamation with doing it against either Fix or Arujua. Both Starrocci and Brooks are going for their 3rd. O'Toole is only a sophmore. Spencer could only wrestle a few matches the entire year, med forfeit out of Bigs, then wipe out the field during NCAA's and they'll give him the Hodge because it's his 4th.1 point

If you're comparing P4P then not everyone can be an A. I would think a ranking system would look better for what you are asking. Also, if Lee is a C on bottom then your criteria should put Kerk at an F- on top and bottom. Doesn't matter if he got the takedown or was taken down, he is always fully extended and stares at the ref with a befuddled look wondering why they are still in par terre instead of going back to feet. It's always a funny awkward face that makes me giggle when the lightbulb goes off that he's not in a freestyle match.1 point

Those matches were 4 years ago.... I'm guessing now that Spencer has knees he might be a little better. I was probably a C- but I was a master at hiding it.1 point

Idk how you can give all these folks a grade of A for top wrestling when hardly any of them score any points from that position.1 point

My takeaways: O'Toole is the best wrestler in the NCAA this year. That includes Spencer, Yianni et al. He's the man. Completely dominated every second of his match with a game Hamiti. He is terrific in every position and his defense is even better. I said after his loss his freshman year that he would never lose again. Now I'd be a lot of money on it. Brooks looked bigger, stronger and just completely superior to Keckiesan. He's at a different level. I don't see Mekhi ever beating Carter. Carter stalked him the entire match and I don't think Mekhi even got a shot off let alone scoring on one. Carter is better on bottom and much better on top. Rode Mekhi easily. Elam has leg attacks, Warner doesn't. Credit to Warner for funking out of a shot and taking it to OT but Elam is the better wrestler imo. Cass just kept walking right into Kerk's low level attacks and had no answer in terms of a counter. Kerk started to gas but not enough to make a difference. Gomez's knee pull shot is one of the best in the game. Once he knew he needed to score he just turned up the heat and got to his offense. How can you not like this kid's style of wrestling? Alirez just kept attacking. He's the man right now at 141 which seems like a weak weight overall.1 point

Besides the PSU guys looking dominant..Elam showed me something..he can be a nightmare matchup for anyone (hopefully on opposite side of Max). O'Toole the varsity version of Hamiti. McKee was a mismatch on paper and it showed. Carr/Monday, worst match..neither guy attempted a real shot. Matthews did nothing, glad Alairez got the win. Gomez/Sasso fun match..Sasso just gassed in 3rd I guess.1 point

"Full ride" at Cornell or any other Ivy means he gets lots of need based financial aid. Ivy's do not provide athletic scholarships. Always got a kick hearing people talk about themselves or friends that got "full rides" to any of the Ivy's. Thoroughly enjoyed ratting them out!1 point
