I dont often want to learn about currency & covid But when I do I go to a wrestling forum Stay liquid my friends.3 points

A more complete statement is that no currency has intrinsic value. A currency is a collective fiction, but it works to the extent that it is a useful fiction. A dollar bill is worth a certain amount of a good or service because we all agree it is worth that. Our agreement is based on trust in a central body and its institutions. When the trust breaks down, the currency breaks down. See Venezuela, or any country that is losing a war. The point of a crypto currency is that it does not rely on the trusted central body. It is still a collective fiction, but it does not require trust to work. And the idea that a government could shut it down is not completely accurate. It is difficult to shut down crypto locally, but nearly impossible to do so globally. And there is certainly an argument for them if you are in any jurisdiction that is subject to US sanctions. US sanctions are so effective because the dollar is the world's reserve currency. Losing access to the US banking and money transfer system can be devastating as a result. Unless there is an alternative.3 points

Perhaps Hammerlock has created yet another alias. @Husker_Du- can you see emails or IPs? Or is that all @BobDole?2 points

Sorry if I failed to memorize (or read). I had never really heard of Rofkin before (I thought they made wrestling shoes) and was learning as I go and then summarizing to see if I got it. Maybe I was confusing Rokin with Rudis.2 points

So Rofkin is basically for content that is not worthy of YouTube and it gives the fringe operator the chance to charge for his content if anyone is willing to pay. Is that it?2 points

My opinion is that crypto currency is quite useful for parties who are willing to take significant risk in order to transfer money anonymously (aka criminals.) Another useful case would be those that want to take a percentage of that questionable money transacted in the form of fees in order to fill their own pockets (aka shady banker types.) The last group is the hype network who back it to get regular people in, so they can profit from valuation movement and/or fees that the regular people will be paying for (aka blood sucker brokers.) It is interesting. But only of actual real value to criminals, shady banker types, and blood sucker brokers. Everybody else loses. P.T. Barnum probably would have loved it. (This isn't to say that useful public non-centralized electronic currency isn't possible. It is. But what we have now isn't it and there are some enormous obstacles it would have to overcome to ever get there. The blockchain may even need to be reinvented by then if quantum computing matures and is able to hack it. It would likely look far different than it does now, but it is possible. So is nuclear fusion, which I find far more interesting.)2 points

You keep saying it’s the best medium for creators. But what’s the proof? Outside of wrestling there is nothing worthwhile on there. A bunch of fringe content like crypto (which is imploding as we speak) and conspiracy theories. Where are all the creators of content with large audiences?2 points

Paniro Johnson takes down Gomez. Caleb Hensen takes down Sasso. But those wins pale in comparison to what Van Ness is doing at 49.2 points

Sure. A small number of people will pay for the PPV for each tournament. I would argue this is a worse outcome and business model than having everybody pay a bit more and having all tournaments available to everyone.2 points

They took the first of two team points away from Lock Haven after this match. I was unclear as to whether the team point removed from NC State was related to the 125 match or related to Kai Orine's refusal to shake Gable Strickland's hand after the 133 match. It was nasty stuff I was watching (but shamefully enjoying)1 point

Lots of people made money during the Ponzi era. It's just that everyone else got completely screwed. All cryptocurrencies are fiat currencies that could be made worthless with the stroke of a pen. If you're sitting at a poker game and you don't know who the mark is... it's you.1 point

that may or may not be the case, Mike. however 1) rokfin is agnostic in this (it's the event organizer that decides it) and 2) it's much better for me (who doesn't use ppv but who has more daily viewers than most) it's a really great happy medium (and currently the best situation for the creators) the only down side is that some consumers a skittish b/c they can't wrap their brain around $10+$15=$25 vs. $25 of course, the choice is yours in deciding whether to watch or not.1 point
-
I would also be willing to pay more. If there was a 'tier' sort of setup I definitely would. Something like what is current with the $10 and the PPV option, but give me a $15/mo option to unlock all of it, and I am in as well.1 point
