The question is, what are the jobs he would entertain? Obviously he understands the need for a large financial backing so I feel that alone eliminates a lot of programs. Would he go for Nebraska if manning stepped down? Does Rutgers have the financial support he would be looking for? Rutgers is in a hotbed area for wrestling and he could funnel kids all the way up like he mentioned DT is with his club....

Im not sure how many others he would even consider... Don't think his mentality would be a fit for Iowa... Ohio st seems to have their future head coaching bench built.

Would be fun to ultimately have guys like Burroughs, DT, Dake, Spencer and even Yianni all as head coaches at the same time.

Nebraska is the place for him. Manning is getting older. Bring Burroughs on staff for a couple of years & then Manning can retire. Much like Kurdelmeier did with Dan Gable at Iowa.

He’d do damage at Drexel. Great local reputation, 5-year curriculum with an embedded practicum that’d be perfect for a redshirt year, solid financial aid for good tri-state students. One can dream!

I do think he’d start a dynasty at Rutgers. I just can’t see him leaving Wawa territory.

When I watched his interview I thought this was the first time I can remember him saying he wanted to be a coach. He started by saying he wanted to run his own RTC and then went on to say that he would run an RTC at a program where he was the HC. I just cannot remember for the life of me if he had said anything like this before, which I think he has not. With the Taylor hire, you wonder if more schools will be up to spend big money to get a guy like JB. It was interesting the way he framed it when he said he enjoys helping guys reach certain levels more than maybe competing himself. This should make it interesting post NCAA's.

Where would he be a fit? It also seemed like he wanted his own RTC or a HC position, from what I gathered.

The mentality to win matches on the biggest level at a level higher than any other American, time after time with determination, grit, conditioning and come from behind late match heroics wouldn’t fit?

Jordan wouldn’t take a HC job at a school like Drexel. Let’s be real.

I didn't mean that as a knock to Iowa, I just think they have a very specific archetype of who they are and what they want in a head coach. Gable being the last coach that didn't wrestle there and with Spencer in the wings I feel like he may already be targeted as a likely successor if he chooses to go that route.

JB just seems to be more of a forward thinker in terms of program building and wrestling curriculum which I don't really think of when I think of Iowa. Again, not saying Iowa hasn't and won't continue to have success the way they are doing it, just doesn't seem like JB or Iowa are each others style.... never say never tho!

You do realize as HC, he can have the mentality of the team be whatever he wants, right?

wonder what snyder thinks about JB heading to lincoln

He’s the coach in waiting, yeah? Would they bounce him out for JB, and if so, would JB do that to Snyder?

How could it be any place other than Nebraska? The pre-season #3 in country! Would schools fire their solid head coach to get him like Iowa state did for Cael? I see in the article Kent State has a head coach opening? Has that been filled? The only D1 head coaching spot still open. Would Burroughs like to build a program from the ground up?

Not a stepping stone program like Kent State. Burroughs name is so big in the sport that he could likely have a shot at just about any job in college wrestling. He won't have to prove himself as a coach by raising a smaller program to success before landing a job at a big time program. I do think Rutgers would be an interesting move given he'd be back home and in a hotbed of wrestling talent. A name like Burroughs attached to the program could potentially keep a lot of Jersey kids from leaving the state.

exactly my thoughts.

im sure snyder and JB have had discussions.

A few years back i got the inkling that snyder didn't want a head job...

but who knows. things change...

and manning wasn't on the retirement radar

Agree. I thought for a second maybe West Point! But the only reason I said Kent State is because it is the only D1 program out there left according to the article just posted. It wasn't posted so does that mean that one is already filled?

If Synder still just wants to be Assistant, NE is perfect for JB. Manning can step down and still be a figure head like JS is in Okie state, JB has a great relationship with Tervel and Snyder.

I don't think JB is taking any job without an Oklahoma State like setup in terms of a sponsor and donor.  Just having a current Rutgers or even Nebraska setup right now doesn't move the needle much for him in my opinion.  I'm guessing the DT situation has made him think stronger about it, but he's not jumping in without someone to (over) pay the bills.

All it takes is one AJ Ferrari incident and they immediately have an excuse to get a new HC.

Where would that be? Chapel Hill? They got money!

I will throw out the following as contenders for JB if they want new coaches: Nebraska, Iowa, Rutgers, tOSU, ISU, Michigan and then possibly teams like Oklahoma and Minnesota (that have a history of success and have shown somewhat of a willingness to spend money). I don't see Iowa or Michigan as current possibilities but I think JB would take them if they were open. I think that wherever he went you would see money come in from outside sources to support a guy like Burroughs (think Rob Koll and the Milwaukee tools guy).

I wonder if the further he is removed from his prime competing days if he loses a bit of recruiting appeal. David immediately went in and even took bronze at worlds after, and all these kids grew up watching him in his prime. I wonder if despite being the goat if the kids in 5-10 years will not quite be as tantalized by JB.
