  1. 2012- Kyle Dake winning his 4th title at 4 different weight classes.
  2. Lots of thoughts about Greco here. Again, big props to all the athletes and coaches that are still doing the thing and striving for greatness. It just seems as though they are not really supported by USA Wrestling in a way that would promote greatness. In the past they did some new stuff like bring in Momir, the Bulgarian guy, NMU, etc. Now that stuff is gone or on the fritz and some new ideas and actions need to happen. Its not ok to just state the many reasons and be ok with them. The fact there is a final X with no Greco disenfranchises it for sure. One other thing I think no one talks about now is I think our guys are just not strong enough. Greco lifts, etc. are a skill honed over time, and our guys are strong in a different way. The new rules basically require immediate strong actions to take place. No longer is the American style of hard hand fighting rewarded. Now, you have to get to a strong technical hold and get there fast, or are penalized. Back in the day you could grind, get hit for a passivity, fight the gut wrench off, and keep the score close. That is not the case now. This is America, its not ok to be ok with the state of the program as it stands now. These athletes and coaches deserve more.
  3. No, if putting up 10% that would be to a bail bondsman, who would put up the other 180k. If not, has to put up full 200k and that would be given back when accused shows for court.....or that is how I think it works.
  4. No, that 20k (10%) is the fee that the bail bondman charges. If not, the accused can put up the 200k and would be refunded when he shows up for court.
  5. I know the landscape has changed with RTCs and all, but it sure seems like USAW completely gave up on Greco. Back in the day there was more crossover with athletes at the RTC and such and it was all just “our wrestlers”. The trials were hotly contested and everyone was interested regardless of style. Now, Greco is like an alien in the USA. Around 2012 we had a lot of exciting up and comers, and we crapped the bed in the Olympics and it seems like it’s been downhill ever since. Yes there have been a few positives in there but mostly not meeting potential. You can’t tell me that a generational talent like K. Bey shouldn’t be winning medals regularly. What access to training with top foreign athletes is he getting? Mad respect to the athletes that are carrying the torch, but it seems they are being handed a knife headed into a gun fight. They deserve better.
  6. As host country, do all weight classes auto qualify?
  7. I get it. Another guy that seems like he had questionable logistics in Wrestling and MMA was Henry Cejudo. He reached the pinnacle in two different sports but there were gaps in there where it seems like he could have done a lot more. Henry could have been a killing machine from 2008-2012 in Wrestling but kind of disappeared until the trials in 2012. Then in MMA he had an abrupt early retirement when he was in my opinion the best fighter in the world and left a lot on the table. That being said I think there is an incredible amount of stress on these athletes that we should be sympathetic towards and the bottom line is they have reached the pinnacle, Henry doing it in 2 sports is insane. Hopefully Gable can do the same now.
  8. You people are a bunch of weirdos about your opinions on this guy. Things like "how he's treating this sport"...like he desecrated a church or something. He has the right to come in as sharp and in shape as he sees fit or as an unprepared slob, who gives a shit. He's participating in a sport at the level and amount he sees fit. And will still be 99.999 percent better of all of us bums on here. Has he made some questionable logistical decisions, maybe. But, who knows what this kid went through from the age of 5 to 22 as a wrestler. Most people are fried by the sport after college. That's a lot of miles, practices, change of locations. Besides a world title he's won everything. If he enjoys going it or can put some change in his pocket doing more power to him. He owes wrestling nothing.
  9. I gotta think that there is lots of money at PSU. If fully funded they can offer 30 full scholarships. I think lots of people forget there is a lot to be said to get a degree from a good school, 100% paid for and leave with no debt and possible some change in the pocket.. That being said could probably get good money now to leave, but gotta look at the overall picture.
  10. He looked great until he hurt his arm. Fast, crisp. Tough crowd.
  11. Now it looks like it could happen at some point. Super fun fight. Gable major wrestling advantage but Hokit can land right on the button. And bet Gable will be able to punch too.
  12. I think its comical that anyone thinks the University of Iowa is going to spend $2.5 million just to make a wrestling coach go away on top of the million plus yearly it will take to lure a new candidate.
  13. Still want to see this......
  14. The only earth moving and difference making hire for Iowa would be Jordan Burroughs. Anyone else is a notch below the Brands brothers, regardless of how good of coaches they are. He would move the needle and then it would be up to him.
  15. 10-0 under 2 minutes would be a match?
  16. Dake/Burroughs A Brands Brother/Schwab/ Kolat RR Desanto/Zane Richards Taylor/Sanderson Taylor/Cox Jones/Cormier Poeta/B. Snyder K. Snyder/Gable Dake/Sidakov Chamizo/Haines Ono/J. 17. Yeah but they could take away their right to train at any of their funded facilities which basically ends their careers. I gotta think crossing Mr. Mamiashvili is a big no no.
  18. Coaching Wrestling Successfully by Dan Gable is old but has a lot of great info about running a program beyond just tactical things.
  19. High Mileage Kyle Snyder just won the freaking World Championship. What the hell are we talking about here with the OP title?
  20. Aren't we trying to be a real pro sport? You coach your athletes. Period. Just like big boy sports (i.e Dodgers/Ohtani/Domincans/etc.)
  21. Cringe level comments by AD. Embarrasing. Then the HWC guy doubles down. One of these days we will be a big boy professional sport.
  22. Yes
  23. In MMA, who wins between these former college standouts? Would be a great scrap.
  24. This guy is a Silver Medalist in the God damn Olympic Games. An absolute stud. Why is he talked about like he’s a sad story and held to such an unreasonable standard? So many things have to go right to win all the time.
