Has anyone asked the athletes how they feel about being held back? I only remember RBY briefly talking about playing video games his extra year in his Flo doc. I couldn’t imagine doing a single extra homework assignment, let alone a year. I didn’t start wrestling until HS so it was mostly fun/school spirit for me; I could imagine for blue-chippers, school and sport are more of an occupation. I’d love to hear more from them about what those extra years feel like. Do other students care? Are they taking different classes? How do they perceive the timeline of adolescent life in comparison to us normal folks?

Kasak wasn’t (and won’t be?) a starter. This is a different style. What are we talking about?

I think Coach Ayre’s post was inspiring and well written, but this made me laugh. The idea that Stanford, perennial Director‘s Cup winners, are the little guys because some barely-R1 State Schools are dominating a single niche Olympic sport is funny, even if it’s situationally true. I don’t think Stanford can win NCAA’s even with extra support, and I don’t think they need to. But everything in Silicon Valley needs an 8+ figure evaluation to be taken seriously.

They’re doing interviews in 4K in the window front of The Family Clothesline, my friend. NIL funds ain’t no worry. PSU doesn’t need to spend a competition date for that. Make the NDI more compelling than a BJC dual against literally any team in the country and it becomes an interesting discussion.

Burroughs feels like the obvious choice. Would be a Cael/DT level hire.

What does the $250K prize get a top program nowadays? Halfway to the blood round? Maybe a major or two at a conference tournament?

I always thought the Classic lost its shine because of production, not because it became an exhibition. The matches were still top-notch until maybe 2017. I do agree that duals are much more fun. I’ve never been to a postseason tournament, but I clear my weekend to go to duals. I think this means we have to consider that duals are going to be for fun, not for championships. I’d rather see efforts meet the times. OSU didn’t have a historic season, but I’d say they had the best one in the country. That has contemporary importance and shouldn’t need to be “official” for us to treat it like the marquee showcase.

It looks like Iowa is taking the place that Okie State held the past ~decade: a historic program that can always serve as a gatekeeper to the top tier, even on a down year.

The 2025 National Duals Champs didn’t bring home a team trophy at the NCAA Championship. I appreciate the duals - I think teams like Stanford and NC State will really benefit from it - but it feels like they should sit in the same place as the All-Star Classic, rather than being pushed as an official title event. Does Paycom still pay out $1M+ if it’s just a cool thing, not “the” thing?

The trade-off for getting to mention his club was having to stand next to a man twice his height on the broadcast. I’d take it too tbh. Anything for South Jersey!

I think Penn’s CJ Composto beats Vega to make it into the finals. I also think Okie State looks a lot better than Big 12’s and keeps the team race tight through the finals. That feels like an upset

Still hoping for this at NCAA’s. I was disappointed on Sunday. I know the B1G is all in the Midwest, but imo, there was too much country music. Really shows a detraction of our culture. Can I be ready to go to war with a banjo playing in the distance?

I think it’s to wrestling’s benefit that Penn State allowed an actual human being into their starting lineup.

The real answer here is to fund more NCWA programs.
