Ferrari already wrestled Starocci. He took him to the wire and lost by a questionable stall call. Starocci's not on a higher tier.

We did not watch the same match, I guess.   Starocci was never threatened once.    Starocci is getting Techs against B1G competition and NCAA qualifiers.    Ferrari can't tech the SDSU backup.     Its a different level.

100% agree re Ferrari and the tiers but there is a basis for worry in that probably the third or fourth best PFP guy is in his weight class, and there will be a ton of pressure on the favorite going for 5.  If not for Keck it would be worry free.

That I agree with. And the general idea that it could happen to anyone. Even those on their own tier, like Spencer Lee and Dan Gable. There is no such thing as 100%.

Lol. Ferrari wrestled Carter like Hidlay wrestled AB. Just trying to keep it close. Not wrestling to win

Watching the match i did not have that impression.  He was not wrestling for a major or tech but was wrestling to win, else why did he step on the mat, and it was close.  You could say exactly the same for Starocci.

Ferrari took twice as many shots as Carter. Was in on his legs multiple times.

Only 94% bonus this season. What a scrub.

The topic is the Ferrari match. The match was 2-1; there was no bonus. One fewer stall call and it's tied. That's not dominant.

Your exact words: "Star's just not the dominant wrestler we want him to be this season."

94% bonus and what you stated makes zero sense.

I'm not sure if you're being intentionally dishonest here but the score was 3-1.

Sorry to burst the Starocci bubble guys, but there's no world in which a 1 pt. win and zero takedowns is dominant.

that win isn't but the aggregate is insanely dominant. You might as well watch someone clear his collar and say "Look he just got owned. Thats not dominant."

"Half measures are a coward's form of insanity."

These guys are only human.  Finishing off history is really hard.

We've seen it with Dan Gable and Spencer Lee.  Mahomes looked like he was drunk going for his three peat in the Super Bowl.

In tennis a few years back Djokovic played the worst match of his career when a win would have meant the Grand Slam.  Serena Williams same thing, lost to a nobody.

I think because he's so careful Starocci is better situated than most for this, but that pressure will be a wild card.

We heard Brands say they were load managing Arnold.  This may be a match he sits him.

Also, there's something to going in to the post season with a high level of confidence. If Arnold loses here (which he would) I can imagine his confidence heading in to Big Tens will be at an all time low with losing to McEnelly and Plott back to back.

Ruth was 7th at 174 last year. He should have stayed down there apparently because he’s 10-6 on the year

Braunagel beat out Ruth and Scoles for 174

i am an idiot on the internet

Whatever - a TD wins it. How often do we see a multi-time national champ within a TD of losing to a true frosh?

I agree ... that 1 pt doesn't matter

It's a good indication that Ferrari is very good and a real potential future champ, I don't think any of us aren't impressed.  Some of us just don't think it says much about him being a threat to beat Starocci, who has a track record of wrestling carefully and tactically at times based on his read of the big picture.  Enjoyable to watch?  No.  But that's what Mesenbrink is for.

I've seen a lot of people step on the mat with 0% expectation they'd win a match.

probably because Edmond Ruth went to NCAA's last year as a Big Ten Champ with a 22-2 record and a win over Rocco Welsh who made NCAA finals and Danny Braunagel is currently 8-8 with a 14-1 loss to Brevin Casella.

I agree but that was not the case in this match they were both trying 100% in their own positioning style. I think they have the proceed with caution attacking style. only Carter could physically keep progressing forward. Carter could have pressed for the TD at the end but was so cautious that it could lead to a fluke scramble.
