Two points on coaches. it seems that the Michigan fan base has forgotten that they added Bolyard to their staff several years ago. He has HC experience, can he slot into the Associate HC position? I believe Citadel is still searching for a HC to fill the open slot. What about Grant Leeth, he seemed to bring in a high energy effort trying to get Tarleton State wrestling kicked off.

MSU- after what happened at Oregon State between Simmons and a recruit I don’t see any school giving him a HC job.

With both Michigan and VT having solid roster rebuilds through recruiting and add ons. Which staff will be under the most pressure to climb up the podium?

Coming out of HS he was a state champ, Fargo AA, Super 32 AA. Has the potential.

Thomas was one of three trying to secure the spot at 184 for MSU. He could not take control and did not wrestle in Big Ten tourney. He could not beat their 197 , who is coming back and his back up. When he hit the portal he did not garner a lot of interest from CMU or other MAC schools. Hoping this change in scenery helps him.

This would be a perfect position for TnT to bring in a non Iowa tied coach.

I wonder what class his academic transcripts place him in. Understanding he has been following the golden pot, but I have seen no comments on his academics. This could be why he did not garner much attention from bigger D1 schools this go around. he was at following schools. Iowa Wisconsin Wartburg Iowa Lakes That could lead to admission issues.

I don’t want to say other states have passed them by, but caught up to them at the HS level. This opens the pool of participants from other states to recruit. That along with the new age digital networks have given exposure to Colleges and Universities outside of Iowa and are drawing HS wrestlers out of the state.

Geographically, I hope it does not lead to travel cost hardships for NIU. That’s a huge mileage difference then the MAC.

Caliendo was thinking I hope I never see this guy sitting in the lobby at a job I am interviewing for. This is just a bad look for him and his time at Iowa. Has being in the Iowa room and the negative vibes TnT give out to other coaches, wrestlers and refs change a man’s attitude.

Baker NIU beats Betancourt 9-1

I just looked up Betancourt on Riders website. It looks like he was a pretty sought after recruit coming out of HS. Wrestling at both Ohio State and PSU. Going 15-6 at OSU as a true Freshman. Then a year at PSU before ending up at Rider in 2023 wrestled up a weight at 141 in 2024-25 season going 8–10. He was also a Silver Medalist at the Pan American Championships held in Oaxtepec,Mexico. This could be considered an upset for Baker is you just compare Bios and not the seeding numbers.

I agree with all said on this. Living in Iowa at the time of this incident I can tell you it was all over the news. In my opinion there were several failures by the adults involved. The coaches allowed him to wrestle the weekend tournament the week it was reported. Several teams backed out of the tourney heightening the news coverage. The School System handed down minimal punishment allowing him to continue with in class schooling at same school as victim. This led to two members of the School Board resigning in protest of the lack of punishment. DA office reduced charges down to a hazing, no detail explanation never giving as why the did after what the detective already filed as assault. His parents with help of either higher ups in DA or School System got the charges reduced from charging as an adult to charging as a juvenile. His dad was way out of hand publicly about the incident and how unfair his son was being treated. Threaten several lawsuits against the County and School Board. Victims parents probably fed up and lack of support ask that the charges be dropped. At the time it was stated Blume was being recruited by SDSU, North Dakota State, ISU and others. All of those offers or recruitment came to end after incident was made public.

Let’s just hope this young man has learned from his actions and moved forward a better person after paying for his actions. With that said , we should all hope the victim has recovered and is coping with what happen to him. I am sure they’re are constant reminders of the incident in his life. Mature adults on a wrestling forum should be the last to bring these memories back to light. Bringing Blumes age is one thing but to reference the pencil incident is wrong.

Is this the first tournament in which the tournament officials finally hold TnT accountable for their mat side actions. Enforcing verbal abuse , coming onto the mat, walking where ever they want and acting like fools. Damn they penalize wrestlers for tossing their headgear to their% corner.

Does anyone have the data of past NCAA Qualifiers who are now Seniors that did not qualify this their final year.

As stated Pariano was able to build some solid consistent programs with the Admin. Several of the Ivy’s have been consistent for a while like Stanford and Princeton. Recently Columbia and Davidson have been building solid programs with coaching changes. So it can be done, just to what extend due to the academic standards. Army and Navy have also been solid and we all know those student athletes are pushed daily. My thought even if the Administration did have a turnover they could have just shifted their focus away from some sports. I for one was utterly surprised how small their new football stadium was. Not saying it is not nice but it does not house large seating availability. I would guess most MAC schools football stadiums seat more. It may be that many coaches would struggle there.
