He looked like he thought real hard about it...

... and did not take them off.

styles are so often mentioned and they generally dont seem to matter with the very best but talk about three guys wrestling with 3 very very different results. I truly think Ghasempour beats sadulaev more times if they wrestle 10 times I dont think Dt ever beats Sadulaev and Dt wins the vast majority against Ghasempour.

A great champion like David Taylor deserved to go out with a good win like this.  Congratulations to him

What was up with Ghasempour not shaking Taylor’s hand? Did he do something to upset him or was he just being a sore loser? Anti-American sentiment?

He wasn’t happy with Taylor’s celebration before time was out.

Going up to 145 too, I think.

This was my point btw.  The weight gain.  With day before.

I don't think so regarding 145.  He fought at 135 early in his MMA career before cutting down to 125 where he fought for most of his career.  He had a surprise win over Demetrius Johnson to win the title at 125.  Then TJ Dillshaw cut down to fight him at 125 and rumors were that Dana White wanted to get rid of 125lbs because it's not a money maker and that Dillshaw was expected to win the belt and then go back up and continue fighting at 135 at which time the UFC would eliminate 125.  It was the opposite that happened.  Cejudo beat Dillshaw at 125lbs then he moved up and won the title at 135 I don't think he has fought above 135lbs. This is all a little unrelated to the original discussion which was perhaps off topic to begin with.

I think there could a first weight effect going on at 125.  One reason there are elder statesmen at for example 74kg is because wrestlers like Frank Chamizo and Chetag Tsabolov who have had success and won world titles at lower weights have moved up later in their career.  So now at 32 they are still wrestling.  At 57kg guys size-out as they age so they move up but there is no feeder weight below it which could depress the average age.  Guys who are too small for 57kg don't have anywhere to wrestle and retire/stop competing.

I don't know if there is an age difference between 57kg and the other weights that it is due to accumulated wear and tear/loss of speed and athleticism any more than at heavier weights or that there is no weight class below it.  It would be interesting to look and see if there was a significant change in the average age of competitors at 57kg/55kg back when there were lower weights like 52kg and 48kg compared with now that it's the lowest weight.

Wondering how DT would have done if he beat Ghas first and then wrestled Sad. DT was much more conservative at the beginning of bronze match.  I think that would have helped in the Sad match. Maybe too offensive against Sad early? Once you are forced to attacked Sad you are leaving yourself open to his patented chest lock and go behind.

Got to the PC late... Vito ahead 4-1 but is in extreme pain, fingers? Hand?

D3

As far as I can tell (thinking about it hours later), Vito dislocated his finger on the second TD going up 4-1.  Normally he has two fingers taped, but this time he had three taped together.  Really hurt.  UWW med staff came out, Vito instructed them to remove the tape (to un-dislocate the finger), but the woman with the HUGE scissors apparently started cutting his finger by accident, because Vito freaked out and grabbed the scissors from her while attempting to take off the tape himself.  Med staff was not happy (finger wag not happy).  Vito yelled about them cutting him with the scissors.  US med rep/coach came out, and they proceeded to pull off the tape.  Camera panned out, Vito sat there while the coach...pulled his finger back into place.  Immediate pain, but it sorta went away "quickly".  Hastily wrapped the fingers again, Vito composed himself, and went out there and finished business.  Tough dude.

I've been thinking about this since trials - what do we think of Vito's defense. He is so so good offensively. And he keeps people away from his legs with his distance and movement. His tie ups are in and out. He doesn't really hang on. Do we see him defending shots very often?
