The qualification process for the Olympics was different at that time and there were 8 weight classes.

So, I'm with you on watching Greco. I remember throwing a guy to his back with a head and arm to get into the 3rd place match at Jr. Nationals (Uni-Dome days). He was flat on his back for 10 seconds and then they stood us back up citing leg foul. I went on to lose the match. I watched it back 10 years later and with the way the rules had changed it would not have been called a foul. A lot more leg bumping allowed. For whatever reason, I'm with you.

Do you realize there are probably close to 50,000 different denominations of Christianity? When someone asks me my religion I do not say Christian. I say Lutheran. I sometimes make sure they know I am ELCA specifically (and then I explain what that means if they ask).

I know all about the sleepless nights with cotton mouth and a stomach that feels like it's caving in on itself. An whether or not it was God who helped me make it through the night without running to the bathroom sink and sucking down two pounds of water, I don't see what makes it necessary to tell everyone God gave me the strength. I agree. I think the life of a top 100 tennis player is an extremely difficult life. For a male tennis player to win one of the top prizes (a grand slam) they must win seven matches in two weeks, each lasting an average of 3 hours each. That is 21 hours of playing time per tournament. The top tennis players compete an average of 22 weeks per year. And after a win. It is more about thanking or congratulating those around you. "Thank you to my team who help me get to where I am today."

My question is, why do they feel compelled they need to profess their faith to the world in an interview or on social media? I watch a lot of professional tennis and the first thing pro tennis players do is complement their opponent or thank their own team (their coaches, trainers ect). The God profession in wrestling seems to be a trend. The thanking of opponent or team in pro tennis also is a trend or maybe a better term a blueprint for a way to carry out that sports interview. That is just the way it is done. So, if it is a common blueprint, is it a real connection to their religious faith or is it just the way others do it so I will join the pack. "He's really good and says it's because of God, so I'm going to do it to." Just as when I was young, I read an article that Dan Gable ran a mile before the tournaments he competed in so I decided to do the same thing (but that was in private and it didn't last long for me).

There's the rub. Righteous... using it to join the Jesus club or draw attention to yourself, or seem like what you are doing is above reproach, Or build to your brand. Different story. If someone says "good job on the victory" as they interview you on live TV and the first thing out of your mouth is "All glory to God," instead of being humble and saying "thank you" first, I question the "God response." Not that I fault someone for giving glory to God, it is they way it is done, the place and time. Many times the way it is done feels like an "I am better than you because..." statement.

My original 80s red Ultra Flex, but love my combat speeds too.

Hmmm... may want to read Matthew 6:5 where it warns against making a show of public prayer. The constant wearing of Jesus shirts, promoting Jesus during interviews, after matches and on podcasts (not just Bassett but the trend of the last number of years for many wrestlers). Trying to look overly pious lends me to believe otherwise, now this may not be the case for everyone, but knowing the actions of many who overtly talk about religion to promote their purity in front of the camera is not a good look. And this is coming from a lifelong Lutheran.

That is a true statement. Cutting weight is the bane of a wrestler's life. Especially when cutting the amount JO has historically cut. The recent trend to grow into a weight is the best thing that has happened to the sport in my lifetime.

Ray Lewis in negotiations to compete for RAF
wrestlingshoe replied to RAFWiki's topic in International Wrestling
Reminds me of celebrity boxing matches. Is it going to bring eyes to the event? Maybe. Is it going to bring eyes to Free, Greco, Folk? *soft shrug, with a bit of an eye roll. Maybe a few high school football players wrestle because of Ray Lewis. Oh wait, up coming high school football players probably don't even know who he is? And while you might scoff at that comment, I have been a teacher and coach at the high school level for over 30 years. -
Ray Lewis in negotiations to compete for RAF
wrestlingshoe replied to RAFWiki's topic in International Wrestling
Hmmm. Trying to picture it. I am 55. I have more wrestling accolades than Ray Lewis. Now I didn't play professional football, but I am in good shape and was active in wrestling through my early 40s to some extent. But I would not entertain the slightest notion that I could step onto the mat and not look like something less than a high school JV wrestler. To me it makes it more a circus attraction and takes away from any legitimacy that RAF is trying to build. It brings it closer to WWE (obviously not rigged, but maybe). -
You can find a doctor to clear almost anything.

"What if" is actually a part of logic. I'm hoping you were being sarcastic. If not...

Ha Ha... You made me laugh.

Gemeni does a pretty decent job of summarizing the new push out rules.

Fox host lets Kennedy Blades suplex her - LOL
wrestlingshoe replied to BarSeries's topic in International Wrestling
For those who care, and many don't, to show you know Freestyle or Greco, it is called a suplay. Suplex is the term used in professional wrestling. -
I still remember the look on the guys face that I beat for the state title decades ago. We were both seniors and had been working for that title our entire lives. His expression was identical to Caliendo. I would have never tried to shake his hand (and didn't) and I would not fault him if he snubbed me if I tried.

Youtube TV on my phone is working perfectly.

Point is, if Sad is there, Dake has a better shot at gold.
-
If I had a $100 to put on either Dake or Snyder for 2026 world gold, after watching Sad, it's a no brainer for me. Sad is just too much and I could see Dake with a path to the top. I don't see anything opening for Snyder unless Sad has Visa issues again. And even then Snyder is not the betting favorite.
-
I'm not sure what the Dake detractors are seeing. I think the only real mistake was the challenge. He was doing well in the second period. Still 51 seconds left. And the long rest killed it. Who knows what it will be like next time if Dake can eliminate that lost takedown in the first period. Now he has the feel. Yes he is older. But I came away thinking he can switch the outcome next time.

Well, we know he jump from ISU to PU for a better pipeline to the top wrestlers. There are a lot of factors that play into a championship team and high level coaching is just one of many.
-
I thought much the same. It was in his facial expression, or lack there of.
-
I think he puts too much pressure on himself. He looked lackluster. His silver medal last year was a huge disappointment to him and nothing but gold would suffice this year. And the way the Brands look at winning, I'm sure it makes it even more difficult.
