uncle bernard Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 I cannot in good faith support a speaker from a family that doesn't encourage offseason freestyle wrestling for its athletes. 1 1

After all he is a legislator who refuses to legislate. That makes him just a politician. Politicians are all about controlling the narrative. Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge
mspart Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Jordan is now backing McHenry as permanent temporary speaker. mspart

What I have read is that when Jordan proposed temporarily expanding until some date (opinions differ), the role of the Speaker pro tempore's powers, to allow for re-opening the House and introducing legislation that he did not have the support for that either from fellow Republicans. As a result he will call his opponents to discuss how to move forward (such a non-statement). It sounds like they would need Democratic support for any proposal as there is nowhere near enough Republican support. And the idea of crossing the aisle is the third rail of the Freedom Caucus. Wrestleknownothing Posted October 19, 2023 Author Posted October 19, 2023 Jordan now says three's a charm. "He will seek a third floor vote ... after Trump loyalists abandoned efforts to buy more time for his struggling campaign." Per Bloomberg. Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge
mspart Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 I haven't heard that! Very interesting. mspart
WrestlingRasta Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Rep Ken Buck said the number of no votes on the next rd for Jordan could be in the 30-40 range.
mspart Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Well, the numbers are getting bigger. That probably a good thing for a fair amount of posters on this board. I honestly don't care if it is Jordan or anyone else on the R side. Just saying. mspart
Offthemat Posted October 19, 2023 Posted October 19, 2023 Funny. Berquam just said the dims circle the wagons; the republicans circle the firing squads.

Wrestleknownothing Posted October 20, 2023 Author Posted October 20, 2023 (edited) Looks like 433 present (though still finishing up call to quorum aka roll call). So 217 is the number today.
