I have an out of the box idea:

Free WTT takes place, non-oly weights after

Then

Greco WTT

New rule: 2027 Greco WTT winners get a bye to FS OTT semis.

Let's see if freco>greco

Iran always had greco wrestlers we had medalled a couple times in the 80s and 90s but nothing to the extent that is present now. Iran brought some Russian coaches in and developed a whole system up from the top down which is why our greco is much more diverse in terms of talent development. Although it is largely centred in the southern provinces (Khuzestan and Fars) there are guys from Mazandaran and Tehran who make teams every now and then. It also helps when most of the top greco nations (Cuba, Russia etc) have fallen off a cliff in terms of talent development. It would honestly be quite tough selling greco to the US purely because it isn't really transferable to college wrestling. That is the major reason as to why you guys can't develop/retain greco talent. If NCAA had greco you guys would be as good as you guys are in freestyle.

Russia being down and Cuba running out of money for sure helps. I've been wondering if eventually Russian Greco will slowly morph into the Dagestan+Ossetia  B/C team. I hope not, but signs do point that way. Russia placed 3rd with just one champion. They had no champions at senior worlds last year (well unless you count Komarov).

I think China is trying to make a serious push into greco. It's smart. Of all olympic medals to be won in grapplings, I'd say greco has the most opportunity for an ambitious nation to dominate. You don't have to deal with wrestling obsessed American and Dagestan rivals. I think Lopez and that cuban coach were over there recently. image.thumb.png.699dd03669b6204c72e34d820c1e3fa5.png

Russia's top journalist made a video clowning on today's small crowd:

On the bright side, seeing ample videos of the foreign wrestlers having fun on the Vegas strip is cool

Would attendance be any better at St. Petersburg or Moscow? Without busing school kids in or making wresting athletes and coaches sit in the stands, of course. European tournaments are glass houses in that regard. I think US college fan turnout blows everyone in the world out of the water besides maybe Iran. image.thumb.png.62587dbf1f28a920c2dd28dc14f30abb.png

just watched all but one of his matches then just had to to not...

my thoughts are that the kid is ridiculously positionally strong on the feet and clearly has a very high wrestling IQ, but, nothing else i saw impressed me...

every arm spin he scored on i was a bit surprised... and he used it as much as a defensive strategy as offensive... every time he did not like his position on the feet immediate arm spin for a slip before it could be seen as bailing...

again, super high wrestling IQ...

par terre was not special either offensively or defensively...

but, clearly kid is so smart and understands what is happening in the match at all times and acts appropriately...

i am very much interested to hear why you enjoyed watching him so much...

Keep in mind I'm "watching" but it's running on the side monitor while I'm working so not totally dialed in on it; I thought he was very active - every time a flurry of movement caught my eye and I looked over it was him initiating but it makes sense if he was using it as a defensive strategy.

But ya, in general - he took bronze and seemed more "aggressive" in attempting action but that could have just been happenstance as I was doing the 9-5 - was just curious and figured I would ask an actual Greco question to ya - appreciate the response

Wagin should have definitely gotten surgery or whatever he needed to do for this knee rather than continuing with the season he cant even drop to it to shoot.
