Batres denied chance to compete at U23 championships due to eligibility ruling

Batres, who is a senior at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, was set to take the mat to represent Guatemala. But she was ruled ineligible because there wasn’t another Guatemalan girl in the U23 tournament.

“I put in the work, was on weight and was at the scale this morning ready to represent Guatemala,” Batres wrote in an Instagram post. “Unfortunately, I won’t be competing at the U23 world championships due to an eligibility ruling.”

Since Batres is an American and is representing Guatemala, she is considered a transfer or naturalized wrestler by United World Wrestling (UWW), the international governing body for freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling.

UWW rules state that in 2026 a naturalized wrestler can compete provided that the country enter the same number of national wrestlers per style, per age category and per event.

Another Guatemalan woman scheduled to compete but her visa to enter the United States was not approved, according to Jack Conroy, head coach at South Side Wrestling Club and Greens Farms, who accompanied Batres to Las Vegas.

Zane Richards made the national team despite not wrestling much Greco for 10+ years.  Also, interesting that now your bar seems to making the team (maybe even the world team not just the national team?) when before you were whining about me defining “top wrestler” as making the national team…

you just are not bright enough to keep up with anything and just continue to only see what you want to see...

this does not make you unique...

whatever...

it makes no difference...

Imagine the levels of cope going through LJB's head right now

He's convinced himself that his sons are superior to Jax Forrest because Jax once snubbed them in a practice room

This comes less than 24 hours after both sons got knocked out of a major tournament in front of a crowd of three dozen people

I repeat: no one will ever pay to watch LJB's sons wrestle Greco

what are you trying to accomplish?

waht is your end goal here?

I can't say how anyone looked versus prior results. I just look at it as a whole. I can't remember how many guys went 0-1 last year, but I do know we got a few medals and a fifth. I can't gauge the level of their opponents because I don't recognize names like I do in freestyle.

I saw your son hurt his ribs. Is he ok?

Stupid mistakes? Hard to say. Can you tell me? Many of them lost their second match by a large margin, I saw maybe half of them.

max is fine...

it looked and obviously felt way worse than i think it ultimately was, but, if he had been pulled back in he would got shot up and wrestled, so, by that measure he is fine...

if otto had not tried a risky a gut and literally done anything against else including absolutely nothing he would have beat Hoveyan again and would have had a good chance to medal...

Altomer and Crosby looked the absolute best i have ever seen them before... Drury did not wrestle his best match... Back out performed... Attao looked good until it got away from him...

everyone won matches except the D1 guy who was a late replacement...

there were obvious positives, but, clearly some bitter disappointments...

which is high level competition in a nutshell...

He's also claimed that Gilman wouldn't go with his boy.  The same fantasy repeated over and over with different characters.  Sad.

it 100% happened whether some anonymous forum nerd chooses to believe it or not...

the nerd who says i am claiming anything about Jax is just a miserable person who got his feelings hurt so is now always looking to say things he thinks are really mean and edgy to make himself somehow feel better...

Otto and Jax are friends...

most leg grabbers 100% refuse to even play practice greco because they know what is going to happen...

whatever...

you nerds keep barking at each other in your echo chambers and i will get ready to watch seniors in a much more comfortable environment than these past few days...

Yeah, and like I have asked before, why the drop off, how come we don’t have any more Joe Warren’s or Matt Lindland’s anymore. I think our last multi medalist is Andy Bisek.

Bisek jumped on my radar when he beat National Team member Kenny Cook at The Open back in 04/05ish.

Regarding Joe Warren, in that vid cap a page or so back, he looks like he's crying. Having been on the mat with him, he's definitely no cry-baby - he may not actually be the "Baddest Man on the Planet" but he is one tough SOB and a great person to lead US Greco (JW was coachable, which has carried over to hm being an excellent coach).

I didn’t know both your kids were on the Greco team LJB that’s pretty sick

they have made 12 world teams in total form U17 to Seniors...

only 2 teams together...

Max was on the senior team last year when otto took second at 19 years old... then they switched places this year after max had a horrible open and did not make the senior team this year and otto cruised... both on their way to Khazakstan right now for senior worlds...

It sucks that we can’t chat Greco without a couple edgy dudes having a pissing match every single time. You know who you are

Just message each other your insults and chat wrestling here  it’s not that hard. Nobody wants to see this

I’m legit interested in discussing and watching and learning more about the sport since last Olympics and this tourney but you guys are insufferable

Crazy that Greece is at the very bottom and Rome is even worse!

My coach used to say how great Polish technique was.  They did terrible.

Sweden looks washed.

No Cuba.

Crazy compared to decades past.

@LJB the Norwegian that took bronze at 87kg who beat Altomer; Ljosaak - to the untrained eye (mine) he caught my attention and I enjoyed watching him.  To the more trained Greco eye (yours) does he have legit chops/potential?

i have not gone back and rewatched any of the matches...

travel was nothing but delay after delay both ways and i did not get all snuggled in my own pad until after 1 AM last night...

today is catching up on work stuff and other silliness...

i remember watching the match altomer lost, but, have no recollection of it at all...

i will say, any greco guy that can win a medal at U20 or U23 can win a senior medal, so, if the kid is bringing home bronze chances are he is pretty good...

anyway... i will make every effort to rewatch later this evening...
