It went way too long. She still gave up and turned down with less than 3 seconds.

Yeah that was disappointing.  If she'd have held on, the challenge may have had some merit.  Tough end for her.  Hopefully the Japanese woman makes it to the finals to bring her back.

Do you have any clue who he is?

legitimate question…

Yes…I didn’t mention Warren specifically in comments prior to the tournament but I do read some.

Unfortunately, I only know him from bellator.  I truly didn't know he was a Greco guy.  He had good positioning from my memory, so I guess that makes sense.

I watched as many of the Greco matches as I could with work.  It's still not my favorite to watch, but I do very much appreciate the positioning and upper body strength to do the things they do.  I saw someone else say previously that par terre is way more interesting in Greco...it definitely seemed to make sense there.  Anyway, I'll always root for the US.  I saw disappointing results, but a lot of big effort.  Won't disparage my home team.  Glad they went out and represented and hope they come back ready to go hard in a few weeks.

You do know his name is the title of the video do you not?   The leg grabber guy from Michigan

Posted

There was significant progress from many of our guys in how they actually wrestled regardless of final results that is the extent that most “fans” actually pay attention to…

every wrestler won matches except the last minute D1 sub…

that is legitimate progress as a whole…

Actually I do not…

did not pay attention to the title just the nerds who did were commenting on something they know nothing about…

Joe is a friend… hung out with him both nights I was in Vegas… calling him the “leg grabber guy from Michigan” is actually a better look from you than usual…

GOOD BOY!!!

It’s the title of the video you literally commented on boss.  I know your hulk smash guy but I figured you could read those

You quoted the video asking who knows who he is and his name is literally the title of the video.   Read hulk

In 2007, Joe Warren missed the Pan American Games at Rio de Janeiro because of positive test for cannabis. In 2008, Warren got a two years ban from international wrestling competition and missed the 2008 Summer Olympics.

So this is the rocket scientist who's going to lead the Greco team to Olympic gold in 2028, eh?

You're concerned that a relatively young adult smoked weed and isn't capable of training and leading people?  I mean I have led teams of 250 scientists across the globe and good god I did way worse things in my 20s.

Meanwhile... besides all this forum "excitement" of late.

Welker won by TF, and she'll be going for her 3rd U23 title tomorrow.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

First go around w/ the U23 ladies... Welker going for the gold while Turner and Leydecker go for bronze tomorrow.

The wrestler from Japan @ 68Kg, who won 7-5 over Mir, lost her SF bout.

So, no repechage chance for the American.

I can appreciate this sentiment, but we were senior world team champs only about 20 years ago.  That is a huge dropoff.

Yeah, and like I have asked before, why the drop off, how come we don’t have any more Joe Warren’s or Matt Lindland’s anymore. I think our last multi medalist is Andy Bisek.

Lack of talent; lack of training opportunities; lack of leadership.

Maybe the leadership is good now?  I really do not know, but it has certainly suffered in recent years.

A lot of drama in the 55Kg GR final, as the Georgian nabbed a step out point as time just ticked to zero... 12-12 criteria to Georgian.

India w/ a yolo challenge, and lost... final score 13-12.

The US doesn't exist in a vacuum. That golden era followed the collapse of the eastern bloc. Bulgaria (especially), Romania, Poland, etc never recovered to what they were before. This coincided with the weakening of the nordic countries. Yes you could argue that the splitting of the soviets into Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine counter balanced the losses of those other programs, but I still think that on the whole it was much easier. Bulgaria was so good, to this day their absence from heavyweight greco can be felt through undersized Riza's sleepwalking to euro titles.

Nowadays, I think the emergence of Iran along with Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan and Japan make things harder than the old era. They are also not following that post soviet model that a 2000s Ukranian would have had of recruit them from the draft. I think they are starting them much younger.

To win a medal now is night and day difference compared to Soviet block era…

even anonymous forum nerds should understand this…

The drop off can be directly correlated to when HS wrestlers quit wrestling Greco and free every summer…

I know nerds have a hard time believing it, but, there was a time when Americans were not scared of Greco as a whole…
