The 2nd win was at Big Tens. Brands sat Lee against Northwestern in the dual, which was weak.

He also beat Gross, RBY, and Vito.

thanks

Until someone who didn't win an NCAA  championship finishes with more world championships than Trent Hidlay, I believe this discussion is closed. The topic should be shifted to "second-best to never win an NCAA championship."

And the answer to that is either Tyler Caldwell or Mike Poeta.

John Peterson won Olympic Gold and Silver.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

He was NAIA and placed 5th there as a senior.

Is it fair to say that "NCAA" wrestling only entered the modern era relatively recently? If the answer *is no then I wholeheartedly agree with you - we all teach his namesake roll!

A fun Trent Hidlay game is, "how would he have fared if Aaron Brooks didn't exist?"

Hidlay lost at NCAAs to Brooks 2x in the finals and 2x in the semifinals.

I'd pick him against Amine and/or Keckeisen at this moment.

Anyone would pick him against retired Amine. Are you saying peak? Because weight classes and brightest of bright lights?

Keck had his number in folk multiple times, and free Keck is rounding out nicely albeit at 86 and can only assume Keck stays down while Hidlay moves up for 2028.

Hot take is that Hidlay is the 3rd best 92 domestically.

Brooks the multiple time cheater, Zahid, Hidlay. Keck is a strong maybe.

Maybe we should treat our upper weights that don't even have a parallel college weight with respect. I will now shut up.

Didn't Amine wrestle Brooks in the final in '22' after Brooks beat Hidlay in the semi?

You're right and I'm in the wrong forum.

Amine took one match, but not when it mattered most. Of course, that was 19 months before Brooks first officially announced drug test.

1st NCAAs 1928. Ben (~2 years younger brother) was a 2x NCAA champ graduating only a year earlier than John.

It might have been named after Ben but he learned from John Lampe (Iowa St teammate)

Ferrari is the person whom I most wish was on this list...

Can't argue with that but ya gotta admit -  fastest national champ in NCAA history.  140 mph true Fr shooting star one time NC!  He's in a category all by himself - in multiple ways.

For Lehigh- Trenge mentioned earlier. His best year to win might have been his freshman year when he had the retinal injury and he had beaten both finalists.

His best year to win it was his Jr year with 11 seconds to go

I ran into Trenge a few years ago....he was a lot smaller than I thought he would be....make of that what you will.

I'll take whatever crack you're smoking because for a wrestler Jonny Boy is a Laestrygonian.  Not a fella I'd want to get into a bar fight with

Let's be real ... you wouldn't want to get in a bar fight with a Girl Scout.  Believe there's a song about it.  🎶

Thomas Gilman has the same amount of World titles (1), plus 2 World silvers, and an Olympic bronze. Does he not count?

And why are Tyler Caldwell and Mike Poeta the answer? Who is on their hitlist that separates them from others? At least at NCAAs Caldwell had the win over Howe and his next most notable win was Colt Sponseller. I consider Caldwell a great 4x AA who could have won an NCAA title or two if not blocked by legends, but those weights were also pretty weak. I mean, Brandon Hatchett made the finals in what was essentially the same field that Caldwell was competing against.

I know you are contractually obligated to say Poeta, but he was a 3x AA and couldn't get it done when the topside of the bracket combusted and he got to face an 8 seeded Jordan Leen in the NCAA finals.

Seabass will always be the first person that comes to mind when I think of this topic. Wins over..

Spencer Lee 2x

Pat Glory

Vito Arujau

Seth Gross

Roman Bravo-Young

I don't know how many wrestlers that never won a national title can say the beat 5 current or future NCAA champions. Are there any?
